Well, there was a pilot show on tlc not long ago called Brother Husbands. One woman, 2 husbands, 5 kids between them. She went out to work and the husbands took care of the house and kids. No religious element to it, just a polyamorous relationship.

The question about the fate of the excess young men has always been something that has bothered me about this style of polygamy. Unless the male population gets continuously culled e.g. by war (as mentioned by a previous poster) this could only ever work long-term in a population where the birth rate of girls is much higher than the birth rate of boys.
