Starts this Thursday 8pm on BBC2. Will fill the Interior Design gap nicely

Freya had a disappointing week but did at least provide a laugh with her flush.

ChocChocPorridge · 17/03/2017 10:03

Freya clearly has the skills, but seems to fall down on the planning and effort.

I agree that I think Richard should probably have gone instead though, and that Ryan or Clover should win (probably Ryan - on balance, he's done a bit better I think)

I really, really want to make my own toilet now. I'll add it to the list of things to do when I retire!

Akire · 17/03/2017 10:40

The toilet task was so hard, I think turtle head would keep getting your knickers caught though! Freya did look dreadful though wasn't much taken with Richards either.

I'd like the other girl to win

Knifegrinder · 17/03/2017 11:56

Yes, I'm trying to think about this compared to GBBO (as was), which has essentially the same format, of one big task set and two little ones - Paul and Mary weren't giving percentage weightings to each task, but they at least seemed clearer that the tasks other than the showstopper did definitely count towards whether someone was eliminated or saved themselves. They looked at how each contestant performed each week over all, not just in the showstopper.

It seems as if in the Throw Down, the only thing that counts towards elimination/non-elimination is the main make, which makes the other challenges a bit pointless, as though they are only there to be filler while the main makes dry and are fired.

I really think it's a travesty that Richard stayed on so long after the very talented Elaine had a single bad main make, while obviously being a gifted potter.

I thought Freya's loo should have got extra marks for wetting Kate's gingham nurse costume Grin

Floralnomad · 17/03/2017 12:01

Totally agree , the final should have been Ryan , Clover and Elaine and possibly Nam , they were by far the best . I didn't rate Freya at all , her decorations were generally pretty crap and looked like anyone could have done them , we wondered if the judges knew her father and that's why they seemed so enamoured by her .

Knifegrinder · 17/03/2017 12:25

I thought Freya was a very good thrower, and had a really original sense of design, but her handbuilding was slapdash, and she was disastrous at planning, though camouflaged by how much worse Cáit was for a long time... Richard just makes lumpy re-enactment props and should definitely have gone out before Nam, Elaine, and Freya.

5foot5 · 17/03/2017 13:31

The toilet task was so hard, I think turtle head would keep getting your knickers caught though!

Yes it would! I still thought his toilet was marvellous. I am so pleased because I was worried Ryan would go last week and he has been my favourite from the start. I really like Clover too but I didn't really care for her gloomy toilet last night. Shame about Freya but I think it was the right decision. Richard's stuff is always so very dull.

About the other challenges though. Whilst the signature challenge last night should have been taken in to consideration I don't think they could really put much weight on the outcome of the one minute teapot. Surely that was just for fun.

iwouldgoouttonight · 17/03/2017 13:36

I've liked a lot of Freya's designs but her toilet looked a bit... menstrual.

Agree that Richard should have gone a while back. His designs are boring and I can't warm to him.

Don't mind who wins out of Clover and Ryan, I like them both.

I did wonder if someone had just switched on, having never seen the show before, what they would think to see Keith sitting on a toilet with a turtle's head poking out between his legs and then sobbing at some pottery.

bruffin · 17/03/2017 14:19

Really wasnt keen on Freya at all and dont think she is more creative than Richard. All her stuff was repetitive and quite ugly, although i liked the pattern on her toilet.
Loved Tina the Turtle, it was in a different league to the others.

NotYoda · 17/03/2017 16:24

Apart from all the pottery stuff, anyone else think Freya and Ryan fancy each other?

NotYoda · 17/03/2017 16:25

.... I think Richard should have gone. I think Freya's more creative and ingenious but some of her stuff is ugly

Notmyrealname85 · 17/03/2017 16:35

Ryan, clover, Elaine and nam would've been an ideal lineup! I was also noticing how much some of these helped the others, just in being supportive while they were busy doing tasks and in giving technical advice

Notmyrealname85 · 17/03/2017 16:35

Also I secretly love nam! Remember when he was saying what a romantic he was! He was very sweet

SapphireStrange · 17/03/2017 16:36

Definitely a bit of flirting going on between Ryan and Freya, I agree. But who WOULDN'T flirt with Ryan? He's very pretty.

NotYoda · 17/03/2017 16:41

Sapphire

He's very nice, and talented, but not my type. Too angular and all his features are like a caricature of a MAN - model, in other words

TwoLeftSocks · 17/03/2017 16:48

I agree that Ryan, Cover, Elaine and Nam would have made a great semi final line up. I get also though that they've had to judge very much against what they actually asked for, and that's just gone wrong some weeks for some of them.

SoupDragon · 17/03/2017 18:09

I think Richard should have gone going by performance over all weeks but Freya's toilet was dreadful.

SoupDragon · 17/03/2017 18:12

I was sniggering about the turtle head toilet all the way through. I loved it :)

Clover's Russian dolls from last week were simply superb. My favourite make from the series I think,

NotYoda · 17/03/2017 18:14

YY The Russian dolls were just beautiful. I think Clover is great. Such a lovely energy about her

iklboo · 17/03/2017 21:10

Ryan kind of reminds me of Handsome Squidward from Spongebob

TwoLeftSocks · 17/03/2017 21:31

Would Richard be Patrick then?

MrsJamin · 17/03/2017 22:30

Really disappointed that Richard is in the final, he has very little creativity, especially when he did a design twice, the judges were correct in bringing him up on it. I think Ryan will win. I was surprised he was so upset at Freya leaving, I wonder if there was something between them?!

Davros · 17/03/2017 23:33

I'm also disappointed that Richard is in the final but I'm pleased Freya has gone. I didn't like her style and her often ugly pieces. The toilet challenge was quite funny. I was disappointed in Clover this week but hope she does better in the final and wins

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 18/03/2017 08:30

I'm not sure whether Ryan will win. It depends on the final main make - if Clover pulls out something like the set of Russian dolls, she will win. However, Ryan has been more consistent than her with several items that could have gone in the gallery.

Richard is in the final because he is a solid potter who takes no risks. Others have taken a risk and failed, leaving him always mid pack and safe.

GoldenGumballs · 18/03/2017 21:04

I think Ryan is very competitive and he was upset at Freya leaving because she was his competition & he admitted she inspired him. She was the one to beat so he's prob sulking that he hasn't got the big final he dreamed of. Clover to win! Richard can bog off in his berlingo.
