Starts on Sunday on ITV1.

I got the impression that Chris was manipulating Tim into making the complaint against Cassie. They have an odd relationship - I’m not sure which of them is in control.

On the other hand, Tim definitely seemed to engineer the “ blackmail” scenario with his ex wife. She seemed to have a grievance about money he owed her - and he asked her to quantify it, which she did.

hackmum · 07/08/2018 07:21

MyDCAreMarvel: "I think Hayley’s twin was caught by Hayley having sex with Elliot. They then accidentally killed her trying to keep her quite . Elliot dad covered it up to protect his son and career."

I quite like that. And who knows, perhaps the twin was pretending to be Hayley because Elliott had already met her cleaning the house and had a crush on her. It doesn't explain what Dr Tim's role in it is, though.

On the Elliott issue - I assume they deliberately chose a young actor to play Elliott to fool the viewers. Like the police we all thought he must have been about 7 or 8 at the time of the killing when he was actually 15.

YeTalkShiteHen · 07/08/2018 07:25

I think the surviving twin is in fact Hayley, and that she’s lied for some reason to become Hayley.

The doctor is creepy as fuck, I think there’s more to come from his first wife.

diddl · 07/08/2018 07:40

"I think Hayley’s twin was caught by Hayley having sex with Elliot."

Ooh, like that idea!

"The doctor is creepy as fuck,"

Is was odd when his daughters were being spoken to-just one speaking for both of them & the other saying nothing.

Also his current wife seems to idolise him & also the sort to have no opinion/"cause no trouble".(sorry, can't think of another phrase)

YeTalkShiteHen · 07/08/2018 07:49

I think the quiet daughter has more to say, definitely!

The wife is very Stepford wife isn’t she? Must not deviate from the rules!

I hope Chris isn’t what they think he is, and is reunited with his daughter and gets married.

I’m not buying Pete as convincing, also not sure if he’s dead or not.

I really hope Sunny’s ex doesn’t mess his new life up either!

FlowerOfTheValley · 07/08/2018 07:58

The Doctor's elder daughter definitely knew more than she was letting on. There was something about her face that suggested she had remembered something significant.

I hope Chris isn't a paedophile. He had seemed genuine wanting to help his fiancée and her son. I hope there wasn't an alterior motive with the son. As someone mentioned there has to be a good reason why he won't use a bank, hoping it's because someone had used his cards to look at images.

I am probably entirely wrong but I think Hayley is totally genuine and just grieving for her twin. Possibly plans changed and she should have been there instead of her twin or with her and she feels extra guilt. However, I don't think she's pretended to be her since she died.

Pete doesn't seem to take any responsibility for his actions, there is always an excuse. I don't think he is the killer. I would be surprised if he died but it looked like he was stabbed somewhere quiet so I don't think a passerby would come to his aid. I agree he was stabbed by someone who knew him.

The doctor and the tv presenter both have a very dark side and I would like the killer to be one of them. The son clearly is extremely troubled by an event in his past so I wouldn't be surprised if it was him.

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/08/2018 08:00

The doctor sets alarm bells ringing as he's very smug and creepy. Then again it could just be years of watching Alex Jennings playing those kinds of parts!

I couldn't work out why Cassie was looking at extremely private files in a cafe. It seemed very odd. She did keep making reference to being tired hence forgetting the file. I hadn't thought it might be her rather than her dad with dementia.

supercalifragilistic2 · 07/08/2018 08:02

I wonder if Chris's identity was stolen hence his lack of bank account and previously living in the van as opposed to a house. It's clear that it's not due to having no income. So not him as a paedophile but someone who cloned his card. Possibly Tim or James maybe?

I'm confused why Pete chose to tell Tim what he knew about Elliot and not the police? I think maybe Elliott stole the car (that was seen driving irrationally) and potentially saw what happened that night. Hence the estrangement from his dad. I don't think he's enough of a main character to have actually committed the crime.

My money is on both James and Tim being the killers and Hayley approached James because he was famous or something similar, James tried in on with her and she tried to run. Hitting her head blah blah blah.

I think the daughter with the dark hair may suspect something about her dad. I think there's more of her to come.

