Thank you!! I actually watched series’s 1 episode 1 last night out of curiosity to answer my question. So what happened to johns 4 children? Did esme take them on when she married him? And have they gone with her now? They haven’t been mentioned.

Btw, I wouldn’t advise anyone to go back and watch from the start again. Episode 1 blows the recent stuff out of the water. Much better stuff going on back then. Brilliant imagery too. Not sure what has happened but they’ve definitely lost something since then.

I assume Esme took all the kids with her. They were young and when they married she was definitely set up to be their mother

I watched S1 E1 the other night and prefer it to later seasons.

But I did enjoy the bit of backstory about Tommy last night.

Finn Cole is such a good actor for one so young, the scene with his adoptive mum was so tender. It's a challenging part; conflicting allegiances and less of the Brummie showboating to fall back on

Does anyone else think that Tommy and Lizzie together is so random? It doesnt seem like they have a connection but he seems to go back to her every so often...

Yes I thought that came a bit out of the blue too. I always thought he and Lizzie were good friends but nothing more. I know he paid her for sex way back in series 1. Tbh I think he was just using her the other night. He had been reminded of the girl he lived who had died. He took Lizzie to the place he went with that girl. Even Lizzie knew he wasn’t actually wanting her as she asked him “will you be thinking of me or someone else?” I was thinking why didn’t she just tell him to fuck off but maybe she doesn’t really have a choice with tommy. Or maybe she feels she doesn’t. Or maybe she actually loves him and is prepared to accept that he has no interest in her.

I think she knows too much not to be at the family meetings. She has been there from the start. Also I think she is the company treasurer.

She’s also possibly a target as much as the family members are so perhaps safer to keep her in the loop of what they are planning.

That was a board meeting, not a family meeting. She has been in the inner circle of the firm since they started making money with betting shops

Yes only 6 episodes in series 4 but it will be followed by series 5.

Going back to Lizzie, there has always been something more than friendship between them. With stronger feelings on her side admittedly.

At one stage he tells her she stopped his heart from breaking (I can't remember if this was after Grace left him to go to America or after she died).

Also when the Shelby Company ladies walk out of their work to join the women's suffrage demonstration (season 3?) Lizzie complains that Tommy has been bending her over the desk regularly.

Even in the first episode of season 4 I felt that Lizzie was jealous when she heard Tommy asking for prostitutes to be brought to him.

Lizzie also owes Tommy a great deal as he has elevated her from a prostitute to a wealthy business woman.
