So, only a matter of a few weeks left before we can all, once more, immerse ourselves in the societal & economic dynamics of 18th century rural Cornwall perve at Aiden Turner's snug breeches and clenched jawline

Anyone else excited??? Am really going to make a vair serious effort to actually pay attention to the plot this time - it's something to do with tin mining, I think [hesitant]

I know! Why the buggery bollocks is Verity, having thought she'd lost her husband at sea taken herself and her offspring off to Lisbon, by sea?! FFS 🙄 Just Go Home woman!!

SoupDragon · 19/06/2017 11:55

I did like the sly little comment by Elizabeth about Ross maybe having turned down the position of magistrate. The look on George's face was lovely :)

ProseccoBitch · 19/06/2017 11:56

Tholly is described as pirate like in the books and has a hook for a hand, he's part of various escapades so needed including. I picture him as a bigger man though.

@Dulra I do agree though, despite the liberties with the story I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

haveacupoftea · 19/06/2017 11:58

Bugger I was hoping the pirate man wasn't too crucial because I can't make out a thing he says.

I've started looking at uncle warleggan in a whole new light after this thread btw.

Was I hallucinating or did PRUDIE make a pass at Drake? There's deviating and there's delusional Shock

ShelaghTurner · 19/06/2017 13:04

Oh God YES I knew there was something I'd forgotten to be aghast at! Wtf was that about??

MrsBotox · 19/06/2017 13:09

Prudie did make a knowing snigger as Drake ran off. I think she was winding him up.

MrsBotox · 19/06/2017 13:15

I usually have the subtitiles on and it's interesting to see how they spell out the characters' Cornish dialect. I had to laugh last night when one of the brothers said they were going to convert some of the congregation Demelza said 'Good luck with that'. Not sure that was 18th Century-speak!

ludog · 19/06/2017 14:42

Cap'n Ross needs good wash and shave before he goes to fancy shmancy parties. Also, the breaking up and spreading out to get information from the Frenchies is so ridiculous. Laydees spent their time simpering and fanning themselves not racing off like a cross between Jessica Fletcher and the famous five solving mysteries!

Inkanta · 23/06/2017 14:02

Poor pink lidded eye George - I am feeling for him being saddled with unhappy pouty Elizabeth.

ProseccoBitch · 25/06/2017 13:00

The write up for tonight says something about Ross and a French barmaid, don't remember that from the book?

JDelanysCleanHorse · 25/06/2017 19:57

Interesting!

Reminds me,does anyone remember what happened to that prostitute that Ross bedded in the first series?
I seem to remember she also was at one of those gambling party's with George?

ProseccoBitch · 25/06/2017 21:01

She became Francis's mistress then marries a rich man who I think dies, she pops up often in the books. Margaret Vosper.

Allofaflumble · 25/06/2017 21:12

Random as this is, I think Aunt Agatha reminds me of Judd Apatow's youngest daughter in the film Knocked Up.

I loved the seventies series, was completely in love with Captain Andrew Blainey (he was gorgeous) and Judd was absolutely brilliant and hilarious.

beguilingeyes · 26/06/2017 07:43

Oh FFS. Elizabeth is a junkie now?

MrsBotox · 26/06/2017 07:47

Is Demelza suddenly wearing more low-cut dresses? Don't remember so much cleavage in the last series.
Elizabeth is such a miserable-looking horse-face. If her lower lip sticks out any further she'll trip over it.
Baby Valentine went from having black-haired to brown curls. Very cute though. Being weaned on pilchards has its benefits.

ludog · 26/06/2017 08:45

It's so historically inaccurate it's starting to annoy me now! As if Elizabeth's baby would sleep in her room...he'd would have been in a nursery with his nanny (who would also carry him in the carriage whenever he was travelling with his parents). The locals calling Ross by his first name would not have happened either.

Allofaflumble · 26/06/2017 12:54

Also Drake reminds me of Leo Sayer if anyone remembers him?

JDelanysCleanHorse · 26/06/2017 15:56

Drake reminds me of the old actor that stared in the sinbad films and jack the giant killer (50's &60's) -Kerwin Matthews.

SapphireStrange · 28/06/2017 15:36

beguiling, I suspect it wouldn't take me long, stuck in a house with insufferable George and without the distractions of son, great-aunt and cousin, to get hooked on laudanum either!

It's not that bad in the books. As usual, DH is over egging the pudding. George is a magistrate, we get it.

Pixel · 29/06/2017 23:44

I might have to read through the books again because I don't remember anything about Elizabeth taking Laudanum or being cold towards Valentine. I know Dwight Enys didn't deliver him though, it was Dr Behenna!
Oh well, I think they've cast Morwenna quite well and I'm rather liking Geoffrey Charles at the moment. Smile.

MrsBotox maybe Demelza is looking a bit more busty due to being with child?

beguilingeyes · 30/06/2017 06:34

None of that Elizabeth stuff is in the books. They're way off piste now. I hated when Geoffrey Charles said that Drake was common.
