I think soaps ('continuing dramas') work best when the bulk of the backdrop reflects real life and the characters are consistent, and then some issues and problems and dramas are thrown into the mix.

Both EE and Corrie are struggling with character consistency lately, as well as too high a turnover of members of stupidly huge casts, and the non-resolution of plots.

The dramas that are then thrown into this look bloody ridiculous, instead of being riveting / entertaining / pleasantly distracting.

The max scenes could have been really moving if they knew the meaning of subtlety, this is just farcical though.

Just finished watching tonight's episode and had to come on the thread to offer Flowers to Akire for the shrunken jumper prediction!

I won't comment on the multiple idiotic plot lines because I'll give myself a headache, but all PPs are right - it's not doing well at the moment.

(Personally I thought that Karen wasn't responsible for the shrinkage, but she was willing to take the blame because Dot had been nice to her. Could be wrong, though - often am!)
