I love this show.....but I don't get why only men are being seen as suspects. the police team seem to have ruled out a woman killer, why?

I saw the manifest for the cottage listed a "Mel"

Mel could be a bloke but I think that it's more likely that she's the Quiz Show Hosts bit on the side because he said "sweetheart" on the phone and that she joined him and the lads for Millennium night.

At that time his son was either very small or his wife was pregnant

The other part of me says that the doctor being guilty is too obvious as he has been established as shady

Whoever is guilty, it's the artist and the salesman who's ability to function in life has been hardest hit

The other two have gone on with life as if it never happened.

It could be that NM went to Hong Kong for a while to do a disappearing act because in the time immediately following they all thought he'd get caught.

True MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood. NM's character seems quite reckless - just deciding to cash the £3000 client's cheque (how's he going to get out of that mess?).

Newmodel - he's already been rumbled as the daughter of the man he took the cheque from rang up to cancel the ISA and there was no record of it. NM walked in during the phone call from the daughter and heard the conversation from one end and then left abruptly when he realised he was in serious trouble.
His wife's already spent all the money hasn't she - so he can't replace it...

I often watch these dramas and sometimes still never know the names of the characters - i should put the subtitles on more.
how dodgy salesman thinks he will get away with his scam is a bit beyond me.

Who did Kevin McNally phone when he said something like "they've been. It'll all come out?"

I thought he said "Ells", so assumed it was his son although calling him darling was a bit odd.

How old is Elliott meant to be? Not sure he's old enough to have had a holiday romance with Hayley 18 years ago.

I also thought he said "Ells" which was why I'd asked-but a pp has put that he was there with someone called "Mel"?

I thought maybe Elliott had had a fling with Hayley, they got into a fight and he strangled her and then his dad and his mates helped him cover up the crime.

But on second thoughts, I think he's no more than about 25 so there goes my theory!

Unless as a young child he somehow caused an accident??

But then if it's "Mel" then presumably it's about an affair?

Watched it with subtitles on and if they’re right he said “Els” not “Mel”.

How could it have been an accident when she was strangled?

Or another theory - one of the men killed her and the others helped him cover it up BUT Elliott witnessed it and its haunted him since, so that's why he's got so many problems now.

Plausible?

It's 2018.

Hadn't realised that Mel was his ex wife-probably not an affair then!!
(Unless it was someone using her name!!)

He's James Hollis (the Quiz Show Host) and he took out the letting.

But then he Does Say :

"Els, it's Dad again it's happened Sweetheart, they've come, the police, about her"

I think in the pause the phone is handed to someone else

Perhaps she's his daughter and we haven't seen her yet as she lives with her mother, his ex wife.
All the stuff about the son could be a red herring.

I think that he could still have been talking to his son.

Wonder who Chris Lowe's "+2" were?
