Starts on Sunday on ITV1.

OP posts:
Smidge001 · 12/08/2018 23:06

I hope it's not the ex cop. That would really shake up cassie some more and I think she'd quit the force worrying her judgement was off. She's already talked to him about thinking she's past it. What with leaving the file, feeling the cause of pete's death, potentially forgetting things at home etc. I'm a bit worried this is going to be the last series.

Smidge001 · 12/08/2018 23:07

Oh, and why didn't they ask the drug dealer what Hatley was wearing??
I want to know if she was dressed as Madonna or not dressed up at all. Might shed light on whether the twins swapped identities.

LarkDescending · 12/08/2018 23:26

Please not ex cop - we need him back next series as Cassie’s love interest! 💕

ClandestineAdulation · 12/08/2018 23:44

Maybe the ex-cop is involved, but didn’t do it. Withheld some really important info in the case or massively over-looked something? I’m sure there’s more than one person implicated, it’s not solely down to the horrible doctor.

LarkDescending · 12/08/2018 23:47

On a different angle, please can someone remind me what we know of Hayley’s father? Have we seen him?

Graphista · 13/08/2018 00:09

We haven't seen Hayley's father, I think he's deceased.

What has been said by Jessica is that many both strangers and supposed friends, believed her father had done something to her.

I'm surprised there was such a seemingly thorough investigation, publicity etc surrounding a late teens disappearance. In real life I suspect it would be put down to her having run away, or drugs or a teen pregnancy or something.

Although the boyfriend alluded to the police 'not doing their job'.

This was supposed to have changed post Fred & rose west but in reality that didn't have even a medium term effect.

Fiderer · 13/08/2018 08:19

I'm leaning towards CardiganCop. He admitted that he and his superior wasted 5 (?) days assuming Hayley was in/around Middenham and only later widened the search. Perhaps Cardigan Cop pushed that belief and generally contributed to the bungling of the case.

He would also have been able to plant the things found in Dr Tim's house once he knew he was a suspect. Though we don't know if the things were Hayley's. Might belong to one of his daughters.

Also would have had a high viz jacket and he mentioned traffic duty, he would also have had easy access to details of ongoing roadworks.

RoseTheHatt · 13/08/2018 08:24

I reckon the things in DrTims house belong to Bob’s mum - the one he was accused of being horrible to st the beginning.

southeastdweller · 13/08/2018 08:40

He could also be hiding them for Chris. It’s very unlikely that out of the four, Chris is the only one not guilty of anything? So i’m Sure he’s either the killer or more likely, did in fact look at the child abuse pics, or both. And that’s why they’ve cast James Fleet as Chris, so we get a big shock at the end.

waterlego6064 · 13/08/2018 08:52

Bohemond, I think it was Mel too. Mainly because that’s the only way for it to be a twist now!

hackmum · 13/08/2018 08:55

I like Bohemond's suggestion about Mel!

I am also veering towards southeastdweller's idea.

We can be pretty sure that Tim is a wrong 'un. But it can't just be as straightforward as Tim being the murderer. Or can it?

We know that Chris was having a manic episode on New Year's Eve, and also that he'd taken cocaine. We also know that Tim is kind and generous to Chris in a way that he isn't to other people. So my thinking was that maybe Chris killed Hayley, perhaps by accident, and Tim is covering up for him. Now I'm wondering if it's the other way around - that Chris knows something but Tim is relying on Chris to cover up for him. It wouldn't surprise me if Tim had had some sexual involvement with Hayley, maybe even raped her.

But there must be a twist. With these things it's so often the case that when all the evidence points towards one person, the murderer is someone who's very close to them (this is what happened in the first series).

mmmgoats · 13/08/2018 09:14

@bohemond YES! I've been trying to come up with a reason why one of the wives could have done it, I said earlier in the thread I thought Mrs Hollis [or ex Mrs Hollis actually, I get a confused with all the wives!] wasn't quite right for some reason after she gave that really in depth interview initially. Love your theory.

buttybuttybutthole · 13/08/2018 09:30

Well it is being gradually revealed that all the suspects have something to hide but none of them did it. But it doesn't explain the flashbacks all of them were having.

