I'm not bothered about Bill having a girlfriend, but she barely knew The Pilot. They didn't have time to build up a proper relationship between them, so it was just a convenient way for to bring Bill back to life.

@SoupDragon please don't feel bullied off the thread! I like hearing different opinions Sad Come back!

WhirlwindHugs · 03/07/2017 19:01

I only just started posting on here, I don't want a fight!

I agree that Bill's sexuality is mentioned no more than anyone else's, I liked how they did it.

When I was rewatching I forgot how much Rose flirted with everyone to start with, there's the whole psychic paper scene where she meets Jack and accidentally tells him she's got a boyfriend but is very available 😂
I think her being interested in someone came up more in her first season than Bill's. Then obvs when DT started it was all about him and her.

Anyway. Someone up thread said Alex Kingston could have pulled off playing the doc and I agree with that totally, she could do it. I don't have any strong reason for wanting the doctor to be a woman, I just think it would be fun. Just like the ghostbusters reboot was fun.

paxillin · 03/07/2017 19:02

Bill wouldn't be the first twenty-something student who thinks about getting laid all the time. I remember it being a popular pastime in the olden days, and when listening to my students it hasn't changed.

HolyShmoly · 03/07/2017 20:13

I didn't have an issue with Bill being gay or if it had been shown. I thought her date(s) that were ruined by the Pope was very well done. I think the relationship with Pilot went from 0 to 1000000 very quickly (although that same shite happened with Clara.) However, maybe it was because I binge-watched this series, but in at least every second episode she explained to someone that she's only interested in girls.
Although, come to think of it, maybe that's actually an annoyingly regular occurrence for an attractive young woman irl.

rumbelina · 03/07/2017 20:18

I would rather have a female doctor than Kris Marshall or Eddie Redmayne.

Rooting for Ayoade here!

PC has been seen to be bloody awesome since Clara went. I am really disappointed he's going as this series has been brilliant. Lots of great one-liners too.

birdsdestiny · 03/07/2017 20:29

There has been no difference between the portrayal of bills sex life and that of Rose or Martha.

RatOnnaStick · 03/07/2017 20:33

I'd have Eddie Redmayne. Not sure about Ayoade, too quirky and obvious for me. TBH I'd be happier if they just picked a good unknown actor fit for the job and got on with making good telly.

TheHiphopopotamus · 03/07/2017 20:35

Can Richard Ayoade do any character other than Moss from the IT crowd though? I think he'd be awful as the Doctor although I'm willing to be proven wrong.

And even Moss would be better than Kris Marshall Confused

Riversleep · 03/07/2017 22:24

Kris Marshall would just be yawnsome. I'd like someone unproven. DS would like the bloke who plays the Grim Reaper in Horrible Histories.

Funnyfarmer · 03/07/2017 22:32

The 1st tread I've started where it hasn't all kicked off. DW fans are so dignified grin

I think he would good too.
"Stupid deaths are funny coz there true. Stupid deaths, hope next time it's not you"
Think he has a look of Colin baker

I'm still saying I'd like to see kriss. Said it for a long time.
Also after seeing Rowan Atkinson playing the dr in a spoof. Think he would be great.
After seeing Joanna Lumley in the same spoof play the dr. She wouldn't

If we're looking at the cast of HH for the next Doctor, then it's Ben Willbond or Mat Baynton :-D

Morecoffeeurgently · 03/07/2017 22:49

I liked Clara. There! I said it Blush runs away very quickly

TheHiphopopotamus · 03/07/2017 22:50

I was just thinking the same science

I'd love to see Matthew Baynton as the Doctor. Or would he make a better companion, especially if the next Doctor was a woman.

paxillin · 03/07/2017 23:19

I liked Clara. Teacher's pet.

Whileweareonthesubject · 04/07/2017 06:04

I've been watching Richard Ayoade in the Crystal Maze reboot. Boring and lacking in personality imo. Definitely do not want to see him as the Doctor, though I doubt it would happen now because of Crystal Maze.
Outside of Alex Kingston, can't think of a woman who could do it and I doubt they'd be able to rewrite River's storyline convincingly.
I'm actually quite open to Kris Marshal in the role. Wasn't sure about Matt Smith, but he ended up as one of my all time favourites.

Funnyfarmer · 04/07/2017 09:26

It's a shame the late Pete postlethwaite never got a chance. He would have been amazing!
What would you all think of Gary Kemp?

OP posts:
Funnyfarmer · 04/07/2017 09:31

Bit of who trivia. Maffat actually wanted kate Winslet for the the role of River. Kate agreed, but sadly couldn't commit to any future episodes.
Also John barrowman was approached for 'A good man goes to war' but he couldn't do it due to filming restrictions

I'm amazed that people think Blatant, entirely groundless sexual discrimination is acceptable on this thread. You haven't been bullied Soupdragon - you've flounced because you're entirely unable to back up your remarks with any form of justification. Plenty of posters have said why they'd like to see a female actor, or a specific female actor in the role, whereas you're just going 'no. Because no.' and yes, you're entitled to do that, but it doesn't make for a very stimulating discussion.

coldcanary · 04/07/2017 10:00

Pete Postlethwaite would have been a brilliant Doctor! Not sure about Gary Kemp but I haven't seen him acting much. Like the idea of Ben Willibond. Riz Ahmed would be an interesting choice but he's more films I think?

coldcanary · 04/07/2017 10:02

user Soup has every right to express an opinion without having to justify herself to anyone and has every right to prefer a male Doctor. Nagging away at her doesn't make for an interesting discussion either.

user1487175389 · 04/07/2017 10:05

If she's going to be sexist on here she'd better expect a nagging at the very least.

Samcro · 04/07/2017 10:05

i really hope that the new doctor is a man. I can't imagine it being played by a woman. it would l be like James Bond being Jane Bond.
