The thing with names tho' is you often have people with the same names working together or in the same friendship groups. So two people called James is really very likely. It also helps as a possible plot device or a red herring 🤔😬

bottomhangingout · 18/04/2017 07:32

Names definitely a motif here. Pet names/nicknames too.

beargrass · 18/04/2017 07:52

...in which case, what was Roz's maiden name?

And why did she really leave? The 'bringing up the kids' story doesn't quite ring true.

How far back does this one go???

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 18/04/2017 07:53

I forgot about the Steve/ Steven thing. Well remembered!!

I noticed that the Arnold thing was done twice, too, and wondered the second time. is it all just to make Nick look a bot pathetic so that when he is actually a determined psychopath , we are shocked? What is this other motif of 'forgetfulness' all about? still thinks it's Hilton though

I thought the ending of Broadchurch was awful Feral and had spotted the baddie in ep 1 and then annoyed that intervening episodes just designed to make us ignore him, really. Whole thing very crass : rapists are victims too?? FML. Being deliberately vague in case anyone on here, hasn't seen it!

hackmum · 18/04/2017 08:29

When I woke up yesterday morning the first thing DP said to me was not "Good morning" but "On Line of Duty, have you noticed that the Huntleys drive 09 and 10 registration cars?"

Not sure why he thinks that's significant, though.

cushioncovers · 18/04/2017 08:35

. But I do think somebody should have picked up on her only using one hand/arm.

Yes I agree

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 18/04/2017 08:47

Haha hack , that's hilarious. My DH keeps telling me to just shut up and wait til next week.

OutToGetYou · 18/04/2017 08:59

I hate to say this but it has been my observation that when you get two black people in a drama, they are usually related (see Broadchurch as a recent reference) - so is JamieNotJames related to Roz, or is he related in some way to Jimmy (son takes dad's name....) and Roz maybe.....age not quite right for him to be her secret lovechild though??

S3 is free on YouTube, watched it this weekend (can usually get it on the TV if you have a smartTV or smartbox thing?).

Re cars - I saw something somewhere that mentioned Jimmy's phone number being the same as Huntley's but not sure if that's true.

OutToGetYou · 18/04/2017 09:01

What does '09 and 10 registration cars' mean? It can't be the year, they're newer than that and surely hers is police issue so no reason for it to be linked to her husband's.

hackmum · 18/04/2017 09:08

He was referring to the year - I don't know if he's right (I hadn't noticed the registration) and I'm not at all sure why he thought it was significant!

buggerthebotox · 18/04/2017 09:32

hack yes, I noticed the cars. I also wondered why Roz doesn't have a pool car, like the others.

Regarding Hilton's car; it was a Merc saloon, I think, in black, but I'm not sure if he actually drives it. I've only ever seen him being chauffeured in it.

buggerthebotox · 18/04/2017 09:34

So she has a pool car then?

For some reason I thought it was her own car. No idea why.

ElspethFlashman · 18/04/2017 09:40

I think the name being wrong is just to show Nick is a bit hapless and nowhere near as clever as Roz.

I feel sorry for him though. I don't think he attacked Steve and it was awful when Roz attacked him and he broke down sobbing. And then she had the audacity to comfort him? Angry

I hate her so much!

EmilyDickinson · 18/04/2017 09:43

The masons might let Catholics join but the Catholic Church has a huge problem with it. Until 1983 joining the masons meant excommunication, since then it means being in a state of grave sin and being unable to receive holy communion. Ted is portrayed as someone who takes his marriage vows very seriously, he doesn't seem like someone who would join the masons lightly.

cushioncovers · 18/04/2017 09:53

I think the same as others that Jamie notJames the young police officer is dodgey!

OutToGetYou · 18/04/2017 10:06

Roz's car has blue lights, so surely it must be police issue?

Nick has to be fairly clever to be a corp lawyer, but he's juts not clever around her because she is an abuser.

beargrass · 18/04/2017 10:09

That's interesting about the Masons Emily. I thought form S3 that Ted might have joined half-heartedly, because you need to, to get anywhere in the service, and because he could use it in his AC role. He didn't exactly use the Lodge to help out the previous Ch (?) Supt...

NotJanine · 18/04/2017 10:10

I thought JnJ was a bit rubbish because he's new. And to show how they struggle to cope without Steve there. Would be a bit of a copy of the previous series if we've got a dodgy one in AC-12 wouldn't it?

SapphireStrange · 18/04/2017 10:11

Why does being in the Masons mean being in a state of grave sin and being unable to receive holy communion?

ElspethFlashman · 18/04/2017 10:13

Yeah the Masons thing is really lazy. I don't know any Catholic who would be cool with joining the Masons.

I once went to visit a mate who lived at home and whose Dad was Big In The Masons and my father didn't even want me to stay in his house!

hoddtastic · 18/04/2017 10:15

because the catholics have their own branch of secret societies covering up for each other and helping each other out... the priesthood (and the catenians)

Abraiid2 · 18/04/2017 10:17

Masonic beliefs contradict catholic doctrine/teaching on some points.

ElspethFlashman · 18/04/2017 10:19

Also anecdotally Masons would refuse to hire Catholics in their work places. The Guinness Brewery was notorious for it back in the day.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 18/04/2017 10:19

Yes Out - that was me : go back about 8 pages and you can find it . Smile

SapphireStrange · 18/04/2017 10:25

Ok, ta.
