Nicola Walkers Dads horrible girlfriend (loved the tense little exchange at dinner) is Janet Dibley who was in that sitcom with Nicholas Lyndhurst yonks ago.

I think Elliot Hollis might be the one to watch in this story.

He probably witnessed the murder. I don’t think he’s the killer as they wouldn’t give an unknown actor such a big part in this.

I agree with a P.P that Hayley was killed in a sex party. Sex was a key element in the other two murder stories in the previous series’s.

The confusing thing about Elliot Hollis in all this is his age at the time of the incident.

When James was waxing lyrical to his wife about Elliot he GENUINELY seemed clueless as to were he'd gone wrong.

Elliot is a red herring.

Tim and James versus Chris and Pete is an interesting one.

James phone warning to Tim was bland and yet Tim's answer to Cass/Sunny was so perfect and backed James up so completely that Cass and Sunny debated dropping it as a line of enquiry, and went to the others alone.

James didn't warn Chris or Pete just Tim.
This leads me to thinking they had devised an alibi between them at some point

Pete would've been in Hong Kong, Chris likely sectioned. Pete thought nothing of saying he'd seen her in the house.

Conclusion : Pete is innocent of anything. Chris may have been involved but due to not being compus mentis at the time probably doesn't have coherent details to give the police. Only two guilty men would need to establish a corroborative alibi.

I think Elliot is significant because something is haunting him. Perhaps he was involved in a game at the holiday cottage that went wrong while Hayley was there or was minding him for a short while. An accident happened, she died, it may have been nobody's fault, although El was involved, so the four men decided to dispose of her body to protect El. They knew of just the place and were in a hurry. Pete, being single, was best placed to hare up to London with Hayley's body and could be back before anyone noticed.

I think Els' drug addiction and trans status aren't relevant to the story, they are just where he is now. Very well played by the actor, btw.

Also, when there are identical twins we must think of substitution. Was actual Hayley killed and her twin took over her identity for a reason not yet revealed? Did the twins have some sort of double act where they swapped identities for fun?

The programme website says Sunny's backpack is a sort of in joke with the production team. We never see the contents though it seem important. Sometimes they might put a pineapple or a pair of stilettos in it.

Yes, in a game that went wrong.

Could the credit card in the flashback sequence be where Hayley (or her sister) were trying to steal it at the cottage?

Why on earth would the four suspects codge together an implausible story about watching a film and never leaving the house that night, when it was obvious the bitter wife would tell the police what actually happened? And now they look more suspicious than ever. Bit of a silly storyline.

But Pete and Chris can't have been part of the codging a story up thing because they were so off message. This points to Tim and James as the killers

I thought she looked naked in one of the flashbacks so yes it could be a sex game gone wrong

Summary was as much for me as you guys! To confirm I was keeping track.

Combination of getting older and out the habit of only watching one episode a week means I struggle to keep up with convoluted storylines now - but I still enjoy them.

Delores - I too am shocked at the ageing of the actors! (Cos I'm still a spring chicken - I don't get a shock and see my GRANNY staring at me when I pass a mirror....oh no 😂😂) Pete carrs wife in particular, she was stunning in interview with the vampire - then I hit IMDb - that was bloody 24 years ago!! Tom cruise has clearly made a Faustian pact somewhere along the line! (Although in the interview short running on film 4 Re new mission impossible film he does say how much the fight scenes hurt these days). Sorry off on a tangent there.

Sorry - explain to me how strangling a young girl to death and burying her under a motorway can POSSIBLY suggest 'accident' ? It's actually quite hard to strangle someone to death, it takes time too.

The twin thing - I'm thinking more living twin either knows something she doesn't realise is relevant, witnessed something or crossed the murderer in some way, again something seemingly slight that she doesn't think is connected and twin was killed with murderer thinking they were killing the other.

Yes I think claiming they basically had a "quiet night in" on millennium Eve was stupid! Did anyone who wasn't working or had other responsibilities really not marking it in some way? I was at a friends with now ex for a party. Those of us there inc hosts didn't fancy paying a fortune to be packed in like sardines in a pub/club plus several had DC and there was diddlies chance of getting a sitter that night!

James could have been worried about being interrupted or overheard - wasn't he calling from his work office? Where someone could "pop in" at any time?

The tail end of a telephone conversation between James and Pete was shown, where presumably he did warn (brief?) him. Tim was supposed to speak to Chris but there was nothing to suggest he had done so before Chris was interviewed in his campervan. The telephone conversation between James and Tim seemed extremely staged, both very calm. Presumably this was not just because Tim's wife was in the car - it felt like they were putting into practice something they had agreed a long time ago.

Pete is quite dodgy I think.
He got the 3 grand very quickly (off James presumably) and said to his wife that he is coming into a big pay day soon, or something like that.
He has dropped them all in it and he knows it - perhaps he's going to blackmail them.

I don't think the twins did any kind of swap at all, the sister went to a different New Years party in another village didn't she. Plus the plate from the fractured arm.

The twins swap thing has been done to death. I think this series is better than that.

They are obviously supposed to be sticking to the same story so not sure why Pete has gone off message already, although he does seem to be out of step with the others in other ways too. I think it's possible he could try and blackmail the others.

I do thought it was a bit stupid that if they are all supposed to be sticking to the same story, not to realise that the police will also speak to the wives who won't have the same loyalty and will tell the truth.

I always find it interesting in dramas how people can remember what time and dates they arrived, went out somewhere etc years after the event! I went out with my parents on the Millennium eve to watch fireworks, but couldn't tell you what time we left the house or got home again.
