Anyone watched it? Not sure about it, but will watch next one. The affair with the sandwich woman got very irritating, all that humping and heaving! Also could not believe he would bring her to live at his house and put his own kids at risk, with her psycho partner around.

Yes I worked that out about the son being in the other drama good actor!
Thought it was a bit bitty tonight and not much clearer why she left.
Slightly disappointed it is going the 'custody battle' route as am a family lawyer and so tend to avoid such things as it is not very entertaining to me and is usually inaccurate (although admittedly I don't know NI law). It isn't like a 'and the winner is ... [drumroll]...' in Court as suggested at the end, usually more of a shared care arrangement. The win/lose mentality is not helpful to people's perceptions and can do a lot of harm if perpetuated as a myth.

Clawdy · 03/04/2018 22:42

I really wish they wouldn't show such revealing trailers, it spoils all the anticipation of watching next week.

Kramer vs kramer scenario, coupled with dodgy girlfriend

LanaorAna2 · 03/04/2018 22:56

Thanks so much - I still don't get why the wife bolted. She seemed to be v troubled by her various births, though.

mamaiFifi · 03/04/2018 23:12

Yeh even from his wife's perspective we know very little about why she left and have no sympathy for her. The pain caused to the children 😥 I sobbed so hard during the program.

EachandEveryone · 03/04/2018 23:25

Am i the only one that didnt realise Ray Donovans wife is Irish?

LanaorAna2 · 03/04/2018 23:32

I know the prevailing wisdom is that children are better off with their mothers, but that theory doesn't fit the mothers who don't want to look after them/are happier or saner without their children.

There are a lot of women like that around. Everyone loves their kids, not everyone wants or intends to bring them up. Whisper it, but you can't help wondering whether the children deserve someone who does want them.

I sneakily - and heretically - think some kids are way better off with people who can bear to look at them in the mornings.

MsBeauvoir · 04/04/2018 08:58

Who is Ray Donovan?

Paula Malcolmson, playing the mother, looks almost too old for the role.

her son is 17 and her youngest 5
i think you have been conditioned to expect younger looking mums on tv

Slartybartfast · 04/04/2018 09:27

She is 47, Christopher Eccleson is 54

Clawdy · 04/04/2018 09:47

Yes, I googled her age. She looks older than her age, which I guess is unusual on television these days!

OP posts:
Slartybartfast · 04/04/2018 10:00

A colleague mentioned how she left her children, I drew a sharp intake of breath and never mentioned it again!

Clawdy · 04/04/2018 10:08

I found myself completely losing sympathy for her after she spun the web of lies about not having children to her friend who had confided so much to her.

Really not warming to the mum at all. Do we def know that Greg lied about having a vasectomy or is that just intimated?
And why wait 5 years to decide she wants out? She could’ve terminated in England if she really didn’t want a third at that point - I get that, I would’ve been devastated to get pg with a third at that point in time - but would’ve decided with DH the best course of action.
And Brenna is toxic - wish he’d see the light ‘it’s her or me’, er you’ve known her for 5 mins...

DaffoDeffo · 04/04/2018 15:44

I actually find this quite painful to watch

MissEliza · 04/04/2018 17:42

I'm really struggling to sympathise with Marie. As Greg said she really does fuck the kids up. I don't understand what her problem is.

The80sweregreat · 04/04/2018 19:24

I enjoyed the first episode as a gritty drama with good acting but last nights one left me cold. Brenna is awful. He doesn’t need her around making it all worse.
Marie is unhinged I think - serious issues. I felt sorry for the kids!

lou1221 · 04/04/2018 21:55

@the80s I agree, I didn't enjoy last night's. Can't stand Brenna, really cross that the dad would allow her in the house and bringing the nutter to the door.

Felt so sorry for Marie's work colleague, poured her heart out to her.

I don't know what on earth could happen for her to have left her kids, she really is screwing their lives up. Sad

Gwenhwyfar · 04/04/2018 22:39

"She looks older than her age, which I guess is unusual on television these days!"

She doesn't look older than her age!
She was an older mother the last time around.
Someone mentioned traumatised by the 'various births', but I presumed all the flashbacks were to the last one, the child that was an accident she blames her husband for.

OneInAMillionYou · 04/04/2018 23:47

Yes, I've given up on this.

Was persevering with episode two, finding it unremittingly grim, and realised I didn't care about any of the characters or what the outcome might be.
Off it went, and deleted from planner!

Oblomov18 · 05/04/2018 08:30

Enjoying it so far. Thought she might be a lesbian, and then within seconds realised that no, that would be too simplistic.

Fflursan · 05/04/2018 08:36

Five mins into the 2nd episode and ive decided to stop watching.

Dreary.

Patienceisvirtuous · 05/04/2018 08:57

Do we think she’s so cut up about the birth because her teenage daughter was to her lover and he’s the one she wanted. Another child to Greg was not in her plans...
