So, only a matter of a few weeks left before we can all, once more, immerse ourselves in the societal & economic dynamics of 18th century rural Cornwall perve at Aiden Turner's snug breeches and clenched jawline

Anyone else excited??? Am really going to make a vair serious effort to actually pay attention to the plot this time - it's something to do with tin mining, I think [hesitant]

Scroll down for video "Struggles of learning the Cornish accent".

dustyanswer · 30/06/2017 13:38

When watching episode 2, did anyone else think the space-time continuum was in danger when Robin Ellis (as the retiring magistrate) was talking to Aiden Turner? Grin

ShelaghTurner · 30/06/2017 13:40

Elizabeth does take something but not yet . And she was never cold towards Valentine, she adored him. It was George that started to ignore him.

ShelaghTurner · 30/06/2017 13:44

Oh I know, the scenes where Old Ross and New Ross are in together blow my mind! But I do love Robin Ellis. Has anyone seen these, they're fab. Re the two Rosses thing, watch from 3.55.

dustyanswer · 30/06/2017 14:07

I wish Old Ross could tell New Ross not to be such a sulky little sod.

Very amused at the speed with which Elizabeth took to drink/laudanum!

There's lots of stuff I don't remember from the original series but of course they only made 2 seasons and they must have planned it out differently this time as Biggins/creepy vicar was in old series 2.

(And I am another one who doesn't fancy AT as Ross. When he came back from France his shirt was completely manky; Demelza was getting all amorous and all I could think was "Yuk, he must reek!")

beguilingeyes · 30/06/2017 15:40

Creepy vicar turns up next week, judging by the preview.and they've cast someone who looks a bit like Biggins.

beguilingeyes · 30/06/2017 15:41

Eleanor Tomlinson was interviewed on the radio yesterday and she was really sniffy about the original series. 'Oh it was alright for it's time but things have moved on now'. Put me right off her.

dustyanswer · 30/06/2017 16:25

I think it's a testament to the original series that one can watch it & still be gripped by the storyline & characters despite the fact it's all shot on video in dodgy sets. It's these millennials who can't focus on anything that isn't HD. So there.

ShelaghTurner · 30/06/2017 16:47

Yes I've heard her be sniffy about it before, went off her then. Yes it's moved on but good way to alienate long time fans...

Looking forward to Ossie, he'll (hopefully) give the production a much needed kick up the arse.

ProseccoBitch · 30/06/2017 19:09

@ShelaghTurner I loved that video!! 😂

ShelaghTurner · 30/06/2017 20:29

There are others. The best one is the fight between Francis and Cpt Blamey.

Pixel · 30/06/2017 20:42

Oh yes Shelagh I do know about the 'taking something' but I didn't want to spoil. That's not for years yet though is it. I thought she was fairly happy with her choice of husband and was enjoying being Miss high and mighty at all the best parties etc so I don't know why they are trying to send her off the rails already! She is a miserable little moo in this version.

beguilingeyes I know what you mean about the 'common' bit but that's how everyone would have spoken then so I don't hold that against him, he's basically a good egg! I really meant I love all his little comments to wind George up.

ElspethFlashman · 02/07/2017 21:11

Oh my god Ross stop lecturing us!

He's such an old windbag.

JuneFromBethesda · 02/07/2017 21:23

There's so little affection between Ross and Demelza so far in this series Sad

Love Aunt Agatha - determined to stay put just to piss George off Grin

MyOtherProfile · 02/07/2017 21:37

Why won't Demelza let Morwenna marry the Methodist lad? I know she said he'd below her station but that's totally hypocritical!

ElspethFlashman · 02/07/2017 21:47

Yeah, when has she ever given a shit about class?

The Rev is better casting than I thought. Even the way he talks is UGH.

ProseccoBitch · 02/07/2017 22:05

She knows that George won't allow it so is trying to save them from the heartbreak.

beguilingeyes · 03/07/2017 09:07

Demelza would never have said that. She believed that love conquers all. That didn't ring true at all.

CeeBeeBee · 03/07/2017 09:49

I think Demelza is trying to protect her brother and the rest of her family from potential revenge that George may take from their relationship.

ProseccoBitch · 03/07/2017 10:12

Yes I agree that it differs from the book, but then so do most things in this series! I'm quite enjoying Elizabeth's laudanum addiction even if it is nonsense.

ElspethFlashman · 03/07/2017 10:37

I don't understand the laudanum thing. But then I haven't read that far in the books so have no idea whether she's content or not.

She's a wierd one. She was dissatisfied with Francis cos he was a dreamer. So now she's married to George who seems to be committed to her being a fine lady and she's telling Morwenna their marriage is much more successful but she's drugging herself?

As a character I feel I don't get her at all anymore. Total personality transplant. She used to be nice, if a bit wet. She was warm.

It's like the show is implying Ross's "abandonment" of her has turned her into an icy ghost for ever more. Which is crap for her characterisation.

ProseccoBitch · 03/07/2017 13:33

I didn't think Elizabeth had much character in the books either. She doesn't take laudanum in the books.

beguilingeyes · 03/07/2017 13:35

All that grain/charity nonsense is a couple of pages at most in the books, and I can't see why they wasted practically a whole episode on it.

woodhill · 03/07/2017 13:48

I have read all the books but a long time ago. George is awful.
