Is coming back very soon! I'm guessing in the next 2-3 weeks.

Who's excited?! I've read all the books and can't wait for the new series.

OP posts:

Cuby. She was a pain in the arse Grin

woodhill · 04/08/2018 17:12

A lot of T names normally in Cornwall

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 07/08/2018 23:25

Am very late to this thread as only just watched the final episode on iplayer!

I thought the baby was going to die not Elizabeth so was really shocked, I blame Ross for her death!! If he hadn't of gone round and impregnated her when he did she wouldn't have had to lie about Valentine and it was Ross's suggestion that if she had another child it would be better if they were also premature!! As it is Elizabeth did what she had to do to ensure her sons future was safe.

I thought it was really sad, will miss Elizabeth, she was flawed (aren't we all) but a good mother and wife.

Ross is a selfish dick, have gone right off him Grin

glamorousgrandmother · 08/08/2018 07:33

I can't see the logic of the baby having to be premature even if valentine was supposed to be. Jeffrey Charles wasn't.

SadieHH · 08/08/2018 07:53

George isn't Geoffrey Charles's father, he's nothing to do with anything.

All she needed/wanted to do was convince George that both of his children had been premature. Remember that very little was known about the intricacies of pregnancy then, and men like George would have known even less than that.

SadieHH · 08/08/2018 07:56

Yes and Ross is a dick! This particular Ross is even more dickish. He didn't seem to be a dick in the 70s Wink maybe because I fancied Robin Ellis more than Aidan Turner... Grin

beguilingeyes · 08/08/2018 08:03

He's not a dick in the books either. He and Demelza actually like each other...and they're funny.

SadieHH · 08/08/2018 08:15

The humour is so badly missing from this. The books and first adaptation have some great moments. This is just flat, irritating angst all the way through.

No he wasn't a dick in the books. He had more character about him, more gumption. You could see what drew people to him, that's missing from NewDark.

ElspethFlashman · 08/08/2018 08:21

I don't really know if it's the script or AT playing it too seriously.

It's just "glower glower stomp glower roar interfere roar busybody roar dick measuring contest glower stomp"

And Demelza is such a pathetic wimp lettuce. She goes "Oh Ross...." all sorrowfully.. ..... And then shags him. And sings a song to herself. Then he's a dick, she goes "Oh Ross....." Shags him and all happy again. Repeat every other episode.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 08/08/2018 08:59

elsbeth 😂 yep that about sums it up!!

Going to miss it though 😉

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 08/08/2018 09:02

I'm also surprised that Ursula was a name 200 years ago in my mind it's a name from the 1950s and 60s!! 😂

icelolly99 · 08/08/2018 10:09

Well Girliefriendlikesflowers if it was good enough for Shakespeare....... 😁

TarquinGyrfalcon · 08/08/2018 10:14

DH and I are still chuckling about a line from an episode a few weeks ago.
Demelza wakes up naked in bed in London and asks Ross to pass her nightdress because “tis too bright Ross, I don’t look becoming in daylight“

Yes, young, slender and gorgeous Demelza.

So now whenever one of us is naked we simper “tis too bright, I don’t look becoming in daylight“

Sadly in our case line is all too true 😀

SadieHH · 08/08/2018 10:30

It's a mixture of the crap script and his acting. The script really is crappy, surprising for someone as well known as DH. But crap it is.

beguilingeyes · 08/08/2018 10:42

DH has never done an adaptation before though, just soapy dramas about hairdressers/ beauty salons.

Now she seems to think she's Andrew Davies. She's doing The Count Of Monte Cristo next.

SadieHH · 08/08/2018 10:58

Hasn't she? That would explain it then. I don't watch a lot of tv so it's a name I've heard a lot but don't think I've ever seen anything she's done.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 08/08/2018 11:21

Awful to think of poor Elizabeth lying there all gangrenous and yellow and stinky when she was so beautiful and elegant and gentle in life.

icelolly99 · 08/08/2018 12:33

I'm reading Book 7 which is what the current series is based on. It's interesting to read and notice the changes, additions and characters in the original. As others have said when the on screen narrative is lifted from the book it's much better than the 'new' script additions. The relationship between Ross and George is a background simmer and there are more horses, ancillary characters and servants in the book(s).

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 08/08/2018 13:05

tarquin 😂 I thought that! If demelza has body issues what chance do the rest of us have?!

I had a rage when demelza sent Ross off when they heard Elizabeth was ill 'it would only be neighbourly to enquire' wtaf?! The poor woman is critically ill but yes let's send the neighbours round, never mind the fact that he is an ex and George hates him.

Yes horrible that Elizabeth had a grisly death, she was very beautiful and didn't deserve that. I cried when she said she hated the dark 😢

LapdanceShoeshine · 08/08/2018 14:05

Garrick had a much bigger part in the books. We should have had more of him Grin

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 08/08/2018 14:57

Girlie so did I. Sad Her sight was closing in and that was it. Was still shocked when George told Ross she was dead though.
