Is anyone watching on channel 4?

OP posts:
BertrandRussell · 15/08/2017 13:08

If people didn't watch it they wouldn't make it. And it was totally cynical to put Richard Osman in to try and make it more touchy-feely.

But people like watching car crash telly................

LemonadeWithACherry · 15/08/2017 14:21

I agree that this doesn't test real intelligence. The children are hot-housed into remembering things.

I was also disgusted that none of the geniuses had been taught the correct pronunciation of the letter H Angry

Androidsdreamofelectricsheep · 15/08/2017 16:01

Lemonade I noticed that too. Haitch is one of my pet hates.
Oscar had pestered his parents to let him take part and was in charge of his own revision, so one of the more 'natural' contestants. I don't suppose there was anything he could do to help his Mum, so his Dad probably thought that if he wanted to carry on he should. From the interview it seems unlikely either parent would have 'made' him take part. I am glad he got through.

seasidesally · 15/08/2017 16:49

anybody else wondering what the matter with Oscars mum is,admit nosey and not very relevant to this thread Blush

Davros · 15/08/2017 18:10

Yes, me too Blush

Ceto · 15/08/2017 18:41

I really think they shouldn't accept siblings - it's clearly done because they think it makes good TV, but it introduces an extra layer of stress which no child needs.

user7841794168 · 15/08/2017 18:44

I couldn't help but laugh at Minesh's statement - "I used to play table tennis for Barnet Council"

Maybe I am mean but he's not Mo Farah is he?

2rebecca · 15/08/2017 20:24

From 3 months he was doing jigsaws!? The proxy glory of the parents is cringy

seasidesally · 15/08/2017 20:26

ha ha i raised an eyebrow with the jigsaw comment

seasidesally · 15/08/2017 20:27

glad that joshua has the lead seems more grounded than some others

fatowl · 15/08/2017 20:32

I'm liking joshua as well, seems quite balanced.
Aliya's mum was all about her "I want to prove that I've been a good mother" etc
Rahul (Sp?)'s dad was NOT happy about not winning that round

2rebecca · 15/08/2017 20:33

I think if a kid can't cope with coming second in the early rounds where second is good enough they shouldn't really be there. Sad Oscar has gone but although he's bright and motivated it's not surprising his mums illness has affected him

2rebecca · 15/08/2017 20:34

I really don't see the point of this next one. Photographic memories aren't that helpful in real life

fatowl · 15/08/2017 20:35

Oscar needed to go, and I'm glad his dad took him, he needed to be with his mum/dad at a time like that

LetZygonsbeZygones · 15/08/2017 20:37

Poor Rahul. The amount of pressure he is under. And Aliyah. It's insane

quencher · 15/08/2017 20:37

What excuse did that woman give for favouring the younger brother? Apparently, the Dd wins everything. She has trophies from sports and other competitions and the younger brother has none. She is just routing for him to win something.

I am watching it and love choose like this for motivation.

LoyaltyAndLobster · 15/08/2017 20:37

I am routing for Fabio to win.

quencher · 15/08/2017 20:38

I didn't know it was on now. Off to watch.

seasidesally · 15/08/2017 20:41

its on every night this week, monday -friday i think

seasidesally · 15/08/2017 20:43

some of the parents are very negative when their child dosent do well

can understand why some of the kids show the same reaction now

quencher · 15/08/2017 20:44

I love Rahul's name. It sounds amazing.

user7841794168 · 15/08/2017 20:45

I get why she wants Fabio to win but did you see how it was making the girl feel? She seems to feel like her mother loves her less than her already because the mother is going so OTT on wanting her to be beaten by her brother.

CatherineCawood · 15/08/2017 20:48

I've messed up thought it was on at 9pm!!! Doh! Will have to watch it after Trust Me.

user7841794168 · 15/08/2017 20:50

Catherine I've recorded it so shout out when you are watching it if you want.

from your friendly MN stalker

2rebecca · 15/08/2017 20:50

I don't want Fabio to win. I think if my parents had put my sister and I in for something like that and my little sister beat me I'd have resented her and my parents if they favoured her for a long time
