I thought it was utter rubbish until the last two munutesGrin
Glad I stuck it out and looking forward to next week.

MrsJayy · 28/02/2017 23:38

Just checking in somebody had another thread I really enjoyed it cant wait till next week

BitOfFun · 28/02/2017 23:46

I really enjoyed it- I love unreliable narrators (if we can consider this as Ellen's point of view), and the uncertainty of paranoia.

MrsJayy · 28/02/2017 23:49

Why did Ellen fall out with her sister i couldnt work out what was going on

Crispbutty · 01/03/2017 00:00

I thought it was really good. DP said it was just a load of hormonal women Hmm

Missushb · 01/03/2017 00:02

I never saw Teachers- it was dr foster I remember Navin chowdry from; had to google! He is lovely.

RainbowJack · 01/03/2017 00:03

TBF I did find her unprofessional which annoyed me. Crying and screaming at Paula at work.

MrsJayy - I don't think that's been fully explained yet.

Missushb · 01/03/2017 00:04

Daffodil10 I was thinking that too; I think a realistic drama about a mat leave replacement would be pretty boring!! I enjoyed it, I did think the part at the end was a bit weird as she'd been suspended so would have been daft to go to site; but then she was supposed to be friends with

Missushb · 01/03/2017 00:05

Oops- supposed to be friends with that woman so maybe she would. Looking forward to next week

Cagliostro · 01/03/2017 00:11

Dr Foster, thank you that's probably where I recognise him from as I didn't watch teachers.

MrsJayy · 01/03/2017 00:13

Ah right thanks I thought i had missed a bit with her sister.

augustusglupe · 01/03/2017 00:23

I really enjoyed it!! Another here who can watch Vicky McClure in anything and being a born and bred Notts girl myself too, I love her accent!! Smile

NormaSmuff · 01/03/2017 06:55

it was all very familiar and uncomfortable.

NormaSmuff · 01/03/2017 06:56

she wasnt suspended she said she was working from home.

Elendon · 01/03/2017 07:24

I enjoyed watching this, even if it did make for uncomfortable viewing at times. Vicky McClure is excellent and she will soon be back with Line of Duty (can't wait).

Char22thom · 01/03/2017 08:09

surely if part of her weork is deemed unsafe during pregnancy then she would have just been office based ( as happens in other jobs) as opposed to 'working from home' crap. I know its a drama but good for it to be believable lol

absolutelynotfabulous · 01/03/2017 08:33

I too think there's something in Morven Christie's past that Paula has on her.

I found the Christie character paranoid, neurotic and unprofessional. She should have stayed at home, or at the office. She wasn't believable to me as a cool professional woman. I know it's not real.

I thought the men were too "pretty" but love Dougray Scott.

And Vicky McClure, as always, brilliant. I think she'll go far as a character actress. Hope she doesn't go all "Hollywood" on us, though.

I saw her live in a play recently and she does seem close to her Notts roots.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 01/03/2017 08:57

To be honest I found Ellen so smug and spikey from the beginning I'm routing for Paula. I think she should have just written an AIBU

The80sweregreat · 01/03/2017 09:14

Vicky mcClure was in 'this is england' on channel 4.
Not seen the other actors in anything else, although Ellen looked a bit familiar.
I did wonder if Paula is actually qualified, or just very good at pretending? a hard job to try and be good at if your not trained, but she may just be winging it and good with computers or something, so she can profile herself as better than she is actually is? Her relationship with her daughter and dh doesnt look healthy either, although that could all be a smoke screen and its Ellen that is that is the 'baddie' ( or her husband!)
i did enjoy it though -

Archimandrite · 01/03/2017 09:52

I really enjoyed it. And have no idea how it's going to go - will it be a Gone Girl/Girl On The Train scenario whereby everything you thought about the main character is turned on its head or will it genuinely be that Paula is the psycho that she appears.

QueenoftheAndals · 01/03/2017 10:09

The80sweregreat, the actress playing Ellen was in 2012 and that godawful spy show with Melissa George in the lead a few years ago. The actor playing her husband is currently in Outlander and I finally realised what I know Neve McIntosh, who played Kay, from - Bodies!

CoffeeCoffeeAndLotsOfIt · 01/03/2017 10:11

Just place marking. Was on the other thread

LizzieMacQueen · 01/03/2017 11:00

Scottish drama because afaik BBC has to do so much % regional broadcasting/programme making.

The house that the owners have, the sunday brunch venue, is in the West end of Glasgow, been featured in magazines and even (maybe) Grand Designs? Was nice to see it.

Team Paula for me.

Arkengarthdale · 01/03/2017 11:02

The actress playing Ellen, Morven Christie, was the mother Alison in The A Word last year. She was an annoying twat in that too.

However Paula's constant harping on about the pregnancy and 'best/most important time of your life' and doling out unwanted and unwelcome advice would have driven me up the wall too.

Yes Ellen was annoying but she could not get her point of view across. Unfortunately reminded me of a situation in my own work where my deputy kept cutting me out of the loop and attending meetings I was unaware of - it made for very uncomfortable but familiar viewing for me. And nobody listened to me either.

I knew the skylight would stay in but I thought it would be reintroduced as Paula's idea so the client would begin to think that Ellen wasn't as good as first thought, even though it was her vision that won the contract.

What role did Ellen's husband play in Outlander? I think he was in The Syndicate - the one in Yorkshire with Lenny Henry.

Loving the amount of drama on telly at the moment and can't wait for the next series of Line of Duty.

The80sweregreat · 01/03/2017 11:19

oh yes, thank you Queen and Ark, i did watch the A word and she was a bit annoying in that one too!
I have read both books Arch and seen Gone girl film, this is similar sort of format - trouble it i then try to guess whats going to happen and my dh is all confused as he doesnt read books!
someone mentioned Single white female too - that was a disturbing film and a book ' cuckoo' that i read with another similar sort of story - woman takes over somebodies life. I thought she said she had a daughter who was now 10 - i assumed it was the girl in the car near the start with the husband. she had 10 years out of the work place and was going back and he was going to care for her now? i might have to watch it again!
