Anyone watched it? Not sure about it, but will watch next one. The affair with the sandwich woman got very irritating, all that humping and heaving! Also could not believe he would bring her to live at his house and put his own kids at risk, with her psycho partner around.

All that money when they could have just agreed on contact, I liked the ending that they came to their own conclusions.

So many unanswered questions and definitely room for another series. How does Brenna and Greg's relationship develop? How does Marie cope with her residency and Brennas jealousy? Is Laura told about her real father? What is the dynamic between Marie and her mother?

The80sweregreat · 12/04/2018 09:49

Marie’s mum was so real! Blunt and to the Point. I didn’t really enjoy this drama much but her character was the most interesting one I thought.
The wedding flashbacks and Greg’s wigs were bizarre. No need for that.

Clawdy · 12/04/2018 10:08

Marie looked nearly as old as her mum.

Why on earth would he risk this case to get Brenna back just because she put a smile on his face. Can't he stand being alone with his children? Idiot.

BitOfFun · 12/04/2018 16:21

Many, many people find live without a partner difficult- men perhaps even more so, if you look at the rates of re-marriage within a couple of years of a spouse's death. I thought that was just a believable flaw in his character.

CookPassBabtridge · 12/04/2018 16:37

I just meant while the court case was going on- to give him the best chance of keeping his kids. And then possibly resuming it with Brenna after, giving her time to sort out a divorce with her abusive husband.

Cleebope2 · 12/04/2018 17:24

I couldn’t understand the mum character at all...much too harsh on her daughter when she’d asked for her support in court. I thought she was a cow.

The80sweregreat · 12/04/2018 17:29

A lot of back story with Marie and mum I feel! She was obviously struggling with her leaving the children.

iheartmichellemallon · 12/04/2018 22:56

I thought it was excellent - so well acted & very true to many situations. Absolutely no winners at all but overall my sympathies lie with Marie as he was controlling & not interested in her at all as anything other than wife / mother. The only way for her to break free was to go no-contact for that period.

I actually hope there isn't a 2nd series as I think it finished perfectly.

Boswellox · 13/04/2018 20:58

I thought it was interesting and well done. Red herrings for dramatic purposes aside, it played with current social mores/tropes and raised more questions than it answered and it sustained interest despite the non existence of a maverick detective or a sexual abuse backstory which seems to be the current staple of commissioned drama.

Clawdy · 13/04/2018 22:02

I agree it avoided those usual clichés. And the teenage daughter was a lovely girl, instead of the stereotypical sullen, angry girl we usually see portrayed.

"A lot of back story with Marie and mum I feel! She was obviously struggling with her leaving the children."

I thought the grandmother was also ambivalent about motherhood and that had been passed down to Marie. She was encouraging Marie to have her freedom as if that's what she might have wanted herself.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 14/04/2018 21:51

I found the programme very upsetting and I couldn’t put my finger on why.

Poor bloody kids!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/04/2018 11:01

So the dad chose a woman over his kids even knowing he could lose them

Tho lying about the snip was wrong

Clawdy · 15/04/2018 15:25

And the mum chose a new life over her kids. Neither of them put the children first, they were both selfish. That judge had a difficult decision!

OP posts:
The80sweregreat · 15/04/2018 18:58

The Dad lied about his vasectomy- the mum lied about Laura’s parentage and both didn’t put the kids first. I guess I struggled to understand as it was drummed into me ‘ you put the children first’ - which I’ve always tried to do. ( I’ve been called a Martyr in the past !) you can never win it seems. Not judging anyone by the way - but goes to show your damned in life whatever you do!

Boswellox · 15/04/2018 20:34

Thinking about it a bit more I think its USP was to equivalate cases where mothers leave their children, with the more prevalent cases where men do but with much less stigma. More of these thought provoking dramas please!

iheartmichellemallon · 15/04/2018 22:02

Agreed Boswellox.

About to read the thread but just wanted to post now to say that is 3 hours of my life I will never get back, what a load of shite. Like CE but this was a stinker. Surely family court in NI bears zero resemblance to those ridiculous American style courtroom scenes?
