Further to the other GG thread, this thread is for discussion of the four feature-length episodes which will drop on Netflix on Friday 25 November.

The thread may contain spoilers both for the original seven series of GG AND for GG:AYITL.

Graphista I just found it on iTunes. And here:

Graphista · 27/11/2016 01:13

Excellent thanks

Dozer · 27/11/2016 08:52

Agree, much too much Taylor.

So was Logan now working for his father? Missed info on his job. Urgh at the cheating, both him and Rory and especially him.

Seen Summer now: fast forwarded much of the musical - great performers but wtf?! Like that there's now a pool and secret bar, and that Lorelei and Michel went for a drink together there and had a civilised and truthful conversation about him leaving.

Disappointing that Lane works at the antique store and has very little story.

RedYellowPinkandGreen · 27/11/2016 09:52

I watched it all yesterday. Kept falling asleep (never a good sign) so need to watch again. But I felt a bit flat at the end. Disappointing really.

Emily and Paris my favourite scenes. Also liked Kurt.

Rory was not at all likeable.

I am in love with Matt Czuchry but it was so confusing, I kept thinking he was Cary Agos.

Dozer · 27/11/2016 11:31

He plays smooth very well. The old Logan had some vulnerability and independence, he stood up for Rory with his father. He now seems very comfortable in the dynasty and happy to have a DP and OW on the go, although guess he was always a cheater before too.

Even living at home how can Rory afford to work for free at the local paper/write a book? Money from grandad? And who pays for the printing etc?

Am still team Jess. Not enough Jess in these. He is not like Luke IMO - he lives in a big city for a start.

dingdongdigeridoo · 27/11/2016 12:31

You say smooth, I say smarmy. Grin I always disliked Logan and Cary and have no idea why! He was one of the nicer characters on The Good Wife (also featured Francine from GG!), and I still couldn't stand him.

RedYellowPinkandGreen · 27/11/2016 12:41

I think you might be right - the charm does border on smarmy a little. I still love him. Although my first love remains Will/Josh Charles. Smile

Rory's finances made no sense.

KatherineMumsnet · 27/11/2016 13:06

I am unsure how I feel about it all tbh. It was lovely/really sad/nostalgic-but-possibly-not-in-a-good-way/all the things. I must digest and v.possibly re-watch. Not nearly enough Sookie for my liking!

TEAM JESS FOREVER

Did anyone spot Drella, the harp player from the first series as Miss Celine? I fear there will be no more episodes made and that ending is their idea of full-circle.

WhirlwindHugs · 27/11/2016 13:39

I must be the only one that enjoyed Taylor! I loved his rants, and the secret bar etc.

Logan is such a dick. I'm kind of sad it seems they're repeating Lorelai's single mum with super rich ex story with Rory. I want Rory to have her own stories, iykwim. I liked her doing the spec piece for GQ, more of that would have been fun.

Dozer · 27/11/2016 13:55

Ah, forever Will Gardner.......

I always disliked Cary too, a cold fish, although did like jail Cary.

Liked Francie's reaction to Paris' bathroom meltdown, something like: "I'm sorry, did I walk into 1992?"

Shame Tristan wasn't in it properly, presumably because they couldn't get Chad thingamyjig. Would like to know whether military school worked out! Plus he was a more interesting rich boy beau than Logan.

RedYellowPinkandGreen · 27/11/2016 14:51

I always disliked Cary too
Really?! Seems my judgement of men is as poor on telly as in RL!

I felt nostalgic at first. Then it all kind of rambled storyline wise and there were too many knowing jokes/lines - which i thought there would be, and was hoping for, it has been made for the fans after all - but I felt it slipped into almost being a parody of itself (not sure I mean parody but can't think of words). Smiled at itself a bit too much. I wanted some quality GG.

Lorelai's coffee line near the end was really clunky. I know it was meant to be but it grated a bit.

Oh dear, maybe I'm just grumpy and should watch again another time.

More coffee for me Smile

I quite liked the Taylor bits.

(Will Gardner💘)

CaptainHammer · 27/11/2016 15:07

Just finished it.
Andylion I agree with all 4 of your points!

I missed Richard, he was my favourite character, sad it wasn't revived while Ed was still alive.
Love Kelly Bishop and her scenes.

dingdongdigeridoo · 27/11/2016 16:15

Yeah the coffee bit was dumb. Sounded like a bad fanfiction.

Alex Borstein played Drella, Miss Celine, and a load of random voice overs on the show. She was the original Sookie in the pilot. Would have been weird if they'd gone with her.

Sar80 · 27/11/2016 16:23

Loved Emily and the tribute to Richard.
Hated the musical bit and the life and death brigade bit.Unrealistic. I thought Rory was having a dream at first.
Fall was my fave episode. I like to think that eventually Rory ends up with Jess. Wish we had more hep alien and Gil ha ha.

CraftyPenguin · 27/11/2016 16:35

I've just finished it. Quite disappointed. I thought Rory would have learnt from her past mistakes of sleeping with someone else's partner. I'm sad it seems like she'll be a single mum - who's the dad?! Logan I assume? I've been so excited about this, and I was so excited, happy and nostalgic when I first started watching Winter, but now it's over I just feel a bit deflated. Series 7 ended with Rory off to see the world, and it seemed like she'd go off and make something of herself, but it seems she's just destined to live in her mother's shadow.

DoYouRememberJustinBobby · 27/11/2016 17:29

Maybe being a single mum will be the making of Rory like it was for her mum (although much younger)? Because she is a pretty shitty person so far.

8814 · 27/11/2016 18:53

Re. Paris and Doyle's kids, I had the subtitles on and they were referred to as Gabriella and Timoteo Wink

Dozer · 27/11/2016 19:09
Grin
Dozer · 27/11/2016 19:09

Gil is a fab character, at ease with life and doing his own thing!

EverySongbirdSays · 27/11/2016 19:10

TIMOTEO Grin

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 27/11/2016 20:00

I quite liked the last episode, I'm not too bothered it was a cliff hanger, I got to see Luke and Lorelei married. Not enough Lane, Zack etc I don't think Rory is good enough for Jess. Grin

PaulAnkaTheDog · 27/11/2016 21:45

Berta was played by the same actress that plays Gipsy! Loved that!

whitershadeofpale · 27/11/2016 21:54

Alex Borstein is the voice of Lois in Family guy and is married to the actor who plays Jackson in real life.

Graphista · 27/11/2016 22:21

They're divorced. I love little bits of connections like that though.

dingdongdigeridoo · 27/11/2016 22:34

The main one is that Jess and Rory dated in real life. That's gotta be awkward!
