Is coming back very soon! I'm guessing in the next 2-3 weeks.

Who's excited?! I've read all the books and can't wait for the new series.

OP posts:
MissMarplesKnitting · 01/07/2018 22:45

I think it's relatively close to the book.

Though yes, the main characters need to start to age a bit!!

The actor playing Whitworth is brilliant. His portrayal is spot on. He's utterly believable as the revolting reverend. Collins in P&P was an obsequious social climber but Whitworth is boak inducing.

Clionba · 01/07/2018 23:01

Women didn't go to funerals, but I suppose for the drama it makes it more poignant.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 02/07/2018 04:20

This really really upset me. DS was born with a congenital heart defect that he would have died from if he had been born more than 50 years ago. Apparent;y it happens 1 in a hundred. All that loss, this may be fictional in essence but it must have happened so frequently.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 02/07/2018 06:52

Agree about the actor playing Whitworth. He has him to a tee.

I'd totally forgotten about Dwight and Caroline's daughter dying. That was beyond sad.

I thought yesterday's episode very good.

Ansumpasty · 02/07/2018 07:22

It’s very depressing at the moment...surely there is some happiness to come?? I watch it and then sit there on a downer

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 02/07/2018 08:56

Yes it is depressing, poor morwenna it's just so awful being married to that slug 😝 and babies dying of conditions that are routinely treated now.

I take it Elizabeth and George don't (cant) have a child? I love that their son is basically just a mini poldark! ! I've found myself warming a bit more to George, he is obviously a dick but does seem to be a relatively good husband.

Not sure when mouth to mouth resuscitation was discovered? !!

Clionba · 02/07/2018 09:27

George does love Elizabeth and she's grown attached to him. It was a heart-rending episode. Poor Morwenna is still suffering, imagine if a doctor had agreed with Osborne? A life in an asylum.

user1494521813 · 02/07/2018 09:31

In the books very unfortunately George and Elizabeth do have a child.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 02/07/2018 09:49

I think a life in an asylum would only be marginally worse than being married to oswold!!

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 02/07/2018 10:21

Do Dwight and Caroline have more children?

Clionba · 02/07/2018 10:35

SPOILER ALERT
Yes, Dwight and Caroline have two more daughters and live out their lives in Cornwall.

NymanPerkins · 02/07/2018 10:40

I googled mouth to mouth. Surprisingly it was in use from the mid 18th century, but they didn’t figure out clearing the airway first right away.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 02/07/2018 10:41

Thanks Clionba

WomanLifeIsGoodish · 02/07/2018 12:31

Oh I’m so glad Dwight and Caroline have more children. That’s cheered me up after watching that episode.

I never mind knowing spoilers. It doesn’t take anything away from the story for me!

Will Sam get his happy ever after now that Emma has chosen someone else? He is the best character by far - he needs a meatier story.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 02/07/2018 13:11

Did you know that Trudie Styler played Emma Tregirls in the original series?

I've read all the novels (and seen the original series) but some of the facts aren't very clear any more. I think I have much better recall for the original novels than the ones WG wrote in the 70s.

Clionba · 02/07/2018 14:54

Yes, Sam finds happiness. Do you want to know how?
I read these books as a teenager, and although parts were sad and upsetting, in the end people get the happiness they deserve. That's why I love them, and the series!

Ansumpasty · 02/07/2018 14:58

Clionba I need to know some happiness Smile

Clionba · 02/07/2018 15:04

SPOILER ALERT
Sam is upset at losing Emma. Drake and Rosina plan to marry. The vicar gets killed in a fall from his horse.
Drake marries Morwenna, they have a daughter and find happiness.
Sam marries Rosina who helps him in his mission as the Minister of the area.

eatyourveg · 02/07/2018 15:36

I'm glad about the spoiler - I like knowing it will be ok in the end.

Had a hunch about Sam and Rosina as she asked Drake about him yesterday and I figured she preferred the brother.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 02/07/2018 16:07

Does oswald die then?! (Hopeful)

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 02/07/2018 16:09

Oh the vicar is oswald, durr!! Sorry I blame the heat 😉

Ansumpasty · 02/07/2018 16:35

Thanks, I love a good happy ending Smile

youngowl · 02/07/2018 18:35

Even though Morwenna ends up with Drake, she's always damaged after being repeatedly raped by Whitworth. The later books don't cover her and Drake's story much, but it's clear her first marriage permanently scarred her.

When they marry, Drake tells her it's okay if they never have sex and they spend their wedding night in separate rooms. Obviously they have a daughter years later though, so things did improve on that front.

And Dwight and Caroline's children are born during the time jump, which probably won't be covered in the series. I'm curious as to how much of the story it will cover, there's a seven year time jump and Aidan said he doesn't want to play an old Poldark. He and Eleanor definitely can't pass for 50 year olds.

Plus George and Elizabeth do have a child, but it's no happy ending for them....

Yes last night's episode was sad, but there's so much sadness left to come. The books are brilliant and many characters get their happiness, but there's a lot of sadness along the way.

Cat8303 · 02/07/2018 20:20

Apparently the series will cover all of The Angry Tide.

I'm curious as to what will happen next series, given the next book is after a big time jump. My guess is they will fill in the gap and cover what the books didn't (the birth of the Enys' children, Ross and Demelza's third child, Drake and Morwenna's child being born etc.)

Unfortunately I can't see them covering the later books. They would need to replace the actors and I don't think the BBC is brave enough, which is a shame.

Cat8303 · 02/07/2018 20:24

@Ansumpasty The series does have happy moment but there's a lot of sadness still to come :(
