Did anyone watch this? The first episode was completely up its own arse but I think I’ll stick with it!

Anybody have any ideas what the Mum is doing keep touching her eyelashes? Does she have that condition where you pull your hair out?

I’ve just watched the first episode and I’m not totally sold on it. I think it’s trying to be Big Little Lies but it’s not quite coming off. I’ll watch the next and see.

Clawdy · 13/07/2018 23:15

Gripping, strange, and atmospheric. Will keep watching....For the moment, anyway.

LostwithSawyer · 13/07/2018 23:17

It's so weird. But the child actor is good. She was great in IT!
I hope it gets bette or tho or will have to turn off.

Rollergirl11 · 13/07/2018 23:43

I thought it was the girl from It!

I was hoping someone would talk about this...I found it strange from the get go..The sound was really muffled I thought and hard to hear..Question: With all that neat vodka why wasn’t she rolling down the street? Yes, the eyelash thing and the weird stepfather...I’m going to watch it again as I feel there’s bits I missed. Odd.

Rollergirl11 · 14/07/2018 09:27

I guess if you’re heavy drinking to that level long term perhaps your body builds up a tolerance to it? Yes any normal person would be obliterated by that amount of alcohol.

It has a very unsettling and malevolent vibe running through it. Her relationship with her mother is deeply fucked. Did you see all the words carved all over her skin when she got in the bath? The words all over her back must have been done by someone else?

I've read the book, and was intrigued to see how this would translate to screen. It's not disappointed me so far.

Kit10 · 14/07/2018 13:09

Ah when and where is it on?! I've read the book.

DartfordBridge · 14/07/2018 13:11

I liked it. Reminded me of the first series of true detective

iheartmichellemallon · 15/07/2018 11:40

Just watching the first episode now - not sure about it yet. For those who have read the book, does it all become clear? Is it worth sticking with?

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 16/07/2018 07:47

Yes it does. There's a massive twist at the end. I like it so far.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 16/07/2018 07:48

Yep mum has trichotillomania.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 16/07/2018 07:55

A few twists not just one.

EachandEveryone · 16/07/2018 19:22

Does it need eight episodes?

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 16/07/2018 20:42

I've just watched episode 2 on demand

Can anyone tell me what Amma said to Camille at the end, couldn't work it out

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 19/07/2018 17:41

@MrStark she said "I think Camille can be good" to her mum and then "Can't you Camille?"

PsychedelicSheep · 19/07/2018 22:38

DartfordBridge I thought it was reminiscent of S1 of True Detective too.

the teeth pulling thing made me cringe 😣

DP not a fan, think he finds it slow, I don't mind the pacing though

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 19/07/2018 22:54

Thanks

I find it very odd and slow but I'm sticking with it

I've seen Sinister Rich Stepdad play that exact role before but can't remember where

iheartmichellemallon · 21/07/2018 10:00

He was the dad in Revenge & was similar character in that.

ElenaGreco123 · 23/07/2018 22:50

The heat, claustrophobia and general weirdness of it all reminded me of S1 of True Detective, too.

I love Amy Adams and Chris Messina.

TomHardysBackpack · 24/07/2018 10:41

Episode 3 was pretty gruelling. Her mum is awful.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 24/07/2018 11:56

I find its slightly pretentious hard to followness quite annoying but it is intriguing

Yes it was Revenge I was thinking of

TomHardysBackpack · 24/07/2018 12:29

So many weird things like the fact she only has one top and pair of trousers which she also sleeps in

SporkInTheToaster · 24/07/2018 12:32

DH also likened it to True Detective. He likes it.

I find it slow and navel-gazing and a bit ‘meh’, tbh. Sticking with it for the attractive cop eye candy.

PsychedelicSheep · 24/07/2018 20:48

Patrica Clarkson is one of the best narcissistic mothers I've seen. What a monster!