I don't think Pete had anything to do with it, I think the flashback he has to the blood, is him cutting his arm on the glass. I think he will die, simply because then whatever the secret he has about Elliott won't be made public. Did Tim arrange the killing?

thatone · 07/08/2018 08:06

I don't think the twin sisters could have got mixed up because the victim had that surgery with the metal thing (forgotten all the technicals).

YeTalkShiteHen · 07/08/2018 08:07

I wondered that too!

mmmgoats · 07/08/2018 08:07

I think Pete told Tim because he said the police wouldn’t believe him now, after he had lied to them and now he was in the papers (would think he was trying to save himself maybe?) that’s what he said at the beginning of the phone call I think

Agree surviving twin was a little weird in the coffin scene, couldn’t work out if it was a deliberate red herring or not

YeTalkShiteHen · 07/08/2018 08:08

thatone ah shit I forgot about that you’re right! Bang goes my theory!

(Unless they had a history of swapping)

Clawdy · 07/08/2018 08:14

If Hayley 's twin was involved in her killing in any way, surely she would have pretended there was no history of a broken limb, when she got the initial police phone call? Why tell them that it could be her sister, knowing it would open up the whole thing? That doesn't make sense.

nowifi · 07/08/2018 08:21

Elliot could have stolen his Dads car and knocked Hayley over. But then it would be a hit and run case so I'm wrong. I'm no good at this detective stuff!

mmmgoats · 07/08/2018 08:39

@clawdy maybe because she couldn’t be sure they wouldn’t do further checks/ask their parents further down the line while trying to identify her? Better to look helpful and like you’re cooperating...

Hoppinggreen · 07/08/2018 09:19

I think the doctor is a very very bad man. And think that one of his daughters knows it.
I think Pete is too weak to hurt anyone, it’s not his style
In the flashbacks there is a credit card, I thought it was drug related but maybe it’s to do with the online child pornography.
Chris seems to have no sexual feelings towards his fiancée, he hasn’t been creepy with her son yet but he’s now showing any attraction to her either

hackmum · 07/08/2018 09:46

Supercali: "I think he will die, simply because then whatever the secret he has about Elliott won't be made public."

Yes, I agree. If he survives, how does him being stabbed help the plot?

I also agree that it could be Tim or James or possibly Elliott who used his card details.

But there has to be a twist as well. We're all expecting something on the lines of Tim/James/Elliott did it and was witnessed by the others who then covered it up, so there has to be something more. (DD's theory is that it was Tim's ex-wife and the others are covering up for her, which is clever but unlikely in my view. However, there has to be a reason the three marriages broke up so it suggests that the women know more than they're letting on.)

FawnDrench · 07/08/2018 10:18

So many intriguing possibilities and theories!

I read somewhere that it might the "helpful" detective from the original investigation but I think that's a step too far don't you?

Just loving it and really looking forward to the penultimate episode on Sunday.

tamsinconditions · 07/08/2018 10:18

It could be that none of the 4 men did it and they are covering up something else entirely from their schooldays.

Maybe, except that the format of the Unforgotten series so far has been that the killer/s of the victim are introduced early on in the story, it's the motive that's only revealed at the end.

Is it just me or is Cassie's dad a bit sinister and tries to confuse her?
His outburst about her being lonely seemed like a sideways dig at her job. It's a realistic seeming father-daughter portrayal though.

If Pete does die won't Cassie's career will be in the poo?

Clawdy · 07/08/2018 10:35

I wish the four men had more distinctive names. Find myself thinking : "Chris? Pete? Which one's that......"

thatone · 07/08/2018 10:40

FawnDrench I suspected the original detective too, just because I couldn't see why he was brought in to the plot.

Agree Clawdy - names are not distinct enough I only know them as doctor, artist, tv man and fraudster.

Hogtini · 07/08/2018 11:07

Agree about the names. I had to really think when Sunny started referring to them quickly by surname in the car!

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/08/2018 11:10

Just do what I do and think of them as Alan Bennett, Hugo, Paxman and Tony.

Queen, but which is which? And possibly why?
