Wanted Down Under - new series

Breward · 31/12/2016 21:52

Starts on Monday 2nd Jan @ 11am (new time) each day.

DH always says, "You can tell it is the new year when this deluded escapism is on!"

I for one will have it on series record. Anyone else joining me to escape to Oz each morning?

Yes, it did seem surprising they managed to pull it off given all the constraints. I did notice they both said they were working more hours than they did in the UK though, even if they did get good money for it.

I've only got one more day of being able to watch this before I return to work after a month off...I'll miss it!

LIZS · 14/02/2017 12:42

So glad it's worked out for them.

NancyDonahue · 14/02/2017 12:46

Great update today. I'm glad they got there and have settled well.

AztecHero · 14/02/2017 13:02

I just watched the last 10 minutes or so and thought it was interesting the parents decided not to come back to the UK for 5 years to give themselves a chance to really settle in. Really good approach I thought.

BabytoBoris · 15/02/2017 11:22

Watching this would make a great drinking game. Shame it's on tv so early. Everytime one of them comes up with something predictable (crying at videos from home) we all swig our gin.

NancyDonahue · 15/02/2017 11:32

Oh yes.

Excitement at walk in wardrobe - swig

'We can't do this in the UK (trip to zoo) - two swigs.

'I don't like the curtains/paint' - three swigs

greenworm · 15/02/2017 12:14

Am watching on catch up

Another one for the drinking game: saying young children have as much say as their parents re: whether to make the move or not!

AztecHero · 15/02/2017 12:15

'I thought we'd get more house for our money' (even if they don;t say it but clearly thinking it)

two swigs of gin.

greenworm · 15/02/2017 12:29

"Milk/chicken/potato waffles are £3 dearer, gosh" - you have to go to your kitchen and immediately eat any and all of the items mentioned that you have in stock.

AztecHero · 15/02/2017 12:30

Oh God. They always but always mention orange juice.

I'd have to get some in ready.

AztecHero · 15/02/2017 12:30

And surprise that the master bedroom is always by the front door.

(Why is that by the way - does anyone know?)

NancyDonahue · 15/02/2017 13:21

Such a boring update today.

If the beeb are reading this..

Please don't do updates after just one year and update the repetitive format. Also please stop featuring families where one person is dead against it. There must be plenty of serious families out there who would love to do a trial.

LarrytheCucumber · 15/02/2017 13:27

I liked today's family. They made a sensible decision. He reduced his work hours without going to the other side of the world. They stayed with the relatives who might not be here much longer.

greenworm · 15/02/2017 13:31

I didn't mind them. I warmed to the mum despite myself, she was so unprofessional in that job interview bit!

Surprised they didn't mention that she'd be closer to her family in the Philippines if they moved to Australia - wouldn't it be a much shorter and cheaper plane journey than from the UK?

Msqueen33 · 15/02/2017 20:49

They've not had one on there who've actually just turned around and said they're moving back. I remember yonks ago one family went then came back, went again then came back then decided they'd go back again. Crazy.

LIZS · 15/02/2017 20:59

At least today they touched on the substantial costs for visa etc. It did seem a bit pie in the sky though. Both were dependent on family business for income in UK, would they really be happy working for a company? I wondered if her UK immigration might complicate the Visa situation too. It felt as if they wanted their daughter to make the call which was rather unfair.

AztecHero · 16/02/2017 11:06

anyone watching today?

shhhgobacktosleep · 16/02/2017 11:10

Yup I'm here watching.

AztecHero · 16/02/2017 11:12

I love her delight over this house!

shhhgobacktosleep · 16/02/2017 11:16

I can understand them viewing property to get an idea what they may be able to afford but actually wouldn't they be better focusing on the areas rather than the houses? It's not as if they're actually going to buy any of those houses viewed on the visit as they're no where near that point, even if they do move. I'd like them to see a bit more of the areas. Some of the properties are on what look just like huge housing estates, albeit in the sun.

shhhgobacktosleep · 16/02/2017 11:18

She seems VERY enthusiastic. The husband's earlier comment re being able to get a boat in the uk made me laugh.

AztecHero · 16/02/2017 11:25

I was thinking the same re houses shhhh.

I do wonder sometimes if people should write down a list of everything the dream location apparently offers, then adapting there life in the UK to that - so a boat- well, commit to a fishing holiday annually here. Or want more outdoors life - what can be done here in the UK etc. It strikes me that they expect a change in location to magically change everything- you still have to get out and be proactive in seeking the opportunities.

I don't want to piss on any chips though- DH has just spent the morning pissing on all of my ideas for our own holidays etc so I know how demoralising that can be!

AztecHero · 16/02/2017 11:30

Although I have to say being somewhere warm all the time is desperately appealing right now.

AztecHero · 16/02/2017 11:34

I love their enthusiasm and joy. :)

fourquenelles · 16/02/2017 11:39

This lot seem to be level headed, enthusiastic and prepared to adapt. I like them. The money issue could be a problem but I reckon they will get on a level keel soon especially re. the adaptability.
