Eden - Paradise Lost 10pm C4 - Every Night this week

Anyone else watching this catch-up on a Castaway/10,000 years BC/The Island type show set in remote Scotland.

Partially broadcast a year or two ago, C4 stopped showing it before the group of 23 started to fall apart.

Shocking stuff, with overt sexism, bullying, aggression and violence.

Enlightening just how quickly how the 'emotionally intelligent' generation disintegrates and revert to basic role models.

Most of the women have walked out already due to bullying and sexism by various, Tobys, Ollys, Robs and Sams led by a bitter plumber.

Stark reminder how far humans haven't travelled and how quickly we can go back.

On again tonight.

Yes we're learning a lot about scapegoats and herd mentality in Anton's treatment here - how far people will compromise their integrity in order to belong and not be "other."

The conversation about goading someone into violence using alcohol, followed by the outrage when they were called out on it was astonishing. I've seen things like this play out many times when people are under pressure - setting someone up to fail and then being mock-horrified when they do.

Also sickened by the about-face of the younger herd-men suddenly "protecting" the women at a small mention of being afraid of Anton.

I think Anton is handling himself admirably.

oneplus2is3 · 09/08/2017 22:53

This is so uncomfortable to watch. Systematic bullying but the core group. The pack is getting small- they'll have no choice but to turn on each other now that they have picked off the outer circle. Horrible!

Burn it all Anton and Ralph!!!!

Themostannoyingperson · 09/08/2017 22:57

The Chef seems decent. I wonder why a kinder faction hasn't started up.

Shitalopram · 09/08/2017 22:58

The men left behind all bleating about the house being destroyed probably have no idea what sheep they sound

cushioncovers · 09/08/2017 23:00

Oops Anton just realised he burnt his house for nothing

cushioncovers · 09/08/2017 23:02

Now they don't have Anton to blame for everything it will be interesting to see how it goes.

MineKraftCheese · 09/08/2017 23:02

I hate Oli so much I hate him argh his smug fucking face. Hope the chef cooks them all

fourquenelles · 09/08/2017 23:02

Oli still minimising "I made a small mistake". No, you made a massive error.

StereophonicallyChallenged · 09/08/2017 23:05

I can't decide which one I dislike the most! Even the remaining women are disappointing.

Nowdecide · 09/08/2017 23:07

'A small mistake' that was unbelievable. I didn't see it all but even I could see it was a massive fuck-up but the numbers didn't matter did they? They'd made their minds up. Nasty.

Why are they all (most) so posh?

Where are the normal people? And the grown-ups?!
Or is it meant to be Lord of the Flies?

ForestDad · 09/08/2017 23:10

+1 to people complaining that a group of people were taking over but not forming a counter group to oppose.

+1 to poor Anton, what a load of absolute non-self-aware idiots.
Surely a measure of success for a project like this is as many people making it to the end as possible - there were no goals or any real idea of what to prioritise to achieve it.
I think that the fact that our state has essentially been "good" to the people for living memory (versus say Spain with recent history of Franco) means that people don't have much of an idea of what is important in a society from the ground up.
We should teach politics in school but I'm not sure that that would go far enough, people don't really understand hardship so when they are in a hard situation they don't know what to do.

lily219 · 09/08/2017 23:12

I don't think Oli regrets his 'mistake' at all. In fact, I think he's probably quite proud of himself. Horrible stirrer.

Nowdecide · 09/08/2017 23:13

I agree Lily - he looked quite pleased with himself. Ugh.

lily219 · 09/08/2017 23:14

It would be great to have some 'grown-ups' in there. For a start, they'd realise the garden is really important - and they'd be good at it!

Nowdecide · 09/08/2017 23:19

Was it deliberate to have such a flat age profile? Maybe it would have spoiled the 'good telly' to have more experience and wisdom in the mix ( we're all wise us over45s, nach, look at Trump) Grin.

Themostannoyingperson · 09/08/2017 23:20

What's with the constant smirk that Ollie and the student Rob have. What on earth do they think they have achieved?
Anton has been quite impressive with his handling of the whole thing. A lesser person me would have burnt the whole bloody place down.

lily219 · 09/08/2017 23:23

Aaaargh! Nowdecide - can you imagine being stuck in there with Donald Trump? We'd all be throwing ourselves into the sea or onto the fire. ..

Littlelouse · 09/08/2017 23:24

Watched the four episodes they released last year and agree with everything you've said upthread. I do wonder why they have seemingly ignored the relationships formed between the men and women?

From what I remember from last year, there were 3 or 4 couples. The Vet (can't remember his name) and the shepherdess (who seems totally absent this time around) being one of them.

lily219 · 09/08/2017 23:25

Oli and Rob are big children who think they've 'won'. They have no idea about working as a team for the good of the group.

CatsOnMyLap · 09/08/2017 23:25

What happened with Ollie making a mistake with the vote? I couldn't quite follow what happened there

Fantasticmissfoxy · 09/08/2017 23:26

Oli came across as a vile manipulative little shit - leading on and using Rachael and pretending he was straight with her (toying with her emotions) and antagonising the group into getting rid of poor Anton.
Anton was far from perfect but he only separated himself from the group when they refused to listen to his (totally correct) advice that they needed to build a winter camp away from the beach.

Nowdecide · 09/08/2017 23:26

. . . Or him! He looks as if he's never far away from spontaneous combustion. One match near that thatch . . .

He'd fettle Oli though.

lily219 · 09/08/2017 23:31

CatsOnMyLap - they needed 75% to carry a vote. 12 people voted so with 9 voting Anton out, they thought they'd got 75%. But Oli didn't take into account that they'd not given Anton and Raph votes. There were 14 in the whole group so 9 votes was not the 75% needed.

lily219 · 09/08/2017 23:34

'One match near that thatch'! Brilliant!

cushioncovers · 09/08/2017 23:34

But isn't 9 out of 12 = 75%. Surely Anton and Ralph couldn't vote anyway as the vote was about them?
