Is anyone watching this? The second landlord with his disgustingly extravagant lifestyle is making me so angry. The communal areas in his flats are horrific.

What in the name of sanity is the point of coming onto this thread and talking about people making your spare house mucky? Genuine question. What point are you making?

NeverTwerkNaked · 06/07/2017 21:49

Not me justdance. I am just constantly astonished and disappointed in residential landlords (I work in the property industry so have a professional perspective on this)

Whoever put a door to cover up the boiler clearly didn't have a clue. It meant that half of the boiler was inaccessible so it's going to have to be ripped off again when the annual gas safety check is done!

Was it not a full length door?

CurlsandCurves · 08/07/2017 15:24

Nope. It looks like the size you might use for an under stairs cupboard, so not the full height of the wall.

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 08/07/2017 17:31

Ah ok. Thank you.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/07/2017 22:01

just watching first episode now, only read comments as far as ive seen iyswim

father/son seem nice and son shocked how linda lives, that mould is disgraceful and why didnt they give her a tenancy agreement when they took over

where as paul and gf (with the silly eyebrows) dont seem that bothered :(

tho havnt seen the end of e1 yet

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/07/2017 23:19

ok seen all of e1 and wow at lindas new flat, not sure why dad thinks she wouldnt look after it

tbh if linda cant afford a 2 bed flat, she needs to move, she can still stay local to see her family, or not have them all round and cook tea for them all lots, unless they pay towards the food

least paul did try to do something with the huse share, he did the light, cleaned up and improved the kitchen and garden etc and thought nice he was going to pay for a meal fr them all to meet

now e2- sure man could have put a bedroom door on and if friends staying sure they wouldnt peep at him through the door-we often sleep with bedroom door open if guests stay

and the boiler was a health hazard, and the peeling paint from tiles Shock

There are a couple of threads on property tribes about this - the programme makers asked for participants there and some responded. Those with one property were refused, as were others who didn't fit the crap multi property landlord profile. So the programme is preselected for bad landlords. And stupid ones as it was obvious they would be exposed as such!

Those with non paying or wrecking tenants were also not selected to take part.

A lot doesn't make sense either. The wonderboys cannot have made all that money just from the 'empire' shown. Those fixes to Linda's flat weren't done in a week, major works. The gas hob with half not working is a gas safe fail and hence a crime.

At least it has got a couple of bad properties fixed. That shared electric meter should be grounds for prosecution, even the most clueless ' I employ a contractor ' landlord would know that was wrong. That landlord was not what he seemed, and to let his gormless teenager take over - no-one is that stupid.

They were buying stocks and shares from a very young age and started making money whilst still at school. I got the impression they were about 13 when it started.

specialsubject · 09/07/2017 14:52

Ah, that would explain it. Thanks.

Clearly they are better at that than being landlords!

MeanAger · 09/07/2017 15:02

I would love to know how these young teenagers get so rich off the stock market.

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 09/07/2017 15:09

They didn't. The point is they were making money from an early age and went into property on the back of it.

The80sweregreat · 10/07/2017 11:27

The young guy who said that walking around was free - he came from a very poor upbringing - i was wondering how he got the money together to buy his first place, but sometimes it could be family helping out maybe? It would be nice if they shared the secret of their success, not all houses are mega cheap and havent been for a long time as well, they are too young to have bought in the 70s or 80s. or maybe the places were passed on or something? I really do not know.

NotYoda · 10/07/2017 16:08

NeverTwerkNaked

I agree. Landlords have the choice to be in this 'business' or not.

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 10/07/2017 18:18

The young guy who said that walking around was free

I think it was the older guy in the last episode who said that.

Unihorn · 11/07/2017 15:05

Just watched episode 2 and I feel as though I've watched both in some kind of fascinated horror at some of the comments the landlords have made. The landlord in episode 2 particularly got me when he said the Indian dad was making an average wage so should've been bringing in a few thousand so how did he only have £90 a week to live off... It baffles me when people who say they started with nothing and "built an empire" seem to quickly forget what it was like, and appear to lack in basic empathy. How odd to place decisions about peoples' wellbeing in the hands of an 18 year old!

I will say we've private rented for 5 years and always deal directly with the landlord with few issues. We've been lucky in that we've normally only rented off people who own one or two properties so seem to genuinely care. The past two properties we've lived in have previously belonged to our landlords as their own homes so that has probably made a difference.

Thisarmingman · 12/07/2017 18:31

Yes the lack of awareness is striking. Also - landlord knows how much the rent is. So should be able to work out how how much is left over from a few thousand after he's pocketed his unearned wodge.

specialsubject · 12/07/2017 20:58

Ah yes, the old unearned money thing. Because property is given away free to landlords.

Don't worry though, the revenue agree with you. And the filthiest work I have ever done was cleaning out my rental after the tenant triple treat. Unearned.

Thisarmingman · 12/07/2017 21:01

What did the guy on the programme do to earn his money then?

Thisarmingman · 12/07/2017 21:04

Prior to painting over the mould, that is. I'd like to see my boss if I sent her an invoice for a year's worth of rent for painting over mould anyway. I mean, it's not exactly what you'd call grafting.

Unihorn · 12/07/2017 21:05

I can already see that this guy is going to be the fucking worst.

dillite · 12/07/2017 21:09

For someone who earns that much money they can't afford a dining table?

dillite · 12/07/2017 21:10

Or a pair of trousers that fit him properly.

Unihorn · 12/07/2017 21:12

He's giving me the rage. Admittedly I'm not a devout Christian, but I'm fairly certain his values and those of the Church don't align particularly well.
