Starts on Sunday on ITV1.

Alan Bennett - Tim
Hugo - Chris
Paxman - James
Tony - Pete

I'm just going withe names of their best-known characters for three of them and Paxman for the other because he hosts a University Challengesque quiz!

I was suspicious about helpful detective, because why else bring in Archie from Monarch of the Glen? But I think he's there as an ongoing love interest for Cassie, which is much better all around!

FawnDrench · 07/08/2018 13:59

And where has Chris disappeared to?
Makes him seem even more unsettled and suspicious but could be a yet another red herring.

CoolCarrie · 07/08/2018 14:24

Queen that is a great idea for the names.

Clawdy · 07/08/2018 14:39

Still doesn't help when they're being talked about on the programme though!

Ingurr · 07/08/2018 14:51

I hope that Pete doesn't die but perhaps he will be in a coma for a while. The place where he was stabbed is next to a large car park with people coming and going all day.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 07/08/2018 14:52

Pete the fraudster lies almost every time he opens his mouth but agree, don't think he's the killer.
Both the doctor's eldest and Jamie's son saw something that troubles them still.

Flailing here, maybe it was one of the wives and the husbands collaborated to dispose of the body?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 07/08/2018 14:57

WinterHoliday said upthread:
I always find it interesting in dramas how people can remember what time and dates they arrived, went out somewhere etc years after the event!

So true!

FawnDrench · 07/08/2018 15:37

I thought Pete was stabbed near his workplace.
His boss rang him while Pete was on the train and said he'd packed all his stuff up in a box for Pete to collect.
And he told him to google his name to see all the vitriol online about him.

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/08/2018 16:05

I don't think Pete is dead - if he's been stabbed in his office parking lot then I'm sure someone will find him and call an ambulance.

I was wondering if the doctor was the one doing the credit card stuff in order to cause a breakdown in Chris - as he did with his wife - because he likes the power. But possibly because he wanted Chris to be a less credible witness because he saw something.

It's definitely not going to be as simple as Elliott did it, no twin swap, and the 4 guys covered it up. I think there's two or three sub-strands.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/08/2018 16:18

PETE won’t die. Was a small stab and public place

CHRIS isn’t a paed. He got set up. Hence why has no bank accounts anymore etc

Prob by one of his friends - maybe the doc

I still think he did it !!!

Def something dodgy about the twins. Unless she just feels guilt as swapped nyw

cheesydoesit · 07/08/2018 16:19

AveABanana I thought the same about Dr Evil and the credit card. He's awful.

Meanderthal · 07/08/2018 16:25

Late to the party here but I'm hooked on this series!
I agree there's something bothering the doctors oldest daughter, also agree that he was the one accessing the websites. I think Elliott is a red herring..but just who is the girl doing the blog?
I have no idea who dunnit.

mizu · 07/08/2018 16:27

I loved this last episode - thought next week would be the final episode and wondered how they would pack it all in so glad someone said they were looking forward to the penultimate episode on Sunday.

I reckon Nicola Walker's character is just really, really tired, didn't she say she wanted to sleep for a year when they had cracked the case against one point?

I am finding myself wanting to know more about each character as they are all interesting in their own way.

southeastdweller · 07/08/2018 16:36

I can’t remember if anyone’s suggested this, but I think Chris confided in Dr Tim when they were at school together that he was abused and now Tim feels protective of him.

It would be really easy to think that Tim is evil but the writer is cleverer than that.

MyDcAreMarvel · 07/08/2018 16:43

Pete won’t die because the Cassie would have to resign and there would be no third series.

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/08/2018 16:45

This is the third series Grin

Next week's episode is going to end with Cassie saying she's figured out whodunnit, but we'll have to wait til the week after to find out!

LOL - QueenoftheAndals we call Neil Morrisey's character Bob the Builder :-D

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 07/08/2018 16:53

I've had to make a list of the main and ongoing characters as I'm getting confused with all the ex wives and who's who.

Observations, corrections and additions very welcome please.

Victim Hayley Reid, surviving twin sister, Jessica Reid, boyfriend Adrian Mullery. Parents? Body found on a building site off the M1.

Original DCI John Bentley. DCI Cassie Stuart, father Martin Hughes plus girlfriend, not sure of her character name? DI Sunny Khan, two daughters Gemma and Aisha and ex wife Usha. DC Fran Lingley and DC Jake Collier.

Chris Lowe, estranged daughter Maya, girlfriend/fianceé Jamila and her son Asif. Location, Bristol.

Dr Tim Finch, wife Carol, ex wife Derran, two daughters Emma and Claire. Location, Hampshire.

Peter Carr, wife Maria, two sons, one is named Will. Location, Norfolk.

James Hollis, wife Amy, ex wife Melissa and trans son Eliot. Location, London.

Sandra Rayworth, blogger
Mark (Pete's boss)

EverettVonScott · 07/08/2018 19:41

So I've been mulling this over a bit.

Could the internet troll woman be related to the original investigator of the case?

I think they said his name but I'll have to rewatch episode 1. He's dead, I think, so we only have nice cop's version of events. There was an implication that something untoward or fishy or just odd/off had happened. Could nice cop be blaming dead cop unfairly?

Also, if internet troll woman got hold of the file, how did that happen? It seems unlikely unless she is following cassie.

MyDcAreMarvel · 07/08/2018 19:43

Oops fourth series then.

tamsinconditions · 07/08/2018 20:10

It could be that a drug deal went wrong, possible involving Elliott. The dealer was Hayley's BF dealing out of the pub and Heyley was sent to the Spinney cottage with the gear under the guise of doing her friend's cleaning shift. I base this on Mel (James's ex) mentioning some drugs that night, Hayley's BF being a conspiracy theorist and anti-police, Pete threatening James that he will inform on Elliott unless he gives him more money, James saying "its Dad, they've come about Her'.

Elsewhere:

Cassie's Dad definitely had left the pan to burn, she found it when she had come in straight from work.

Chris is not a molester, he really loves Jamila. He does not want to speak to James, perhaps because he was the source of him going off the rails, and Pete could have been the person who defrauded Chris and accessed the obscene material.

Jessica, the surviving twin, did not seem to have accepted that Hayley was dead for sure, hoping she was still alive somehow - hence the awful howls of pain when she was on her own by the water's edge.

Tablefor4 · 08/08/2018 11:59

I'm going to throw in that TV quiz could not have done it because then Jeremy Paxman would actually sue given that they've made so close to reality! Grin

Although, thinking about it, is there a reason why it's a university quiz as to a general public quiz show?

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/08/2018 12:35

It may well have been a general quiz, I just saw young people on it and immediately thought University Challenge!

The similarity isn't as obvious as Trevor Eve's fake Alan Sugar in series 1 though...
