Hi
Followed Sue and Noel Radford and family on our tv programmes & see they have a new show on tomorrow (29/12/16).

Something I don't get is child safety in this and other larger families.

I mean I had 3 under 7 and I watch 2.5y old all the time, even when he is in older siblings room as there's bunk beds etc and even dressing up clothes can be dangerous

I know the Radford's have super high bunk beds and they always have around 4 kids under 6y I wonder how they supervise them? Or do you think kids like these and in other larger families are in hospital much more often ?

I watched it and iv done a major u turn on how I feel about them . I think they are incredibly selfish and seem to be addicted to newborns . The older kids are just un paid nannies.

seasidesally · 31/12/2016 19:51

They never seem very bothered about their grand children, dont mention them etc

probably dont want the attention taken away from them im thinking

Emmerdalefan · 31/12/2016 19:54

What happened with the clairvoyant and why was noel mad ???

OhFuds · 31/12/2016 19:56

I remember the last programme where it was Sophies wedding, Sue was always carrying around the new grandbaby while her own kids were running riot. Chloe was left to deal with them and order in food.

OhFuds · 31/12/2016 19:57

Noel was pissed because she said there would be no more babies for them.

Soubriquet · 31/12/2016 19:57

Clairvoyant said that Phoebe was the last baby

Noel didn't like that

bijouxxx · 31/12/2016 20:08

AndNowItsSeven the older kids seem to get rooms to themselves so the younger ones appear to be 6 to a bedroom (2 x triple bunk beds), but then there's the issue of the kitchen, lounge etc not being big enough.

Msqueen33 · 31/12/2016 20:10

I remember one of the boys saying when another baby is born they get shoved in with them and he seemed really sad about it. I wonder how Sophie (?) gets any time off if Sue and Noel are so busy you wonder if they babysit. I suspect Sue's parents do a lot more than we see. Their kitchen did look really tiny.

Msqueen33 · 31/12/2016 20:10

Tidy not tiny.

Their house is really tidy compared to mine.

I don't think saying that 19 is disingenious. I have teens and younger ones and the teens very much still need parental support/time/guidance. I have 5 and I really try to make an effort to take the teens out for alone time as they want to talk in peace, not being interrupted by younger siblings squabbling etc.

Sue has a nursery for a new baby and when a new baby is born the existing baby/child goes in with the older ones. I think that is what Daniel meant about shoving the kids in.

Sue has a brother and Noel has a sibling.

Sue's mum babysits for Sophie, she went away for her anniversary and her Gran took them for the weekend. That woman is a saint!

woesinwonderland · 31/12/2016 20:49

Chloe leaving uni is a classic example of the bubble that the parents seem to live in. Sue said it was because Chloe really.missed living in a big family and all of the noise of her siblings, but Chloe said it was because she felt it made more sense to be near in case something happened and they needed her (Sue had had a mc recently) She seems to feel a great sense of responsibility towards her sibs.

MrsMoastyToasty · 31/12/2016 20:49

What makes me wonder is that if, god forbid, Sue dies in childbirth (which is a possibility ) who would raise the children?

Msqueen33 · 31/12/2016 20:52

They must be in a real bubble. I feel so sorry for the siblings caring for others. Not much of a childhood at all.

likepeasandcarrots · 31/12/2016 21:11

Like a lot of pp I have seen most of the programmes about the Radfords and, while it's not my idea of what my life is, I've always thought they did well and seemed like a nice couple and family.

HOWEVER, while watching this episode my viewpoint changed completely. It's never been mentioned before that she was only 13 when she got pregnant, they also managed to gloss over it a bit in this episode and also didn't mention his age at all.

Then, all the 'we love sex we do' stuff and talking about it with the kids was just really cringey and not something that has ever been discussed before. Their kids all seemed a bit sad about their being so many kids, none of them said they would have as many. Some said they didn't like all the new babies coming.

I was shocked by this episode and doubt I'll watch any future programmes.

2anddone · 31/12/2016 22:29

I have watched all of the radfords programmes so far and this latest one didn't sit right with me. I don't know if it was the constant sex talk or the general creepiness of the Australian father. Usually it comes across as Sue and Noel have their shit together when it comes to raising their kids but tonight the children came across as rude and very misbehaved with the fighting and cheekiness. I wonder if they are more aware of their 'fame' now they are getting older and it has gone to their heads?? Tonight was the first time I watched the show and thought sod that they don't claim benefits they need to parent their kids!!

immaturecheddar · 01/01/2017 19:21

Their fan base is very cult-esque. Any negative comments or challenges are immediately deleted or shot down.

I believe one of the older girls (Sophie?) has been on MN before. She started a thread relating to the name of one of the recent babies and announced predicted it with great accuracy. It came across as a weak attempt to drum up publicity.

Veggiesupremeextracheese · 01/01/2017 22:47

I remember that thread was that definitely her?!

Veggiesupremeextracheese · 01/01/2017 22:48

Oops bold fail sorry Grin

Schoolquestionz · 01/01/2017 22:53
  • In awe
  • Jealous
  • Constantly watch 3 & 5 year old otherwise one would die. The moment I don't one seems to do something whereby I catch them in the nick of time from certain tragedy
  • Always makes me want more children
  • Can't believe how young Sue looks. Must be the sex.
Inadither · 02/01/2017 08:53

I thought that the family seemed more like they were playing for the cameras this time. The whole vasectomy thing sounded a bit staged. I think that maybe they need the money the filming gives them so they spiced it up a bit. The discussion with the girls about sex seemed set up by the film crew and I just don't think they're comfortable with acting. The Australia thing was just plain uncomfortable and wasn't a holiday at all. it seemed like they must have only been there for a few days for filming. I had always admired them and the love that seemed to be around but agree the light shed on them this time wasn't flattering.

immaturecheddar · 02/01/2017 09:15

veggie Obviously I can't be certain but I'm pretty sure. The thread was started a couple of days before Sue had Hallie and the OP very accurately predicted what the baby's name would be. Odd.

immaturecheddar · 02/01/2017 09:18

And YY to the bits set up for camera. I think the series has got to the point where it's not quite interesting enough to just cover their daily routine. We've got over the fact they have so many kids and she does 18 hours of ironing a day and 12 loads of washing and they need a minibus to get around. They need another element, hence the cringey sex conversations and trips to meet other huge families.
