Starts on Sunday on ITV1.

OP posts:

In a funny way, I want Chris to be a paedo, because that's something I wouldn't have expected from James Fleet's casting.

jjemimapuddleduck · 05/08/2018 23:35

I think the stabbing was committed by Elliot.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 05/08/2018 23:40

Just watched it.

Refuse to believe Elliot is 34

Hoping that Chris isn't really a paedophile

Hoping that the awful blogger who needs a slap is charged with something, have a feeling that something she does will lead to the killer/s getting off.

MissEliza · 06/08/2018 00:06

I've got 'doubts' about Hayley's twin. I feel she's hiding something.

Pemba · 06/08/2018 00:54

Is it going to turn out that Cassie is the one forgetting things rather than her dad?

I thought that too Rayna ! The dad was seeming to show the first signs of dementia and viewers were wondering if his girlfriend would dump him etc., but I think we were being purposely misdirected. Cassie might have been the one who left the pan on the stove (last episode?) and that would tie in with her leaving her file on Pete thingy in the cafe, and all the serious consequence of that. It is being signposted.

Poor Cassie! I hope she doesn't develop early onset dementia and end up like Kenneth Branagh at the end of 'Wallander' - that was heartbreaking.

hackmum · 06/08/2018 08:48

The suggestion that Cassie has dementia is intriguing but I suppose we wouldn't have many more series of Unforgotten if she's the one with dementia. Surely leaving that file in the cafe was the kind of thing any of us could do under stress? Though I do think that taking a file like that into a public place is a bit dodgy in the first place. And slightly surprised that the police still use paper files.

At the moment, all the signs are pointing to something involving James, Tim and James's son Elliott, perhaps with James and Tim covering up for something Elliott has done. (Or possibly vice versa; Elliott knows something that Tim and James don't want him to reveal.)

However, that is all slightly too obvious and we need a twist. I'm very interested in Dr Tim's character: some of the time he seems lovely and kind, but he obviously also has a very nasty streak. He is very very thoughtful and sweet to Chris, which makes me wonder whether Chris has done him a big favour in the past? Maybe Chris has covered up for him? Otherwise there is no need for someone like Tim to care about someone like Chris, who has gone from being a CEO to a homeless man with mental health problems.

About Pete. He phoned Tim to tell him that he'd seen something involving Elliott New Year's Eve. Now presumably Tim already knows this, and is worried about Pete telling the police, so perhaps indeed it is him and/or James who arranged to have him stabbed.

Keeping an open mind on the twins thing. It could be a red herring.

tamsinconditions · 06/08/2018 11:37

James Fleet is bordering on a national treasure like Nicola Walker. Chris is not a child molester, surely something else happened like identity theft as pp has suggested, IMO.

I think Pete's attack was a hit organised by Tim, who is a slimy POS. The daughters knew what was going on but preferred to sweep it under the carpet. This kind of thing sometimes happens, where the kids blame the parent for her own abuse. Siobhan Redmond, who plays Tim's poor ex wife, is good at playing brittle but decent characters.

Cassie may be developing a brain tumour, symptoms include loss of memory, fatigue and insomnia - all of which she has shown recently. If she starts with headaches, nausea or seizures then we will know for sure. So, she goes on extended leave to cover the disciplinary for letting Pete's file get into the public domain, has an op, then all is right at rain for the next series.

tamsinconditions · 06/08/2018 11:40

*right as rain.

(Rain is that wet stuff that used to fall from the sky)

lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 06/08/2018 15:00

Yep Chris was really anti bank account - which makes sense if your identity was stolen.

On the other hand we have been rooting for Chris and his relationship so it's good to flip that

On the other hand again - not that progressive to have the man living in his van with mh issues to be the bad guy.

Who knows?!

I binge watched the first couple of seasons so I am struggling with the iweek to week thing (remember when that was the only option?!)

NotPerTickly · 06/08/2018 16:29

Cassie having a brain tumour would be a blatant copy of Broadchurch.

Violetparis · 06/08/2018 16:44

I wondered if there will be a twist and Chris's vulnerabilty is because he is a victim of child abuse rather than a perpetrator. It was a really good episode last night.

Pemba · 06/08/2018 16:49

Do we think Pete is definitely dead?

mmmgoats · 06/08/2018 18:01

I’m unsure if Pete is dead. If he is surely that would cause serious problems for Cassie?
In the real world they wouldn’t let her stay on the case surely?

I too think Chris’s background isn’t as clear cut as him being a child abuser - I might go back and rewatch the interview with the wife who described him as going mad on the holiday I can’t remember if she recalled what he was raving about

BillStickersIsInnocent · 06/08/2018 19:04

When we last saw Chris was he about to overdose? He was taking pills and then his wife to be was phoning the centre to see whether he’d turned up yet.

southeastdweller · 06/08/2018 19:17

I think the writer is too good for Chris to be a victim of identity fraud and genuinely not be a paedophile. I’m expecting a scene on Sunday where James Fleet knocks it out of the park as his character justifies looking at child abuse pictures by saying he was ‘only looking’.

mmmgoats · 06/08/2018 19:56

Do we think elliot is involved in the child abuse somehow? he seems very troubled. Maybe there’s a link there with chris somehow?

diddl · 06/08/2018 20:56

Woah-Siobhan Redmond!

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/08/2018 21:28

I thought that was her @diddl! I'd not seen her in anything for years.

If Chris is a paedo then I'm wondering if he abused Elliot and that's what sent him down the wrong track? They could've hired an actor who's actually in his 30th to play Elliot though!

OP posts:
Graphista · 06/08/2018 21:45

Yes I think Elliot was poorly cast. I think he's more likely to be a victim than a perpetrator.

Howdydoodyfolks · 06/08/2018 21:46

Off topic slightly....

Just watching Episode 4 - the girl who plays one of the Docs daughters is the image of Cassandra from OFAH!! Have googled but cant find her name - anyone know it? Off t o google Gwyneth Strong who i think was Cassandra.

HelenaDove · 06/08/2018 21:54

FUN FACT Gwyneth Strong was in a creepy film as a child It was called Nothing but the Night. Also starred Peter Cushing Christopher Lee and Diana Dors.

southeastdweller · 06/08/2018 21:59

Jo Herbert and Lucinda Dryzek play Chris's daughters.

MyDcAreMarvel · 06/08/2018 22:07

I think Hayley’s twin was caught by Hayley having sex with Elliot. They then accidentally killed her trying to keep her quite . Elliot dad covered it up to protect his son and career.
The way the twin said my darling sister over her coffin was really creepy.

Howdydoodyfolks · 06/08/2018 22:14

Thank you southeastdweller for the names, doesnt seem like she is any relation to GS after all
MyDcAreMarvel I think you are on to something there

FawnDrench · 06/08/2018 23:40

The surviving twin was really weird over the coffin - why didn't she call Hayley by her name?
Was she seeing Hayley's boyfriend secretly then Hayley found out?

It could be that none of the 4 men did it and they are covering up something else entirely from their schooldays.
