What about all the surveillance that Ifield had on his flat? Has that come up at all? He was obviously super careful. They've not mentioned a lack of pc/laptop in his flat. No cloud back up?

ktel1 · 17/04/2017 16:34

They mentioned the missing laptop and know that the surveillance footage is on it.

I think they said that Tim was a security freak and didn't back up in the cloud.

I think that there's something in the Jimmy/Jamie thing

Jamie is dodgy, I think

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 17/04/2017 17:37

Agree with PPs:
Maneet is double agenting for AC-12, passing over false info to WanderingHandsHilton, so as to prove him corrupt.
Her look of deep reluctance was just convincing acting to fool him that she'd complied with his orders.

Maneet and Noble Ted are both too shrewd, and have too much integrity, not to have justifiable reasoning behind what (for now) seem dubious actions.

Though I'm still undecided as to whether wily Ted's apparent sexism is purposely done to rile and push Roz's buttons (don't remember him demonstrating such overt attitudes previously?), or whether it's just a less desirable, ingrained habit of an older, more traditional SIO. Proving he's as flawed as any of us.

(Excepting Adrian Dunbar himself, who's perfect in every way). Wink Blush

Ted does, after all, also refer to male juniors as "son", "young fella" etc., arguably as patronising.

Likewise, yes, he may have originally joined The Masons for networking and being regarded as one of the gang; it was (believed to be) fairly common in his era of policing, but perhaps he maintains only the most peripheral involvement? Handy for keeping his ear to the ground and confirming hunches.
Isn't it famed for only seriously committed members being privy to inner sanctum stuff? Doubt very much Ted would invest time and inclination/ risk compromising his principles.

Do admit I'm very biased, though, and hate the thought of him and/ or Maneet being uncovered as less than honourable!
Please, Jed Mercurio, let them end the series heroically...

Sidenotes:

  1. Really laughed at Ted's expressions of groaning despair during JamieNotJames's faffing around in first interview. Grin
  1. Am certain Roz's injured arm was clocked by them there. Will be investigated further/ used against her next ep.
DubiousCredentials · 17/04/2017 17:41

He was def looking straight at her arm as I said to dh "omg look he's going to ask her about her arm" but then he didn't say anything. He might have been looking at her crack-handed one-armed paper shuffling but the penny didn't drop.

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 17/04/2017 17:49

"crack-handed"...that's a whole new angle for AC-12's investigation Grin

A relative of mine joined the Masons for a bit and was quite a regular attender - he was always adamant that they did a lot of good in charitable terms, and I have no reason to disbelieve him.

None of it was particularly secret, in fact I used to test him regularly on his ritual as, in his group at least, they were supposed to learn it off by heart and not read their way through it. I made no secret of the fact that I thought it was a right load of rubbish - in fact my strong feeling was that the reason women were kept out was because they would openly refuse to have anything to do with such time-wasting bollocks.

Myrobalanna · 17/04/2017 18:10

We've been racking our brains as to who Balaclava Man could be - Jimmie Knuckles (Patrick Baladi), Nick Winsome, or - bear with me, it's a bit out there - the brooding male DS in TN's team.

Because he needs to have access to the prison bloke's house, the case knowledge to pin things on him, and some sort of bug on AC-12's phones (long shot I know).

I'm sorry I don't know anybody's names Grin

ktel1 · 17/04/2017 18:28

I noticed that Maneet gave Jamie a look just before he went into the interview room.
It looked as though she resented him. Perhaps she feels that she deserves his job and feels as though she's been passed over or discriminated against.

This would fit into the whole sexism storyline and could be a motivation for her passing information to Hilton.

hoddtastic · 17/04/2017 18:43

was the balaclava guy defo after Steve? He could've been after someone else? eg TN's husband? The security guy? Any of the other people in the building, I don't think TN's husband did Steve by the way.

SapphireStrange · 17/04/2017 18:57

Good question, hodd. But he would have to have not known what the person he was after looked like, surely? I'm not sure how that would fit in... Could someone just be told to 'go and clobber the bloke who works on the fifth floor' or whatever, come across a totally different person in the lift, and assume it was them?

beargrass · 17/04/2017 18:58

Nick and his solicitor wear the same size clothes appaz. I'm sure he loaned Nick a suit? Even though they don't look the same size (and the solicitor is from S2 of The Office which distracted me for a bit but anyway)

Thought Nick looked like he'd been sleepwalking at the end. Is he a sleepwalking murderer?!

Roz has definitely hit him before, agree with PP.

hoddtastic · 17/04/2017 19:04

i think the fact we were told the move was floor 3 to floor 5 (we really didn't know that) and the building was meant to be empty / seemed to be empty you'd go equipped and hit the man, he may have thought Steve was TN's husband even? and been told to 'off him;?

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 17/04/2017 19:04

ktel1,

Actually, now that you mention it, I remember clocking that look.

Am hoping it might be resentful because JamieNotJames has infiltrated AC-12 at WanderingHandsHilton's behest...and JNJ (as go-between) is the one directly pressuring/ threatening/ blackmailing Maneet to pass info back to WHW.

If so, I wonder what they know about her that's so massive as to cause her to do such? (Or at least act as if she's passing on genuine info).
Not sure her career is so important to her that she'd betray her colleagues for, say, promotion.
Aaaargh, roll on Sunday!

Myrobalanna · 17/04/2017 19:17

I don't know if it's been said elsewhere but does anyone else feel the Roz character is written deliberately to take things a little bit backwards?

Yes she is still being discriminated against for having had children
Yes she is good about not calling women prostitutes
Yes she is being pressured into going to her boss's hotel room

But also
She's a domestic abuser (echoes of 'men suffer dv too' even though the numbers are overwhelmingly skewed towards women being attacked)
She's using misogyny as part of her lies (suggesting Ted investigates mostly women DCIs)
We see her manipulating Jodie ('We should have a drink and talk about your career') and generally fostering an unhealthy working relationship based on them both being women

I'm not arguing against a complex character but I wish she was less awful iyswim

ktel1 · 17/04/2017 19:18

Yes Marilyn I think your theory is a good one.

I don't think Maneet would act unethically or betray AC12 for promotion.

I still believe in her!

ktel1 · 17/04/2017 19:20

It'll be interesting to find out what is motivating Roz.
As it stands it's hard to see what could possibly justify everything she's doing but I have a feeling that there will be some mitigating circumstances.

msrisotto · 17/04/2017 19:25

I don't think Maneet has flipped. I was surprised that Arnott had such a good memory as soon as he came around, but i'm just glad he's still in the show!

Loftyjen · 17/04/2017 19:26

Ilikebeans the actress playing Maneet was pregnant in real life (peeped at her twitter feed last night!).

(Posting having not read rest of thread, but) Has anyone considered Ros might be having an affair with Jimmy & that he helped her dispose of Tim & was on hand to attack Steve?

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 17/04/2017 19:30

Yes, I think many of us think that's plausible.
