Is anyone watching on channel 4?

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 16/08/2017 00:59

Not too keen on Fabio's mum. Tomorrow will be interesting. It seems fitting that it would be her who accuses.

CitrusSun · 16/08/2017 01:21

Can't watch it, those poor kids, think it should be taken off TV

Potsandpuns · 16/08/2017 07:06

I went to school with Oscars mum. She's been out of hospital for a while and doing much better.

They are a really lovely couple and not pushy at all.

fatowl · 16/08/2017 08:04

That's good to hear pots, thanks

user8526831517 · 16/08/2017 08:11

That's lovely to hear, oscar and his family seem so lovely unlike Susan

Therealslimshady1 · 16/08/2017 08:14

Can't watch this. DH is a secondary school teacher, and so many teenagers suffer with stress and anxiety, he deals with a lot of self harm, even suicide attempts, or just kids sobbing in the corridors as they are crumbling under the pressure. He and his colleagues/friends say the pressure usually comes from the parents and that pushy parents cause lots of psychological damage.... so sad, and unnecessary.

The title of the program is misleading, these poor kids are not genii, they are just very good at book learning and memorising. A useful skill at school, but it does not measure intelligence or creativity, let alone if a kid is a "genius"

Ceto · 16/08/2017 08:53

I loved Oscar's very honest and accurate take on politicians.

cricketballs · 16/08/2017 13:25

C4 tweeted that Oscar's mum is ok now

FreedaDonkey · 16/08/2017 19:05

Some of these parents are ShockShock

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 16/08/2017 20:05

Why are we always seeing the same families? I'm sick of bloody Fabio's mum, and Rahul's dad.

JiminnyCricket · 16/08/2017 20:09

I'm worried for Sophie, she seems withdrawn Sad

user9512736123 · 16/08/2017 20:13

Sophie does seem very anxious, poor girl. I hate the pressure that the education system puts on children as it is and she's struggling with this extra pressure I think.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 16/08/2017 20:24

Who does she think is cheating ?

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 16/08/2017 20:29

If her accusations are wrong, they should be thrown out!

Another pair of siblings pitted against each other. Bloody awful to see the gleeful smirk on the older girl's face when her younger sister got one wrong. Surprise surprise. Another case of a mother who feels she failed so will push her kids into living the life she feels she should have done.

I can't help but watch but seeing these kids crumble is awful, this show should really be banned as it just gives these parents a platform and others encourages pushy parents to get their kids in this competition.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 16/08/2017 20:31

Susan isn't happy. Right sneer on her face, probably because she couldn't get a competator thrown out.

How is revising stuff like this a sign of being a genius?

quencher · 16/08/2017 20:57

That sibling rivalry with Sophia is not healthy. I can see them being nct in the future with each other.

CremeFresh · 16/08/2017 21:05

Fabio's mum is awful

2rebecca · 16/08/2017 23:38

I definitely think siblings shouldn't be allowed. It isn't good for the family as a whole, different if they are twins I suppose and both want to do it but different aged sibs shouldn't be allowed at the same time, it's car crash telly which isn't fair on young kids.
Really hate the parents wanting to succeed via their kids. Go to night school or study with the OU FFS. If kids do 5 hours studying at night after school they're going to have had enough of studying before they are 16, let alone doing a degree. It's illogical to hothouse a small kid just because an adult chose to drop out of her degree.

Therealslimshady1 · 17/08/2017 07:42

It is illogical

The whole set up is awful

Ceto · 17/08/2017 08:09

Three out of six test so far have involved the children simply regurgitating something pointless that they have just spent an hour memorising. I think they get given the spellings to memorise as well, don't they? I really don't understand how having a good short-term memory makes anyone a genius.

BertrandRussell · 17/08/2017 08:13

It's all about memory. Apart from the maths.

Basically it's a glorified pub quiz.

cowgirlsareforever · 17/08/2017 08:17

None of the parents appear to have been successful themselves.

Showandtell · 17/08/2017 08:20

We watched some of the first one. It's so boring!!

WindwardCircle · 17/08/2017 08:58

I saw this for the first time last night. It's really not much of a test of anything other than memory skills and intensive coaching as far as I can see. I reckon if you took any fairly academic child with a good memory and subjugated them to hothouse coaching for a year or so they'd be at the standard most of these kids are. Whether that's a good thing to do to a child is quite another question.

Androidsdreamofelectricsheep · 17/08/2017 11:47

I'd love to see a 'where are they now?' programme in thee future. Some of them will be completely turned off learning by all this.
