I often think Alex is actually quite stupid, a Dr he may be but surely many people through repetition, privilege, the right tutoring and a good memory, can achieve this?

He does seem quite dim. My DH, who’s a surgeon, thinks he wont get through training. But he may have a perfectly good science brain just lack emotional intelligence and social skills.

Having said that I know a lot of doctors and I’ve never met one so socially inept.

I’ve met loads of docs who have the social skills of a leper. I don’t think Alex is that unusual in my experience.

I don't see how he is socially inept though. I think he'd make a great doctor. He seems kind, patient, gentle and everyone who goes in likes him (just doesn't fancy him!)

Alex isn't socially inept- he's just more normal!!! The other guys are the biggest bunch of slimy, big headed, sweet talking players that ever walked the earth. None of the men I know are anything like these guys socially with women. Nice guys don't go on shows like this normally- Alex stands out because he's more ordinary.

I fear for my own children when they are young adults after watching this series. It's so cringe.

I don't actually fear for my pre- teen children as I NEVER come across anyone like any of the LI contestants in real life! All my nieces and nephews are in their 20s- they all look normal ( ie no plastic surgery) and all their friends do as well and they are all generally nice people. A little selfie obsessed maybe but that's all. Admittedly a couple of my nephews may well have fancied Megan but they wouldn't go out with her in a million years.
I agree Alex is a bit cringe but I bet in real life he is pretty normal and not socially awkward at all. I would feel bloody awkward with all the people in there but would feel right at home in a villa full of doctors.
Complete aside but I also never see thong bikinis in real life (other than on a couple of Russian prostitutes at a posh hotel once). Are they mainstream now? ( thank god they weren't in my youth...)

Alex doesn't see the women as people - he is blinded by their glamour. The other guys are used to women that doll up like that, so aren't so tongue tied in their presence.

On another note, can we please stop slagging off Laura's looks? I thinks she is beautiful and the relentless trashing of her figure, hair and complexion is just not necessary.

Thanks guys. I was feeling concerned that both Alex and Samira were being analysed in the discussion as unattractive to the others for more complex reasons.

I haven't given a reality show this much thought since BB in 2009.

Although Celebrity dating agency also fascinates me as there is an uncomfortable interplay between participants 100% faking it and or acting and those who are actually real people being chewed up and spat out by the shows producers.

Samira said she was in Dream Girls. Maybe I assumed she was a title performer? She's doing pretty awesome though right? She's worked hard, and got somewhere with talent. The triple threat action one needs in real - on the stage showbiz.

The early exits of Kendall and Lauren were also partly down to them being unable to fake it.

Just watched first look...can't wait for Megan to ditch Wes. I take back what I said about Alex2 from Essex being fit, he gives off predator vibes it makes my skin crawl.

I've just started watching, caught up over the last few days.

I missed the previous threads discussing this but I'm glad a few others have called bullshit on both Zara's "Government Advisor" job where she "makes the laws" (with no qualifications or experience other than mediocre A-levels and a few years modelling? Eh, no), and Wes's "I'm a nuclear design engineer", again, no. Not at 20, no you're not. At best, you're either a student or an apprentice. I don't expect he's designing the nuclear island at Hinkley Point C

Laura - I like her! She's funny, straight to the point, and she handled the Wes situation admirably. I actually think she's very emotionally intelligent, she knew Wes was fucking her about, that's why she was so on edge. I hate the tattoos and too-long hair though, I have an overwhelming urge to chop it to shoulder length.

I think Megan got interested in Wes because Laura said he had a big cock.
