9.00 pm tonight, BBC 2.

Who's in?

OP posts:
stella23 · 20/12/2017 22:32

I didn't really get the end, can anyone explain?
The last scenes really with Jessie? Was Tommy passing on names of communist in return for becoming a mp?
Or did he really believe in the what he was doing and the Labour Party?

stella23 · 20/12/2017 22:33

What annoys me is that teh jessie character was played how was she played?

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 20/12/2017 22:37

I think we’re supoosed to assume that tommy is playing both sides. Not sure though.

DontbeaDickaboutit · 20/12/2017 22:51

Stella - I think what we meant was that she sold out on her principles for a man... not entirely flattering portrayal of an iconic woman.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 20/12/2017 22:53

I agree dontbe. She was portrayed as just another of the women overcome with lust at the sight of tommy Shelby. When actually, it’s perfectly believable that a woman might have no interest in him at all and prefer to maintain boundaries with such a scumbag of a man.

TheIntrovertedMum · 20/12/2017 23:02

I came here to talk about how great the show was but I can't see it's been overrun by feminists 🙄👀 I think I'll let myself out.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 20/12/2017 23:03

Grin whatever pleases you!

ToffeeUp · 20/12/2017 23:07

Agree with dontbe and Donny

Guess you haven't read the whole thread then introverted Grin

Samcro · 20/12/2017 23:11

thanks to the people who explained it better than me, I just felt a bit po that she couldn't be a strong woman, she had to end up having sex with TS, although i did lol when Lizzie gave her that look.

Samcro · 20/12/2017 23:13

TheIntrovertedMum
I think most people (women ) who watch this realise its a work of fiction. but enjoy the eye candy.

TheIntrovertedMum · 20/12/2017 23:20

@Samcro I take it all with a pinch of salt tbh and I wish others would too. It's nice to watch tv for a bit of escapism and not analyse everything.

Also the eye candy is 🔥😍

Samcro · 20/12/2017 23:25

i will miss Alfie

TinklyLittleLaugh · 20/12/2017 23:26

It didn't flow very well did it? Bit corny Arthur coming back to life; the final showdown with the Italians was a bit weak; Tommy's breakdown and shagging Jessie Eden and going into politics all felt a bit rushed and sketchy. It was like they shot some nice film, but then cobbled it all together.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 20/12/2017 23:29

Was anyone else a bit baffled by the whole “tommy having a breakdown” thing? Is supposed to be a hint for what is to come? It seemed a bit “wedged in” in this episode. I know they tried to tie it in with tommy doing a deal with Al Capone but the scene itself was a bit weird.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 20/12/2017 23:30

Xpost tinkly yes, cobbled together is right.

stella23 · 20/12/2017 23:31

I'm also a bit baffled why Alfie crossed Tommy, what did he get for it?

Samcro · 20/12/2017 23:32

i thought Alfie got a quick death as apposed to one by cancer

ToffeeUp · 20/12/2017 23:35

I thought it worked quite well, a massive come down after a massive high. It reminded me of Arthur in series 1

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 20/12/2017 23:37

Surely Alfie could have sorted his own quick death without screwing over someone who was a friend and had done nothing to him? I agree, it makes no sense.

DontbeaDickaboutit · 21/12/2017 06:35

I came here to talk about how great the show was but I can't see it's been overrun by feminists 🙄👀 I think I'll let myself out.

Confused

What an odd comment!

Anasnake · 21/12/2017 07:38

I think the breakdown bit was just showing that Tommy has never got over his shell shock. Like when he used to think people were digging through the walls. He couldn't cope in a different environment. Just showing how damaged he is.

ThursdayLastWeek · 21/12/2017 07:39

I was also confused why Alfie crossed the Shelbys. He seemed to be aware that Changretta was the bad guy ‘you’ll kill us all' but bowed to him anyway. I guess he was just resigned to the Americans winning 'big fucks small' and assumed the magic eoukd beat the shelbys.

IIRC series 4&5 were commissioned together. I think the writing for both has overlapped and the speedy series of events in the last 15 mins was just clunky set up for next season.

I also found the seduction of Jessie Eden jarring.

ThursdayLastWeek · 21/12/2017 07:41

Every other episode or so I just come back to the fact that all those young men will be off to France again and all those buildings will be blown to pieces.

It’s such an interesting era that gets overshadowed.

It’s also hard to take the threat of communism in England seriously, looking at it from this side of history.

Oblomov17 · 21/12/2017 08:02

I thought it was brilliant. But also cobbled together. And the scene with Jessie didn't seem quite right? Too rushed? and then like pp, wasn't sure if he really was a labour candidate or whether he was playing both sides.
And I didn't like the look Lizzie gave Jessie. She seemed triumphant, but I don't think he's really with Lizzie for love. I mean he's not really in love with her or anything, is he?

MrsGrindah · 21/12/2017 12:51

Was a bit disappointed. Also can anyone explain who the woman was who turned up waving a white flag? I’ve found a lot of the women look too similar
