Anyone else counting the hours 'til Friday? Saga banged up and stitched up for the murder of her evil mama; how will she cope? Come on Henrik, save our girl!

OP posts:

A couple of thoughts / questions:

  1. Her mum left her diaries to Saga (I think I'm right in thinking she'd got rid of most stuff, but wanted Saga to have those boxes.) The only thing in them was a record of what she was giving to Jennifer. So they acted as her confession. Why? Out of guilt? Love? Something else?

  2. Which was did Saga drive over the bridge at the end? By rights, she should have been going back to Sweden (as I predicted). However, she started at the hospital, then reclaimed the boxes from Malmo police station (I think) then went, where? Back to, and then through, Denmark?

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 29/06/2018 23:33

That was a just about perfect ending. It wasn't the best series, crime story wise, but the best regarding Saga. I think she should stay a police officer as she's shit hot at it.

ICouldBeSomebodyYouKnow · 29/06/2018 23:40

Before the series started, I picked up the message that there was "no possibility" of a follow-up. I took that to mean something much more final than what actually happened. I was very relieved.

I mean, she's so brilliant they're bound to need her for other complex cases surely? As a freelance consultant or something?

Oh, and Go Lillian!

StripySocksAndDocs · 29/06/2018 23:41

It's possible that she left Saga the diaries in the (arrogant) assumption that she'd serve a long sentence and discover them only after she got out and her life almost over or effectively ruined?

As for where she was going, she didn't know? Hopefully to a art deco flat in London, where she'll be a private detective (with an assistant called, just pulling this from no where, something like Miss Lemon)...

AnyFucker · 29/06/2018 23:49

Saga will retrain and become a brilliant microbiologist or pathologist

Dealing with bodily samples or corpses that do not require human interaction is probably more suited to her personality despite recent flashes of warmth

fanominon · 29/06/2018 23:54

ahhh - that was fab - I did guess nearly everything ito the solution but it was well done and pleasing. And SO bloody relived that Saga, Henrick AND Astrid are all left alive - that at least was not what I was expecting! Loved how Saga seemed to be unfreezing throughout the episode - the kiss, a more relaxed face in general, and the final phone answering - beautifully done. Dh and I are going to go 'back to the beginning' and watch her progress - she's come a long way baby...

MuddlingMackem · 30/06/2018 00:04

Like a previous poster I was half desperate to see the episode and half dreading it, and I was so relieved at the end. Plus like another previous poster I thought she was going to jump off the bridge.

For those of you who haven't yet seen it, you might want to watch The Tunnel - the Anglo / French re-make of The Bridge. I was sceptical but really enjoyed it, and after the first series it's completely different.

HardwickWhite · 30/06/2018 01:02

Just beautiful ❤️❤️❤️

Panicmode1 · 30/06/2018 06:11

Perfection. That ending! Sad it's over, but glad they survived... Farewell and thank you Saga.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 30/06/2018 08:13

I thought that confirmation that her gut feeling about her mother was correct gave her the confidence to finally be free.

Just brilliant. Love that we were left to believe that there was a potential future for Saga and Henrik.

Probably one of my top 5 TV series ever, even though it was very dark and more gruesome than I usually would watch. So invested in Saga's (and Henrik's latterly) well-being.

It was a turn-up that her prison cell-mate proved to be the key to the final piece of the jigsaw puzzle.

And aside from the horrible scenes at Henrik's home, with Astrid and Kevin, it was a heartwarming episode in so many ways.

HermioneWeasley · 30/06/2018 10:58

I love that that they didn’t kill off Saga, or leave Henrik without Astrid, but......she loved being a detective. She was good at it, and she loved the methodology and rhythm of it. I didn’t find it plausible that she wouldn’t want to do it any more and wanted to be a free spirit. We’ve seen her compulsively organise her belongings when distressed, and really suffered in prison due to a routine that wasn’t hers and other people touching her things. It just didn’t ring true - she’s ASD not just “odd” or traumatised.

MuddlingMackem · 30/06/2018 11:38

But @HermioneWeasley, maybe she'll go back and finish her degree. That was obviously her original passion, not the police.

HermioneWeasley · 30/06/2018 12:12

Maybe....but she definitely loved her job, just because she came to it for (perhaps) the wrong reasons

Abra1de · 30/06/2018 12:17

Henrik is such a great character and I loved how sensitive he is to his newly found daughter, understanding her mixed feelings about being reunited with him after so long apart.

Toofle · 30/06/2018 12:43

What did she throw off the bridge if it wasn't her phone?

ToffeeUp · 30/06/2018 12:45

Her police badge and id card

VanillaSugar · 30/06/2018 12:47

I think she'll go back to being a police officer as she's very good at it. She'll do it because she wants to do it,not because she feels obliged to do it.

AGnu · 30/06/2018 12:54

Perhaps the need for routine & organisation is just her need for control because of the lack of control she had as a child. She went into the police after her sister died, presumably so she could protect any other teenage girls. In this episode she single-handedly saved 3 girls and proved that her attempts to protect her sister were justified - her work was done.

Throwing her badge over the bridge did seem distinctly un-Saga-ish though. You'd have thought she could've handed back her badge & taken a sabbatical to decide what she wants to do. Unless she knows the plan already... But even then you'd have thought she had to hand her badge back - what if it washes up somewhere & someone uses it to pose as a police officer? She has a responsibility to take care of the badge & presumably would have to report it as lost/stolen & could get into trouble if it was known she was careless with it! I'm a bit hung up on the badge issue... Blush

Toofle · 30/06/2018 12:58

AGnu, you really are! I suppose a mermaid might have attempted to impersonate her.. ToffeeUp, thank you.

ToffeeUp · 30/06/2018 13:07

I like the idea of Saga becoming a pathologist or microbiologist and still assisting in police cases. DH said private detective but I worry about her scaring clients away.

Great series!

VanillaSugar · 30/06/2018 14:01

Who phoned her?

NeverEverAnythingEver · 30/06/2018 14:37

She threw away her badge because of what her therapist said - how sometimes you can break rules because it's the right thing to do, or something like that. Like returning Hans' head.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 30/06/2018 14:38

I wondered about the last phone call. Does she even have friends?

Violetparis · 30/06/2018 14:51

Brilliant series, can anyone recommend something similar on Netflix, iplayer etc ?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 30/06/2018 14:54

Well there's Marcella. Isn't it written by the same writer? Not sure it's in the same league though.

Anyone guessed the spontaneous action that the lead actress brought to the role in the last series?
