Further to the other GG thread, this thread is for discussion of the four feature-length episodes which will drop on Netflix on Friday 25 November.

The thread may contain spoilers both for the original seven series of GG AND for GG:AYITL.

More thoughts. Team Jess must be very happy. If there is to be more of this series (and, come on, they can't leave us hanging off that cliff forever), they have set it it up nicely to have Jess as the perfect partner for Rory. He's grown up, helping take care of his irresponsible mum and stepdad, clearly appreciates Luke and all he did for him, and encouraged Rory to write the book. I think it was even his idea. (I need to do a re-watch when I have time.)
Compare that to Logan who thinks that marrying someone because his family wants him too, is acceptable. He supports Rory too, but his way of doing it, giving her the keys to one of his family's houses, just reeks of throwing money at a problem to solve it. Plus, those goofs he hangs out with prove that he has not really grown up much.
There's not really much to say about Dean, but he seems to have started afresh with a new wife. I assume his concern about what Rory would say about him in her book was partly shame about cheating on his first wife. (I'm a bit of a Jared Padalecki fan so I might just be viewing Dean through rose-coloured glasses.)

I think this is the longest post I've made on MN. Blush

Andylion · 26/11/2016 17:35

Ok, one more post; everyone knows that Danny Strong, who plays Doyle, is in fact, an award-winning screenwriter, right? Grin

OneThingAndThenTheNext · 26/11/2016 17:50

I loved it whilst watching it - nostalgia maybe. Thinking about it all now, I like it less and agree there's too many things that weren't covered/skimmed over too much.

Paul the boyfriend I hated - it was a horrible way to treat someone and I'd like to think that none of them would have behaved like that to someone. Liked Rory's flaws - she has always had them but they've been ignored. Hated the Life and Death Brigade bit it was silly. I think Richard was treated brilliantly, fitting to him not being there.

I didn't mind Sookie, actually thought the opposite and that she'd got into character.l very well for such a small amount of screen time!

Cherrypi · 26/11/2016 18:23

Ooh I didn't know that Andy. I felt I was missing some of the cameos as a non American. Were all the chefs famous?

Andylion · 26/11/2016 18:40

Cherry, I think the chefs were real. I know Rachael Ray, but also Roy Choi.
This list has some, but not all, guest stars. It leaves out Doyle.

Also, Peter Krause, one of Lauren's Parenthood costars who appeared in GG, (the second park ranger), is her real-life partner.

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 26/11/2016 18:56

I quite enjoyed the nostalgia too but I found it odd that nothing appeared to have happened in the last decade. It was as though they all fell asleep and woke up ten years later! The discussion round whether or not Lorelai and Luke wanted a child, seriously? We're told they've been together 9 years, this never came up? Lorelai is 48!

Disappointed that Rory has achieved nothing in ten years too. The private school, Yale education, her grandparents financial support and yet the girl who was oh so much better/smarter than everyone else hasn't established herself in her career, no real relationship, no home...

I thought Emily was great, always well acted and Paris is a great character. Pity she didn't feature a bit more.

For me there was a bit too much focus on shoehorning in every character who'd ever appeared in the show and they maybe could have focused more on story or the relationships. I reckon there will be further episodes.

Dozer · 26/11/2016 19:14

Did Peter Crouse play Nate in six feet under? Now he was a dislikeable character!

Dozer · 26/11/2016 19:17

I liked the "peaked in college" storyline - plenty of people do well at academic stuff then flail around and don't succeed in working life, that's happened to me! My work failures haven't involved transatlantic travel or rich relatives' financial support, I eat like Rory but am twice her size!

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 26/11/2016 19:21

Yes that's Nate, I loved Six Feet Under. I'm only at summer, underwhelmed so far..but it's nice to have GG back.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 26/11/2016 19:23

Happened to me too douser Wine I'm hoping to get a,second peak in my eightiesGrin

Dozer · 26/11/2016 19:45

That sounds good Lois, fingers crossed eh Wine

EsmesBees · 26/11/2016 20:02

I hated the Paul storyline too. Rory was so rude to him. And Lorelei and Luke barely even mention the blatant rudeness.

Dozer · 26/11/2016 20:27

Paris has fantastic workwear!

EverySongbirdSays · 26/11/2016 20:30

Around Series 5 Rory became quite a dislikeable, spoilt, character. Interesting that she also saw teaching as beneath her, despite being offered a steady job if she did grad school.

Dozer · 26/11/2016 20:36

Love the bathroom scene at Chilton. Lisa Weil is fantastic as Paris.

Graphista · 26/11/2016 20:39

Liza Weil is fantastic full stop. Loved her in scandal and loving her in how to get away with murder.

EverySongbirdSays · 26/11/2016 20:43

Liza Weil is the best thing in the revival

toastymarshmallow · 26/11/2016 21:32

Yes I agree, Liza Weil was brilliant. I loved her fashion. The bathroom scene was very good, she nailed it completely.

Also what she said about the kids crying on Christmas and having to phone the nanny... Sad that she didn't learn from her own experience, but not surprising. It was also a pity that we don't get told her kids names.

Andylion · 26/11/2016 21:40

Did anyone else think that Paris was pregnant? I think she said she'd missed her period.

KatieScarlett · 26/11/2016 22:06

She did say that. Also the volcanic sex with Doyle Grin

VictoriaMcdade · 26/11/2016 23:27

I frickin'loved it. And cried a lot.

They could have done with a lot more townie stuff, although I worryingly also found grey haired Kirk rather attractive.

Bledel has improved massively as an actress. And I liked the nod to Bunheads with Sutton Foster in the musical number with the chap from Smash! I reckon getting two majorBroadway stars to sing about incest in Stars Hollow is pretty cool.

Could have done with less Taylor. And always always more Paris.

I am, and have always been, Team Jess. (Although I would fancy Logan much more, and Dean is now a very handsome man.)

I loved the rerun of the "you need money" conversation with Emily rather than Richard.

I reckon that they have taken a huge amount of notice of a lot of criticisms levelled at the show and addressed them.

I cannot WAIT to hear what the Gilmore Guys think. I normally listen to the podcast while I attempt to run. I reckon I will cover more miles than ever listening to Kevin and Demi's take on this.

Happy days!

Graphista · 26/11/2016 23:49

What's Gilmore guys?

Definitely team Jess, he loves Rory for who she REALLY is warts and all AND he calls her on her bullshit.

Logan while gorgeous (love Matt) would be a shit husband, likely absent, probably unfaithful, certainly not an engaged father.

Dean - too 'perfect' (leaving aside cheating on his first wife), not assertive enough, not intellectual enough Rory would have soon bored of him.

VictoriaMcdade · 27/11/2016 00:02

Gilmore Guys is a podcast. It started because some random 20 something chap tweeted that he wanted to start a podcast discussing Gilmore Guys and another bloke who had never watched it was up for it.

It sounds like a lousy idea, but the two of them live in LA, and sometimes give a fascinating i sight into the entertainment business in the US. They also have a great rapport, are occasionally idiotic, have massive gaps in their general knowledge which they cheerfully admit. They can be hilarious, and have managed to make you feel like you know them.

Anyway, the podcast started out with two dudes just chatting away and being listened to by their mates, but it got a couple of good reviews, and it has now been downloaded over 5million times, they've interviewed most of the cast, and they ended up as extras in AYITL.

It takes a while to get into, but then it'S addictive. I absolutely adore it. Grin

Graphista · 27/11/2016 00:19

Where do I find it?
