That last line... 🤢🤢🤮

First episode I've watched in months! Not a scooby who half the people were but doesn't feel like much has happened. Soon catch up.

Thought things were too quickly resolved tonight. Not the best episode but okay. I bet Lauren will restore the photo from her deleted album or has more than one.

Littlehenrylee · 28/11/2017 00:26

I'm sure Lauren will print out copies of that photo and glue them up on the telegraph poles and of course the outside of the Vic. The result will s surely be a Les Miserables type revolt with the residents of the Square all shouting WB and his brood off the Square for a second time.

Akire · 28/11/2017 00:28

WElcome back Enid don’t worry we are all confused. What I’m stuck in is max was in prison with Luke for something. But the big baddy plot is his fathers idea? Why is he so over invested? Unless going link his prison time back to square somehow.

lottieandmia22 · 28/11/2017 05:46

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but I always felt that in the beginning it was implied that Josh knew about this plan that involved Max? But now he apparently doesn't?

The80sweregreat · 28/11/2017 07:38

I, too, am confused about Josh's involvement over all this - i thought he was in on it as he was at the posh house ( without a block of apartments anywhere near it!) and was praising lauren over her chicken shop speech back in January - which implied that he was all for the big cull of the community and all that. Now, it appears, he doesnt know the half of it! Any other publican would have said no to going on the roof surely? Health and safety and all that? Not Mick, go on up me old chinas! its not as if anyone has ever fell off it before.. oh, hang on..

SoupDragon · 28/11/2017 07:52

JWB's last line was awful! Brilliantly done but awful. The look on Max's face - is he going to turn away from the dark side?

I was distracted by the giant Christmas tree decorations which were bizarre - as a PP said, there is usually a "cough up for the Christmas tree" storyline.

The80sweregreat · 28/11/2017 08:00

i was actually a bit shocked at JWB's line last night - just seemed wrong for a number of reasons. Wasn't impressed! ( i know his a baddie etc etc)

SoupDragon · 28/11/2017 08:19

I think that was exactly the reaction they were going for TBH. It was such a throwaway line on the part of JWB but really awful. More awful than a threat of just harming her actually!

southeastdweller · 28/11/2017 08:20

I liked the Meghan and Harry reference last night. I wonder if they cut another scene to accommodate the new one.

Thymeout · 28/11/2017 10:14

I'm wondering if Phil's old cell-mate is employed by WB to provide the heavies for any intimidation needed to get people to sell up. It was a courtesy call to Phil, local hard man, to tell him that he'd be operating on his former patch. WB wouldn't be doing his own dirty work. Hope he won't be recruiting Kegan.

Littlehenrylee · 28/11/2017 10:25

I was thinking about Karen’s living arrangements. She lives with Keanu (who isn’t supposed to be living there), The girl, Keegan, the twins so the council are officially housing five people. Presumably they have to give the daughter her own bedroom, one for the three boys and one for Karen. If it was a three bedroom house originally, wouldn’t they need to convert one of the rooms or even knock two small rooms together if it was a four bed house to create the kitchen cum living room. But the house itself looks like a small terrace and downstairs the Spams only seem to have a small kitchen, living room and presumably one bedroom. Surely if the upstairs of the house is so big, the downstairs should have two reception rooms and two bedrooms. Unless of course there is an amazing huge open plan kitchen that we never see, taking up all the downstairs space.

SoupDragon · 28/11/2017 10:36

The Taylor's flat has a loft conversion. You can see the stairs in the left in this photo. I think there are two beds plus bathroom and kitchen diner/living on the first floor and one bed in the roof. Keanu sleeps in the dining/living area.

Like most EE properties though, I'm not convinced it stacks up without having a Narnia extension.

The Spams flat has living/kitchen/diner plus one bed and a bathroom which would kind of work if it wasn't for the fact that the living area has a front window and the kitchen area has a back door. I don't think this leaves space for the bedroom or bathroom.

EASTENDERS 20 - NO SPOILERS
SoupDragon · 28/11/2017 10:41

Because I am a saddo, I have worked out the Spam's flat using google images. It does work without Narnia.

I'm still not sure about the Taylor's though.

lottieandmia22 · 28/11/2017 11:41

I felt that the original reason Josh crossed paths with Lauren had something to do with Max. There was a scene where he patted Max on the arm and alluded to a prior conversation.

I think maybe the writers wanted to see how the Josh character was received by the public and have now decided that hes popular and He and Lauren should get together properly. So it now makes more sense to say that he doesn't know much about it.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 28/11/2017 11:51

I agree Lottie the first scene where we saw Josh and Max, Josh was quite menacing saying don't mess up (about the Vic) don't ever tell me what to do, never forget I'm your boss and patting Max on the arm in a sinister way.

Now Josh is all clueless and wouldn't say boo to a goose. This coincided weirdly with ditching his glasses and growing a fluffy beard.. Confused

The80sweregreat · 28/11/2017 14:37

Josh is now ' Joshie' and loves toddlers and is all fluffy and sweet.
The usual personality change they have on EE.

Thymeout · 28/11/2017 15:09

Akire - a 2 bed flat would probably go for close to half a million in a new development, close to Canary Wharf and Stratford Westfield. And that could be an underestimate if it's got luxury facilities. Lots of Chinese/Russian investors happy to shell out. And they're not just going to build on the Vic. The Council is involved, too.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 28/11/2017 15:15

I always wonder what Stacey and Martin's house is worth. Can't remember who owns it but they must be sitting on a gold mine.

Aha ha "Joshie" Grin The fluffy white sheep of the family.

The80sweregreat · 28/11/2017 15:35

I think that Janine owns the Fowler's house, Patttt lived there before that? not really sure, but i am sure she was involved with its purchase.

My brother was married in 1973 and bought a house in stratford for 4k!!! he sold it on a few years later, would be worth a fortune now of course. only a two up two down. I dread to think what prices are like now - essex is bad enough and thats a long way out from london ( where i am anyway).

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 28/11/2017 15:48

Ah Janine. Hopefully she'll come back to sell up in a ruthless manner.

Those who invested in London property years ago must be minted now.
London will eventually end up as a place for the very wealthy I guess. Although East Enders wouldn't be much fun if it was just a load of toffs and city bankers wandering about. Wink

The80sweregreat · 28/11/2017 15:52

My brother moved back to Essex. Bad move really as regards prices of homes! It is ridiculous the prices these days though. Eye watering in London.
Even if they give Max a big discount, it will still be loads? He must be earning a big salary with weyland.

Littlehenrylee · 28/11/2017 16:05

4K was probably a fortune back then too though. It is all relative. My father bought a house 50 years ago for 80 pounds (Not in a city) and paid way more than it’s asking price to get it! It is all relative I suppose. But in reality nearly all the families in EE would be living far outside the city and commuting.

The80sweregreat · 28/11/2017 16:09

Yes. It wasn’t easy for them. Just seemed easier than it is today though! They were not big earners either. None of the lot in EE could afford to live there ( as you say) maybe Ian would as he has businesses. Or he did have more than one once! Stacey n Martin would be forced out by cost of living.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 28/11/2017 16:19

I read somewhere that if bread went up in price as much as housing has, then a loaf bought in the 70's for 9p would now cost £150 now!

The crazy inflation of housing prices is totally out of proportion to anything else.

I think we can go along with the fairly unlikely set up of characters affording to live in Albert Square but this Weyland story is sort of highlighting the fact that all the properties are worth fortunes.

southeastdweller · 28/11/2017 17:09

Yes it’s a very pertinent issue and I do think the Weyland story is the only decent story SOC approved in his tenure. But it very much needs wrapping up soon.
