Anyone else watching this catch-up on a Castaway/10,000 years BC/The Island type show set in remote Scotland.

Partially broadcast a year or two ago, C4 stopped showing it before the group of 23 started to fall apart.

Shocking stuff, with overt sexism, bullying, aggression and violence.

Enlightening just how quickly how the 'emotionally intelligent' generation disintegrates and revert to basic role models.

Most of the women have walked out already due to bullying and sexism by various, Tobys, Ollys, Robs and Sams led by a bitter plumber.

Stark reminder how far humans haven't travelled and how quickly we can go back.

On again tonight.

I found it interesting as I cycled past the boundary on holiday last autumn. I hadn't realised there was a series and watched the first 4 when I returned home. The fenced in area was very small. They must have ventured out to go hunting as they talked about hills and the fenced in area wasn't hilly. There was just a small portacabin and lots of satellite dishes outside. It's next to a popular walk to the Singing Sands and just a few miles from Acharacle.

RudeDog · 11/08/2017 23:41

I don't think she 'knew' @2rebecca maybe prearranged - which is why it hadn't gotten picked up promptly

RudeDog · 11/08/2017 23:41

I think she only found out because she was told about it

2rebecca · 12/08/2017 00:12

She was still OTT getting hysterically weepy about something that she wasn't entitled to any way. I suspect she was drunk. Much of the conflict was alcohol fueled

cushioncovers · 12/08/2017 08:02

I suppose they're stuck with the applicants they get who will include a lot of oddballs who can easily take a year out as they have no proper job or attachments, the unemployed and unemployable, and people who want a deserted island to be a hermit not live in a claustrophobic commune

Yep I agree

cushioncovers · 12/08/2017 08:14

Just watching last episode now. Finding Katie's whining about how horrible people are a bit Annoying. She seems naive to me. Surely she has come across or had to work with people who are utter shits? There are plenty of them all around. Her and Rob seem a bit delicate imo

MissMoneyPlant · 12/08/2017 13:54

thelonelyhamster I really wish the idea of 'voting people off' hadn't taken hold in reality tv so strongly. You can't just vote people out of life, it shouldn't be so prevalent on tv.

I agree it's a reality TV thing that has taken hold where it would be more interesting not to be allowed to do that. But people do do similar in real life. It's not so obvious in this day and age, as we don't live in tight-knit communities, but once upon a time being outcast from you community/village/tribe would have likely been a death sentence, because a lone human is very vulnerable "in the wild". (As an aside, I wonder if the basic desperation to survive in Bear Grylls island reduces the chance of people trying to "go it alone"?) But it happens now - those who are vulnerable, or a bit different, or just fall foul of manipulative people, get cut out of social groups, or never really allowed to be part of these little "communites".

I watched the third episode where Anton and Raph are voted off, in horror, but also thinking "this is a perfect example of a dynamic I loathe in humans but struggle to explain". Gaslighting in a group situation. Lying about plans to provoke the situation when Anton knew they were lying, but they present a united front going along with the lie and pretending reality was different. This is a serious headfuck for the person being gaslit, and personally I think it's at the root of most human problems. Seeing people as "other", going along with who's popular, not thinking about what's true or fair.

I agree with the PP who suggested some older women would have helped - the experience of navigating a lifetime full of male egos, being a diplomat, would have been helpful.

Also, was anyone else hoping the ignorant plumber dickhead would get ill from drinking contaminated water?

2rebecca · 12/08/2017 15:05

I was wondering why the sensible group of 6 didn't outvote the valley boy group of 4 on stuff like Anton and splitting the rations. I then looked at the contestants and realised that that's because 4 of the 6 were embedded crew so not really contestants and maybe not voting properly. Really only 6 finished. The 4 valley boys Katie and Josie. Josie seemed overly keen in getting rid of Anton though, I'm not sure why.

Littlelouse · 12/08/2017 15:16

I don't think you can say that the embedded crew weren't a proper part of the community and therefore didn't actually 'complete' the year. Jane commented on the fact that she felt she needed to be somewhat impartial but I don't think the same can be said for Oli, for example.

Besides, they still voted in the Anton/ Raph situation so they did have a say.

MadamePomfrey · 12/08/2017 15:44

The embedded crew did get a vote it was ollies idea and he seemed to be leading it. I guess it was up to them how involved they got with giving opinions ect. I think the thing with antone is no one stood up for him cause They were included in the group uniting against him once he want they turned on each other! Although hearing now they had contraband a phones and trips to the pub it all seems pointless to be it also invalidates their excuse that the sexest homophobic behaviour only happened because they were so cut off and isolated in my opinion

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 13/08/2017 09:40

A PP earlier said chef Stephen seemed ok,he was in fact the first of them to get into bother last year when he said something vile to Katie, can't remember what it was but it was enough to make vet Rob nearly punch him.

Glen was the worst for me,something very unsettling about him.

I wasn't convinced the valley boys weren't in some homosexual crisis and actually just wanted to shag each other Hmm

Nellyphants · 13/08/2017 09:58

Anyone read the daily fail article where Glenn says Katie was 2 faced? She laughed & joked with them then bitched to camera?

MineKraftCheese · 13/08/2017 10:00

Hahahahaha like you can believe a word Glen says

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 13/08/2017 10:01

Have you got a link to that please?

Nellyphants · 13/08/2017 10:32

I don't believe him Mine. It's just the daily fail trying to be controversial

MineKraftCheese · 13/08/2017 10:34

Oh good Nelly! Think I misread your tone Smile

RudeDog · 13/08/2017 10:58

He said some terrible things to the camera - nothing to do with her

abigailgabble · 13/08/2017 15:04

Glenn has definitely found his level, talking to the choir of misogynists daily mail 👌🏼

cushioncovers · 13/08/2017 15:34

Glen was the worst for me,something very unsettling about him.

Agree completely. I think he would fit the roll of Negan in TWD if an apocalypse of any sort happened.
He had a wild look in his eyes. Scary

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 13/08/2017 18:21

Thanks for the link. He did have a wild look, he seemed really unpredictable to me. Titch was just a shifty, manipulative little fucker but Glen gave me the shivers and not in a good way!

MissMoneyPlant · 14/08/2017 02:40

Ugh. The "valley boys" are just basically the type of dickhead who've screwed up the world, aren't they? Cruel, greedy, evil men.

MissMoneyPlant · 14/08/2017 03:02

And the way they moan on, and re-write history - sounds just like abusive men after relationship breakdown.

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 03/09/2017 23:05

I know I'm a bit late to this thread but I just watched it on catch up and fucking hell it was scary!

That kind of psychotic behaviour is really chilling. I think I missed a bit though. Was the cottage fire at the end an accident or did someone deliberately burn it down?

MadamePomfrey · 03/09/2017 23:31

An accident from what they said
