Can anyone remember when the last one was on as it seems like years? They are all teenagers now.

What happened between Rihanna's parents?

I teared up a bit at the beginning, like an old auntie crowing "look how you've grown!"

I turned 20 in 2000 and having children was light years away. Seeing how grown up these kids are now is proof that I'm going to blink and my five and nearly-two year old will be teenagers and living their lives separate from me too.

Feel bad for Charlie, shacked up with a boy who says he doesn't have much to offer I fear history is going to repeat itself with her.

Some kids barely got a look in. Calvin got one sentence right at the end. I REALLY remember him. His parents split up when he was a very young baby, and there was an amazing scene with him frozen in his high chair like a statue. You assume young babies don't really pick up on atmospheres, but he seemed quite affected by living in an unhappy house even at that age.

Was Calvin's dad the racing driver? I suspect we'll see more of him and others like the triplets tomorrow.

Decided to look the series up on Wikipedia. There's a lot we haven't seen in years and I guess never will.

EssentialHummus Rhianna's dad was always a waster who did jack shit around the house (No one will die if the hoovering doesnt get done) and didn't work much outside the home either, seemed to have wild fancies that he never followed through.
Rhianna had the measure of him early on and its no surprise he is playing the victim now.

If it follows the same pattern as 2013 then the kids who didn't get much coverage today - Calvin and Charlotte and Rebecca and Het and Nathan and Parys and Will (+ possibly some others?) will be the focus of tomorrow's show.

I noticed the montage of Helena only had two shots, one of her as a child and one of her from (I think) the 2013 update. I hope she hasn't dropped out because I had a real soft spot for her.

From the list on Wiki, there were only 3 missing from the 2013 update; One of the Charlottes, James and Rubin. It'll be interesting to see if anyone else has dropped out 4 years later.

Come to think of it, if Helena wasn't featuring then she wouldn't have been shown at all. Duh.

I remember another Charlotte whose mum became a police officer. And Rubin who won a scholarship to a prestigious school. And James who had a kind of chaotic life with his mum who had LDs.

Not man of the more memorable kids in this one, but I do remember screaming at Rhianna's mum to LTB. The twat even managed to do some poor me play acting ad theatrical sobbing directly from The Script! (As an aside, they appear to live not too far from my parents!)

I really wanted to see how Helena was doing. I always adored her way of seeing life! And Parys looks to be missing, now, too.

IJames: James' mother Carol comes from a very deprived background and suffers from a mild learning difficulty. She split up from the father of her elder child Bernie and James's father. James has asthma and was kidnapped at age five by Carol's ex-boyfriend, Ian.

AllGone - I think James' disappeared from the series quite early on because of the risk to him from Ian.I suspect his poor mum had to do a disappeaing act, so appearing on TV wouldn't be any good, because she'd likely be outed.

Oh that's really sad. Two mothers gone before their children reached adulthood.

I am in awe of Eve's bravery and maturity. Her mum would have been so proud. What a smashing girl.

It is very sad that they have lost a parent so young. However the divorce rate seems comparatively low. Do we really think this will end in a couple of years or will the interest continue?

I don't think the divorce rate is low. Perhaps I'm misremembering, but I'd guess that at least half of the children have parents who have separated, or fathers who weren't around in the first place.

Eve's mum would be proud, I agree. Tyreese's mum was so worried about his future as a black working class boy if I recall correctly. She was determined that his future would be bright no matter how hard they had to work. I admired her determination. So sad to hear she's passed away.

So many of the children now have split up parents but I suppose that's consistent with real life and statistics.

I can't wait for tonight's episode.

From the Wikipedia article I make it 11 out of 22 families where the parents are specified as having split up, or were already not together by the time the child was born, or the father isn't mentioned at all, or we know now they've split up (Rhianna's parents). That leaves 10 couples still together (posssibly) and Eve's dad who was widowed. It does mean slightly over half the kids probably have their parents still together, as I think the twins' and triplets' parents are still intact.

Rihanna reminds me of my dd. Was thinking that before I saw what situation with the dad was. Not surprising though that both have shit selfish dads. And for her mum to have got restraining order and police involved in getting him out suggests there was violence/abuse going on
