Starts on Monday 2nd Jan @ 11am (new time) each day.

DH always says, "You can tell it is the new year when this deluded escapism is on!"

I for one will have it on series record. Anyone else joining me to escape to Oz each morning?

They seem to have fallen on their feet. Lovely house too.

DameXanaduBramble · 08/02/2017 11:37

She's been there a couple of yers and sounds like a seasoned Kiwi, nobody would get an accent that quickly. It's sounds so put on.

greenworm · 08/02/2017 11:38

Kitten!

DameXanaduBramble · 08/02/2017 11:39

And that upward inflection!

wideboy26 · 08/02/2017 11:40

Ah, but she lived there for a while so the accent probably came back quite naturally. Love the way they moved despite all the tears and heartbreak.

LIZS · 08/02/2017 11:40

Thought she might have had another baby! They've fallen on their feet though.

DameXanaduBramble · 08/02/2017 11:40

Ah I missed that bit.

wideboy26 · 08/02/2017 11:41

Her new hairdo suits her

greenworm · 08/02/2017 11:42

Oh my god, the upward inflection on every sentence is now all I can think about

wideboy26 · 08/02/2017 11:49

I think the risk of my wife getting that upward inflection would discourage me from making the move. So irritating!

NancyDonahue · 08/02/2017 12:40

She looks fab, much healthier and has a look of Jennifer Lawrence about her. I'm glad it worked out well for them.

But argh.. the upward inflection! It's cringey!

Also, I wish men wouldn't wear those 3/4 length trousers, they look like gawky little boys. Knee length is much more flattering!

WinterWander · 09/02/2017 10:52

Her kiwi accent was more kiwi than the real life New Zealanders I know! She was looking really well. i thought they were a great family. Working for the same company remotely was ideal for him.

greenworm · 09/02/2017 11:21

Bit unusual to have 2 of them both in paid work as singers!

LIZS · 09/02/2017 11:23

Finding it hard to reconcile the blubbing woman in UK with the self confident club singer. Do pub singers really make that much?

greenworm · 09/02/2017 11:27

I guess that the thing with singing is the massive competition for the jobs. I can see how on a per hour basis you can earn a fair whack, it's getting enough regular gigs to make a living that is the issue and surely very risky moving somewhere where you have no reputation and no contacts. Would they really be able to walk into those jobs they auditioned for in Australia? It seemed way too easy.

museumum · 09/02/2017 11:31

I really thought he was going to back out!

LIZS · 09/02/2017 11:37

How are they funding the move with student visa?

Vagndidit · 09/02/2017 11:47

Huh?!?

"The Underwood family moved to Australia in Spring 2016, they set up a successful flower courier business and Victoria was doing well singing in a band.

Unfortunately after ten great months in the country the Underwood’s have had to return to the UK after receiving wrong information from a migration agent regarding the school fees they could expect for their son Frankie.

The fees would have made it impossible for the family to continue their Australian dream. Now settled back in the UK, both Rob and Victoria are back in show business and they have moved into a new house. They have decided to try and pursue their Australian dream again in a few years."

So in other words, they didn't realise they'd have to pay school fees as new immigrants. Hell, I think most of us on this thread could have provided more accurate info about moving to Australia...

Interesting FB update:

What's up with the school fee thing? Why wouldn't he be able to go to a state school for free?

greenworm · 09/02/2017 11:48

X-post! You obviously understand the school fee issue: so do new migrants have to pay in Australia?

museumum · 09/02/2017 11:50

school fees? I've never seen that on WDU? Do immigrants have to pay for school?

museumum · 09/02/2017 11:55

why do they bother with all the faffing about over pennies for a pint of milk in the programme when theres the elephant in the room of paying school fees? (almost all the families on the programme have kids).

Vagndidit · 09/02/2017 11:57

It's completely dependent on the type of visa they have, but if it's a 457 or whatever temporary visa, they are liable for school fees even in state schools. Depending on the state, it could be 10s of 1000s of dollars. Same goes for healthcare...which WDU seems to conveniently leave out of the affordability equation as well...

greenworm · 09/02/2017 12:02

That's interesting Vagndidit, and like museumum says it seems crazy that this is never addressed in the programme (to my recollection).

A lot of people we see seem to be planning on getting visas on the basis of one of them being a skilled worker in a demand area, maybe this type of visa holder would be exempt from school fees?

Msqueen33 · 09/02/2017 12:21

I think if they chucked in schools fees etc most people couldn't do it and they wouldn't have much of a programme.