My guess is the culprit is a lot closer to home- Mum/Dad/Sister. I agree the trophies are from the old ladies and cardigan cop is shifty.

Saffkat · 13/08/2018 09:35

Hayley's dad was in episode 2 when Cassie met the family - parents and sister - for the first time. Like his wife he looked broken.

RoseTheHatt · 13/08/2018 09:39

Yeah I think it’ll come out that cardigan cop isn’t taking no for an answer not because he’s dead keen on Cassie but because he needs to be kept in the loop re: the investigation.

RoseTheHatt · 13/08/2018 09:40

I really hope her dads horrible gold digging girlfriend gets exposed before her dad buys a place with her.

Graphista · 13/08/2018 09:48

I think it's more likely Tim is nice to chris because he at least thinks Chris saw something incriminating.

Chris saying about a "personal event" causing him to spiral, suggests to me he was a victim of csa, rather than a perpetrator or even a colluder.

The trophies may not be from old ladies - as in he molested them when they were old - but ladies who were young at the time but eg the underwear belongs to a young girl/woman from a long time ago when there was less choice in underwear.

Not sure your ages but I'm 46 and certainly when I was late teens/20's underwear options were pretty basic.

Thinking the underwear probably not hers but the necklace (hairs - dna?) I think will turn out to be hers.

Previous series there were twists BUT they didn't do that thing of cheating the viewer by having it turn out to be someone COMPLETELY from left field (am I right in remembering at this point that the twist in s1 related to it being a racially motivated murder and the murderer seemingly last of the suspects you would think of as racist?)

Dad is still alive? I missed that. I don't think it's the dad.

The ex cop - I think it's possible he messed up but I don't think he was involved in the murder or planting evidence - more likely missing evidence, dismissing a witness statement or something.

"I really hope her dads horrible gold digging girlfriend gets exposed before her dad buys a place with her." Be good wouldn't it? He was REALLY annoying me with the patronising shit though! So might be satisfying to see him get (slightly) shafted! How is she "poor" when she's an unmarried, child free career woman though? What else did I miss? (I can see me having to watch the lot again!)

CluedoAddict · 13/08/2018 09:55

SPOILER FOR SERIES 1 BELOW.

@Graphista series 1 was to do with sexuality not race. The murderer found her husband with a man. It was because he was gay.

YeTalkShiteHen · 13/08/2018 10:00

Aye series one was the total out of left field one!

Cassie has 2 boys, they’ve just not been on camera this series bar a FaceTime or two I think.

I hope the girlfriend get booted too, I don’t like the dynamic of Cassie and her dad at odds.

Violetroselily · 13/08/2018 10:46

The blurb for next week's episode on Radio Times is a bit of a surprise

Graphista · 13/08/2018 10:48

Argh! Yep I've misremembered and muddled with another storyline in that series that was a red herring - sorry.

But it wasn't totally left field, after the reveal the 'clues' became obvious I think?

YeTalkShiteHen · 13/08/2018 10:48

Violetroselily what’s the blurb? Apparently there was a big twist in last night’s (the end I guess) and a big one in the middle of next week but no hints of clues!

Purplemond · 13/08/2018 11:08

i thought Cassie just had the one son, the one in America ?
Whats the deal with Sunny and Ursla, is she his ex wife and do we know why she left ?

YeTalkShiteHen · 13/08/2018 11:19

I’ve been watching 1&2 again and I’m sure she talks about two boys but we’ve only ever seen one.

Aye she’s the ex wife and she left for another man.

LarkDescending · 13/08/2018 12:14

I think that on their first? meeting Cassie and Cardigan Cop bonded over the fact they each had two grown-up children of much the same ages.
