Starts this Thursday 8pm on BBC2. Will fill the Interior Design gap nicely

Yes Ryan's Nan was distinctly underwhelmed! Poor Ryan Grin

Heinousfauxpas · 24/03/2017 09:57

Sapphire yes I thought she sounded distinctly underwhelmed too. Maybe the bbc have hyped up the whole 'gran worship' aspect here and she actually doesnt give a toss whether he wins or not. Especially seeing the prize comes minus any hard cash :)

HmmOkay · 24/03/2017 09:59

Ryan's nan also said "And you don't get any money or anything?" Grin

And he said "No grandma, just a really nice trophy".

Nice to see that most of the contestants were continuing to work with pottery.

I also liked the painting challenge. It is good to see creative people working and looking at what they can come up with.

Can't be arsed with this need the producers have to parade the contestants' families and friends around in every show though.

Stick to the art and craft.

JamesDelaneysHat · 24/03/2017 10:12

'And you don't get any money' Shock I missed her saying that. Nan the Mercenary!

Was that shot of Ryan crawling out of a tent supposed to be him in Africa or did Nan throw him out of the house and make him live in the garden after failing to bring a substantial cash prize home?!

SapphireStrange · 24/03/2017 10:16

Ryan's nan also said "And you don't get any money or anything?"
And he said "No grandma, just a really nice trophy".
Shock When did that happen?!?

James, the money tent shot was from the episode where they had to camp out overnight to do their pit-firing. But I love the idea that his nan might chuck him out for not bringing home the bacon. Grin

So does he actually live with his nan? I never quite grasped that. They did mention both his parents, didn't they, so I don't think he's an orphan or estranged or anything.

HmmOkay · 24/03/2017 10:24

It happened just right at the end where he was presented with the trophy and he rang to tell his nan and he put her on speaker.

SapphireStrange · 24/03/2017 10:35

Yeah, it's weird; I saw and heard the 'I'm holding the trophy/Oh that's nice, love' exchange but totally missed the question about the money. Grin

gleegeek · 24/03/2017 10:38

Just finished watching it. Really enjoyed the whole series. Am actually pleased Ryan won because overall he seemed the most well-rounded potter. I loved Clover's work on a good day - I think with more experience she'll be amazing - but when it went wrong it went spectacularly wrongGrin It should have been Elaine in the final with them IMO and I'm not surprised Kate Malone has taken her on.
Sad it's overSad

SapphireStrange · 24/03/2017 10:42

It should have been Elaine in the final with them IMO and I'm not surprised Kate Malone has taken her on.

Agree on both counts! I'm really pleased she's working with Kate.

Saltedcaramel2016 · 24/03/2017 10:46

Absolutely loved this again. I always feel a bit sad when the series ends! I think Ryan was a good winner but I also love Clover. I was also surprised when Elaine left so early as she seemed so good.

Thought Ryan's Nan was funny, I think that is just her humour to be honest!!!

Fontella · 24/03/2017 13:12

Loved the series, but to be honest, I thought the final was a bit of an anti-climax.

All of the lights were naff compared to some of the lovely stuff produced earlier in the series, and although Ryan's was probably the best, it really was just lots of individual tubes strung together.

Also slightly weird to give them porcelain when none of them had ever worked with it before, and therefore the results were never going to be great.

I thought Richard's leaves were lovely - the way he'd shaped, marked and glazed them - but I'm guessing he had run out of time because half of them seem to have just left white - or was that deliberate? I wasn't really sure.

I too heard Ryan's nan ask 'you don't win any money?' in the phone call, or words to that effect.

But overall, I loved the series .. and long may it continue.

JamesDelaneysHat · 24/03/2017 13:37

I think that's the issue with the finals in these type of programmes. They give them so much to do and 'challenge' them so much that it can be frustrating as a viewer when the quality is a bit shit.

SoupDragon · 24/03/2017 14:13

I do agree that Elaine should have made it to the final but I also think she had to go as her Main Make that week was a disaster and didn't fit the brief. It's kind of a flaw with the way these contests are set up though. Richard made it through by being a solid mid-table potter each week.

Akire · 25/03/2017 01:19

No pottery, no painting.... what are we going to do!!

SapphireStrange · 26/03/2017 12:33

I don't know, Akire. No Sewing Bee at the moment either. Sad Mutiny?

Davros · 26/03/2017 22:54

I'm pleased Ryan won and thoroughly enjoyed the whole series. I loved the trophy. I will have to fill the pottery, painting, sewing and baking gap with Masterchef

OP posts:
Heinousfauxpas · 26/03/2017 23:26

Davros that's my plan of action too. Masterchef is all we have so we have to invest in that despite the Greg Wallace annoyance factor.

SoupDragon · 27/03/2017 08:14

Master chef doesn't ignite my creativity like the others though,

Heinousfauxpas · 27/03/2017 09:41

SoupDragon me either. But it's all there is till hopefully we get next series of the good stuff.

Davros · 27/03/2017 20:47

Well I'm just as likely to cook a meal as throw a pot or make a garment (not at all) so it works for me Grin

OP posts:
Akire · 27/03/2017 20:49

I can't stand master chef either, to much oh this is this hardest thing I've ever done in my life. Really? All of You?? No one ever had a crisis or tough life? worst thing even happen is cooking a 3 course meal....please.

SoupDragon · 27/03/2017 21:51

Whenever we have burgers for dinner I play masterchef and do an utterly ridiculous presentation. My favourite was the burger-In-a-bun with two sweet corn kernels balanced on top that looked like one of the Smash advert robots. Happy days!

SoupDragon · 27/03/2017 21:52

We've had them with "potato two ways" and a "Ying and yang of peas and sweet corn" too.

JamesDelaneysHat · 27/03/2017 21:56

I hope you also had samphire with it, Soup? Or whatever the latest obscure veg will be?!

I do watch Masterchef but I actually really physically hate Greg Wallace not exaggerating at all
