Who else would know about car lot? Grant? Why would jay keep land or money now after that? To lose one parent before teens is bad enough but three! Ok so keeping eye on paper back in the day ok, but then a new bloke on scene comes back to

Just stopping by a bit late in the day to say that the derelict car lot that Jay went for a wee angsty wander round was the cleanest bit of London that I've ever seen. Nothing to do with the plot, it just really really annoyed me.

I was confused at that and how 20min chat went from bright sunshine to pitch darkness outside. I thought he was at car lot but hard to tell what was (small tv) but wasn't any burnt out cars in it

I just don't understand why they're trying to make a story out of two seemingly unconnected events, one from 23 years ago and the other 9. Just seems a bit weird.

They are not trying to connect the car lot being torched by Phil and the death of Jase ( who Jay thinks is his dad) - someone is blackmailing Phil to make that connection seem real - to make Jay think that was his dad that died in the car lot before his mum gave birth to him in 94 ( making jay 23, which does fit) so that he will sell the car lot - i only thing i can think is that Max ( or Big) has told Phil that if he doesnt do this, they will have him put away for the murder of the bloke who was in the car lot. I;ve not explained it very well ( and i dont know if thats right ) but its obvious now that Phil is lying and none of it is true anyway, its just that Jay thinks it true. This will make Ben and possibly Sharon turn against him too ( same as Lauren and Abi did with Max) and make Phil an outcast. Jay will believe he murdered his 'real' dad and hate him too - weyland end up with the land to build flats or shops or whatever. Why they are offering over the odds for the land is a mystery though. thats my theory anyway.

That makes total sense! I'd thought that Weyland were behind it but hadn't quite made sense of why etc.

I hope Vincent works out it was Max who set him up with drugs and kicks his butt.

The way things are going , Max is possibly making big enemies here - Vincent and Phil. Two gangster types, who previously hated each other, but could easily become 'friends' in order to run max out of town ( once they realise what is going on with Big and weyland)
Splitting up the Mitchells is never a good idea. They always get their revenge. Its always about the fammilly with them.

But what exactly is it that Max has against Phil, he wasn't around 23 years ago. Could Phil not just deny any involvement in the arson/death of tramp? How could they prove anything? Frank isn't around to be witness.
Also, why can't Wheyland buy the car lot directly off Phil, why involve poor Jay? An I missing something or is that part of the mystery?!

And, my phone wants to change 'carlot' as one word into 'Carlos' – maybe a key witness who could shed some light into this? Arf...

Good theory there, The80s but ... wouldn't it be simpler for Weyland/Max/Big to blackmail Phil directly "If you don't sell us the car lot we'll reveal that you killed someone in the fire there"? And who knows whether Jay will want to sell the car lot because there's a lot of money on offer or want to hold onto it as some sort of shrine to his dead father? I can't remember when a soap plot has had me more confused!

He's already turned down an anonymous offer because of some kind of unlikely moral crisis with making money from selling it given the history.

Who knew Phil torched the car lot? It was during a time I didn't watch it so I don't know it at all. Clearly Frank Butcher knew but who Else?

Ah yes, thanks for reminding me of Phil bribing the jury. It was in the days of him and Ian being on cuddly terms, wasn't it.

I thought the actor who plays Jay was very good.

To be honest, I don't think I care too much what kind of turn the story will take, as long as we're not being fobbed off and put on hold, like with Linda's very secret secret.

I'd like to see Vincent kicking Max's butt, it could happen in the strategically placed flowerbeds of The Square, backdrop being the strategically placed tall building that never used to be there before but actually has been there since the 60s... (like some strange Dr Who cross-over)

This all seems to be getting over complicated. I stopped eatcjing a couple of weeks ago and was keeping up by reading this thread but can't make sense of it anymore. It is getting a bit like Lost (if anyone remembers that?) when the writers just kept adding bits onto it and when it was finally over, they stated there wasn't an end storyline in sight at all, they just kept it moving along knowing it didn't and would never make any sense.

Unless Mr Big knew about the car lot being torched because he knew the Butchers and Peggy back in the day..he has this on Phil and only just decided to get back at him! Who knows. Its a mystery. But I bet max is behind all this confusion. Weyland wants to run the square it seems.

I was wondering why Jay and Phil kept going outside then coming back in the house again. Realised it was probably so they didn't have to remember so many lines in one take! The outside shots were probably filmed another day. I clearly have too much time to think about these things...
