So far so good... seems to be trying to be Scott & Bailey, which could be a good thing

WTF???

Felt like another 5 minutes would have done it but assume they are expecting a 2nd series. On the basis of the comments on this thread and the critics reviews I wouldn't bank on it!

Once again a tv thriller series which has a totally crap ending, mind you this one went down hill pretty fast. 4 hours of my life I won't get back. My DH was smarter than me and only wasted 2 hours of his!

Got the lesbian relationship from episode 1.

Optimist1 · 14/12/2017 23:13

Surely all Ade Edmondson needed to do was to compare the DNA from Linus Roache with the DNA from Joe to prove Bancroft was lying?

Agree that it's a wannabe Line of Duty - and a very poor attempt.

Fattymcfaterson · 14/12/2017 23:42

All those police and not one of them checked the Camera, what a load of shite!

ohfourfoxache · 15/12/2017 00:52

Yeah, it wasn’t great was it?

Completely agree about checking the camera; surely that’s an absolute basic line of enquiry?

Pretty disappointing overall

BitOfFun · 15/12/2017 03:36

Another thing that is really bugging me (apart from the fundamental dishonesty of leaving us on an unnecessary cliffhanger just to garner a second series) is the ridiculous dénouement between Bancroft and Fraser.

In what reality does a person who has just made love with somebody, gazed adoringly at them, and then strutted around the room against the soft backdrop of a flattering window light to show off their fecund new curves, suddenly turn into a massive hellbitch? Taunting the person of their honeyed pleasure of five minutes previously with a recklessly confrontational headfuck of a rejection speech?

It is so ridiculously contrary to most people's (let alone women's) basic social conditioning to behave like this- let's face it, even the most machiavellian of sorts would realistically just ghost their victim, or at least blow them out by text, or phone, or in a safer situation with other people nearby...who actually sneers in the face of an emotionally labile foe, with no back up whatsoever?

The whole thing was just a colander of clichés. Complete garbage.

Yes that annoyed me BOF (I'm not ready to engage with psycho-lesbian business yet 😏).

I haven't listened to this yet, just heard the trailer, but I think it might touch on such things(

BitOfFun · 15/12/2017 10:30

Oh excellent, I'll have a listen to that later, thanks.

HouseOfMouse · 15/12/2017 10:50

Well I stuck with it, but that was completely ludicrous - obviously an attempt at a Line of Duty type thriller, but very poor poundshop version - badly written, full of holes, actually laughable in parts. Waste of a decent cast.

eddiemairswife · 15/12/2017 10:51

Why do the writers of this stuff make female senior police officers such twisted wierdos? There was that terrible thing with Anna Friel in not so long ago. If they can't write sane, convincing women detectives perhaps they ought to go back dependable male characters such as Morse, Lewis, Taggart etc.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/12/2017 11:25

What total total rubbish.

What is happening to TV drama? Dumbed down plots, lack of even basic research (even I know that the Joe DNA would have been inadmissable evidence), cliched stereotypes, usually-excellent actors dialling it in or hamming things up to ludicrous levels. Sara Parish should be ashamed to be associated with this steaming pile of ordure.

Thank god there are still a few jewels, eg Detectorists, dotted around the TV landscape, although they are increasingly rare.

jimijack · 15/12/2017 11:32

Utter shite and a waste of my time.
Weak story line, they have clearly had zero advice from police to make it plausible or believable, too many loose threads and characters that are there for no particular purpose, rubbish, I'm annoyed at myself for watching all four in anticipation of a decent programme and wasting my time.

eddiemairswife · 15/12/2017 11:42

I wonder why they put this on instead of Hatton Garden which was listed in the Radio Times.

LizzieSiddal · 15/12/2017 13:50

I’ve just been watched all 4 episodes in one go Xmas Grin.

It was like a very cheap version of Line Of Duty.

diddl · 15/12/2017 16:24

What a load of bollocks that was.

Nothing new.

Cop as a murdererHmm

Of course if Katherine survives, no one would believe her if she said that it was Bancroft who shot her.

Not worth another series.

JustDanceAddict · 15/12/2017 16:30

Just finished watching on catch up, mainly so Bancroft could get her comeuppance but no, it had to go all cliffhanger on us instead.
I was going to say, why was she such a psycho bitch from hell, people aren’t like that IRL, but then I remembered that I know a couple of women who are of dubious character on the psychotic front.

Battleax · 15/12/2017 16:37

Of course if Katherine survives, no one would believe her if she said that it was Bancroft who shot her.

Second series will probably hinge around her recovering and slowly (in flashbacks?) regaining the memory of the incident and who shot her, as well as the memory of what she'd learnt about the Laura Fraser murder.

All the while Bancroft tries to get the opportunity for a second go at her and continues her DNA test evasion while involved in another case.

I can see it all now Grin

ArsenicNLace · 15/12/2017 19:05

Oh, no, no, no, no, noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Just watched this on catch-up. I thought it would be a bit of mindless rubbish but when they get basic procedural facts wrong!!!!

All Police officers give their DNA (plus fingerprints) so they can be quickly eliminated if they accidentally contaminate a crime scene. You used to be able to refuse your dna but you wouldn't be allowed to work in a Major Incident Team or get to the rank she did if you hadn't.

Also no uniform C/Supt would suddenly take it upon themselves to interview a murder suspect. The best interviewers tend to be DC as they do it all the time so 'important' interviews are planned out with interview advisors and carried out by DCs (or occasionally a DS).

To ridiculous for words and is not fit to even be in the same sentance as the totally awesome 'Line of Duty' which at least generally gets basic procedure right even if some of it's a bit far fetched!

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/12/2017 19:23

It's a long long way from Line of Duty and Prime Suspect, that's for sure.

squiz81 · 15/12/2017 20:01

Awful, just awful. Im guessing they want to do a 2nd series...i will not be wasting more life watching it.

diddl · 15/12/2017 20:08

You just wonder if any of them read a script first!

MissWimpyDimple · 17/12/2017 21:39

What a crock. I was literally looking for the next episode as I thought that couldn't possibly be the end.

Rubbish

Roomba · 18/12/2017 14:35

I watched this over the weekend after my mother raved about it to me. What a load of crap! Wish I'd read this thread first.

Had to laugh at Fat Robbie Williams though Grin Grin That's exactly what he looks like!

MajesticWhine · 18/12/2017 23:50

I found that very entertaining but disappointed by the ending just leaving you hanging. Annoying.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/12/2017 04:21

I seem to be one of the few that enjoyed it

Tho a little far fetched and extreme

But that’s tv

Am surprised no one checked the camera. It would have been filming while she lay on the floor

And what didn’t she kill/shoot her better. Tho guess rare to survive a head shot

And hubby was dad after a one night shag

Prob will be s2

Son will find his dad and seek revenge

And all coz the wife fancies playing games with her husbands best friend

Littlewhistle · 04/01/2018 15:25

Just watched this - expecting great things but sadly disappointed. Utter shite tbh. Lee Boardman (Fat Robbie Williams) is one of the best baddies around - totally wasted as a bit part cop. Ridiculous relationship between Joe and his mother. Art Malik thinking the sun shines out of Bancroft and she can do no wrong. Silly things like her torching the flat and killing the retired detective........... I could go on and on.

I enjoyed The Ice Cream Girls but this was rubbish - no twist or believable plot. I've never seem Sarah Parish in anything before but I thought she looked like an older Suranne Jones.

Please don't let there be another series.
