has EE ever shown someone signing on etc? I always wonder if there's plots that they're not allowed to do - dole offices and the length of time to get a payment through, no more crisis loans, NHS wait times (although Ian did mention about going private), sort of gov related things at the time of an election?

I may now be going EE overboard trying to think of some reason for this absurdly boring plot line and all its holes....

buddhasbelly · 10/05/2017 08:24

youare i agree with you on that - the minute mart is more expensive but additional cost cancelled about by travel costs to bigger supermarket.

I do think it a bit ridiculous that Dee's false nails are all still intact - how long has it been since she could've afforded to have them done?

southeastdweller · 10/05/2017 08:26

They did a story with Kalfie trying to get benefits a few years ago but don't think that was at the time of an election.

OutToGetYou · 10/05/2017 09:43

I just saw Monday's last night - that scene with Lauren and Josh was idiotic. 'Chicken shops'?! Also, Josh not knowing the answer (to a totally dumb question) and Lauren's accent and stupid vacuous look, how could anyone take her seriously, let alone act like she'd come out with some great insight! (that she read in Jackie on the Tube!)

The80sweregreat · 10/05/2017 10:41

I can see why they would want to do more realistic problems on EE - social issues etc, but the writers would need to do some homework about it all and it would be a bit boring too i suppose - the benefits system isnt easy to navigate when you have to do it for real. I think that they should have shown Denise at least filling in some forms on line, or explaining to Kim why she isnt entitled to anything or something ( sanctions) I understand her not wanting to travel to cheaper places for food and so on, but its all been done in such a cack hand way! anyway, the other stories are also as far fetched - how long can they keep on filming lauren and clark away from the square?

lazymum99 · 10/05/2017 11:17

EE never has covered education very well. I've never got over Tamwar failing to get into oxford/cambridge with Libby and then giving up altogether and not going to any university. He lives in London where there are some of the best universities in the UK/world. He wouldn't have had to pay for accommodation.
As for sausage it makes out a law degree is easier than an english lit GCSE. He does bugger all. Works on a dissertation in a noisy pub.
The only one that was remotely realistic was when Abby wanted to be a vet (the most competitive course to get on to). They covered the fact that she wouldn't manage and then she did shit in her A levels.

The80sweregreat · 10/05/2017 11:59

The only one to have done well at Uni was Libby! Lucy beale had her own little company, but mostly the women dont become high flyers.

Its nice to see a young lady like Lauren getting a decent job and wanting to better herself, but again, its only because of some back story with her dad and Josh ( Clark kent) and him wanting to control her/ or using her, hardly a good message for any young adults tuning in ( not that my own careers have been very worthwhile, but lots of my friends were ambitious and did well in life) would be nice to see somebody progress on their own merits!
still, i think i am over thinking everything really. it is only a soap.

HateSummer · 10/05/2017 12:34

Janine manages to pick herself up every time aswell 😆

The80sweregreat · 10/05/2017 12:42

hate, yes, Janine had the ability to pick herself up - she was once a 'woman of the night' and penniless - became a hot shot property developer over time. i had forgotten about her!

Akire · 10/05/2017 13:07

Yes they should have had a nod to why she not claimed for those who have no idea.

Good call comparing Sausage degree and one GCSE it's not like English degree where if you have brain you can waffle you actually have know details and laws.

Akire · 10/05/2017 13:07

Will she shoplift ? I remember years ago when Jannie was hard up and had sell sex and Ian paid her blurrrrrgh.

The80sweregreat · 10/05/2017 13:54

akire, Ian beale has been so seedy over the years - he isnt a nice man.

EnidButton · 10/05/2017 14:12

Janine was a solid gold classic soap character. Multi layered, interesting, wicked and yet made you feel sorry for her too. She was brilliant.

EnidButton · 10/05/2017 14:13

I'd love her to come back one day but not under the current producer. He'd ruin it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/05/2017 14:22

@Buddha I thought the same about her nails 😂😂

@summer. Fab dedication !!! Regards shopping

I assume when the kettle went out it was coz the bill hadn't been paid. Yet had lights everywhere on and obv enjoyed her used tea bag cuppa

Pubs bigger kitchen is silly. Where have the taken the extra room from. Bedroom? Living room is next door - I think

We need another floor plan for the Vic !!!

The80sweregreat · 10/05/2017 15:48

The new kitchen still had all the same props in the glass cupboards - all cleaned and fresh looking! I cant imagine that Shirley put her marigolds on and had a deep clean of everything, but somebody did..

Janine would turn into into a boring drab character that goes on about missing 'probotics' or whatever Abi was waffling on about with this new producer on board. he wouldnt get her at all!

I did smile though when Donna was trying some of the yoghurt, then threw it away!

Akire · 10/05/2017 15:59

It must take few months to be cut off. You get a red bull about month after the proper bill you then must have 14 days to pay. Then must contact you to say we will cut you off if we don't hear from you.

Maybe Patrick will come back in 3 weeks find house in darkness and Denise to weak to get out of bed!

The80sweregreat · 10/05/2017 16:02

I actually want Denise to get a 9 on this exam and go to uni and do us all a favour. At least she might be entitled to a loan of some sort then.. ?
Sounds as though Patrick is quaffing rum and blacks abroad and having a wonderful time. If i were him, i would stay there!

JustAnotherSilentOldNumber · 10/05/2017 16:04

I've only been watching one episode a week, fridays.

Although i hear there was a very gripping cliffhanger with some pasta being cooked, so it sounds like i've missed loads.

The80sweregreat · 10/05/2017 16:05

Just, pasta cooked in a saucepan that didnt have any water in it - it was that gripping.

Akire · 10/05/2017 16:11

We don't find out exam results till end August... going be a long summer. Does anyone know when actual GSCE English exam is? They are in now for about next month. Let's hope it's next week!!

Iwantacampervan · 10/05/2017 17:14

My daughter's English Lit exams are Mon 22nd and Fri 26th May - not long now!

HateSummer · 10/05/2017 17:20

Sounds as though Patrick is quaffing rum and blacks abroad and having a wonderful time. If i were him, i would stay there!

The same Patrick who almost died from a stroke in old age and couldn't talk properly or walk 😳.

Yes I really hope Janine doesn't come back under this producer either.

The80sweregreat · 10/05/2017 17:21

I bet Denise will do her exams on a different day though! Lol.

The80sweregreat · 10/05/2017 17:23

Patrick's recovery was of biblical proportions! They just forget everything that happened pre new producer.
