Poldark's on the horizon (looking broodingly out to sea...)

So, only a matter of a few weeks left before we can all, once more, immerse ourselves in the societal & economic dynamics of 18th century rural Cornwall perve at Aiden Turner's snug breeches and clenched jawline

Anyone else excited??? Am really going to make a vair serious effort to actually pay attention to the plot this time - it's something to do with tin mining, I think [hesitant]

And it was Caroline that got on and did it by herself, I don't remember anyone else being involved, just that she'd busied herself in Dwight's absence by pestering the wealthy and buying grain to sell cheaply.

Yes this George is a twat. Book George is far more complex. I know, I sound like a stuck record...

Jumping to the final page to comment on Demelza's football baby bump. Amazing to have got to full term with a full corset/bodice and without recourse to an empire line dress. Hmm

LilaBard · 03/07/2017 15:45

AIBU to be v jealous of Carolines horse's lovely mane in last nights ep? I have never got hair envy from an animal before

beguilingeyes · 03/07/2017 17:05

No Jud at the christening wondering why they'd called the child Clarence. The roads thing was glossed over too.

ShelaghTurner · 03/07/2017 17:18

Aw... Clarence...

ElspethFlashman · 03/07/2017 18:07

Demelza had her figure back by the christening too, which was remarkable considering how quickly they were done. She just snapped back!😂

SoupDragon · 03/07/2017 18:27

To be fair, she only put on bump anyway. Like a watermelon strapped to her front.

SoupDragon · 03/07/2017 18:28

I had to google the name. What sort of name is Clowance??

beguilingeyes · 03/07/2017 20:00

toads the toads thing wasn't really explained.

ShelaghTurner · 03/07/2017 20:01

The roads aren't finished. They'll be back Grin

ShelaghTurner · 03/07/2017 20:01

Toads FFS

beguilingeyes · 03/07/2017 23:21

It just seems like Poldark for Dummies. There's no nuance and the audience is hit over the head with everything in case they don't get it. Demelza can deliver a baby on her own now? Sam is way too surly and Elizabeth is cartoon character evil.

ShelaghTurner · 04/07/2017 07:01

I'm losing track of who here is familiar with the story and who isn't so apologies if my replies sometimes state the bleeding obvious...

Yes that's a good way of looking at it. It's not making the audience work. At all.

woodhill · 04/07/2017 13:30

I just watched the previous episode which was good. I think GW is a good actor but Ralph Bates seemed to be better cast for the part look wise.

I love the fact Robin Ellis is in it.

What strikes me watching this is how lucky we are to have our freedom of speech and to do as we please within limits. Some other places in the world still operate like the society of Poldark.

Inkanta · 04/07/2017 13:54

Finding it hard to care or take it seriously now. Elizabeth is now a pantomime villain with George. Morwenna gets set up to marry an over the top creep. The French shot the man just as the doctor says he will survive. The starving poor are shot for scavenging food. Demelza says Morwenna can't go out with her brother ..

And why did Poldark have to wind up George - telling him he was trespassing. Setting himself up for more punishment.

Getting tedious!

ElspethFlashman · 04/07/2017 14:02

Cos Ross is just a dick. I was Angry when he was asked to bring Demelza some soup in bed and he snarkily called her "your ladyship". Shut the fuck up Ross.

Their marriage is really really shit now. She keeps her mouth shut and he ignores her unless he wants his leg over.

SoupDragon · 04/07/2017 14:26

I thought the lady ship thing was friendly banter.

beguilingeyes · 10/07/2017 08:05

George is becoming more ridiculous by the week. And a failed landing in France is known immediately at a society party in Cornwall? It would've taken weeks for the news to get there. Did they get a text message?

ElspethFlashman · 10/07/2017 08:36

Oh I actually completely forgot it was on.......not a good sign.

SoupDragon · 10/07/2017 10:02

I cant take George seriously as I remember the actor in Blandings where he was playing a comedic dippy upper class twit.

Lollyb86 · 10/07/2017 13:45

I'm maybe on my own but I'm still really enjoying the series. I read all 12 books back to back before series 3 started so I know the story and what's been missed or changed but I don't mind 😁 it would be nice if some areas weren't quite so glossed over and sometimes the pacing of things is off but on the whole I am still sticking with it. Brew

ludog · 10/07/2017 23:31

It's like the actors are playing "dress up in the olden days clothes" and haven't bothered to read a history book, let alone the Poldark books. It's really annoying me how inauthentic it is for the period it's supposedly set in.

SoupDragon · 11/07/2017 07:13

I am enjoying it despite its flaws. It's perfect Sunday night tv fodder.

Thesingingtoad · 11/07/2017 11:03

Does anyone else think the BBC wanted series 3 rushed out so it didn't clash with Queen Victoria on ITV, that its all a little bit crap!

SapphireStrange · 11/07/2017 12:52

It was definitely intended not to clash with Victoria, yes, after it suffered last time.
