I think only one of them will make it to episode 2 and I'm leaning towards it being JW.
My feeling is that this started off being about a possible frame job of a suspect and has now led to an entirely different crime.
I think the the man arrested is innocent but that this came about through negligent police work , cutting corners and the pressure to get a conviction rather than a deliberate attempt to frame him.
Then ironically the attempt by JW to expose this leads to an actually far worse crime.
The emphasis may then be about him using his forensic expertise and inside knowledge to cover up what he's done .
He would go from being an good person who prides himself on exposing wrongdoing and admiring whistle blowers to being on the other side if the equation.
Aside from the main plot I think something is going to happen with Steve. I wonder if he may compromise his ideals in order to gain promotion or something along those lines.
This show does like to deal with a lot of ambiguity in it's characters , no one is entirely good or evil.
