Further to the other GG thread, this thread is for discussion of the four feature-length episodes which will drop on Netflix on Friday 25 November.

The thread may contain spoilers both for the original seven series of GG AND for GG:AYITL.

Oh yeah, the step ladder bit was rediculous.

Whats the ladb bit?

And wtf is going on with emily and her housekeepers family.

I loved the DAR bullshit scene.

Yes. I am excessively hormonal.

FannyWincham · 05/12/2016 22:37

Clopy LADB = Life And Death Brigade.

GG always did odd 'bits' - kirks films, dream sequences, maybe I'm weird but I liked the ladb bit.

Yes, they did, but they were always broadly plausible as dreams, films etc. They've never made them part of the diegesis before.

Ladb - life and death brigade

Emily's maid and family - I took this as referring to Emily's previous habit of a new maid every week cos she's fired them for trivial reasons.

Then Richard is gone, she ends up with what most people would consider a nightmare maid (doesn't speak a language anyone can understand, can't take instructions, cooks what she likes, imposes her entire family on Emily...) yet Emily likes her and happily welcomes the maid and her family. Yes she's lonely but she's also tired of the bullshit! That includes searching for the 'perfect' maid.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 05/12/2016 22:42

I've forgotten the Letter too - what letter???

Graphista · 05/12/2016 22:48

Nasty letter Emily says lorelai wrote her but lorelai had no clue about and denies even writing. It came up in the counselling.

Must admit I did laugh at the bit where lorelai's on the phone going 'sure I'll meet your therapist mom' with Luke madly waving at her to stop ... Then after she gets off the phone the penny drops!

One of my favourite scenes is the one just after the DAR 40's dance at which Emily and Richard discovered the huntzbergers had indeed been shits to Rory (though I think Rory dropping out as a result was ridiculous! She wanted to be an intrepid hard nosed reporter and couldn't handle 2 instances of criticism? Hmm)

The dinner after that where ALL the years of unsaid things came out was FABULOUS!

Graphista · 05/12/2016 22:59

Found it

Oh yeah, the LADB was a massive cringe.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 06/12/2016 09:03

I didn't like the LADB at all this time. I loved 'you jump, I jump' from the original show. I wonder if having a bigger budget is why it went a bit odd. It was too much.

FannyWincham · 06/12/2016 09:12

Exactly. I don't think Netflix quite gave them a blank cheque and creative carte blanche but I imagine they had much more freedom than with a broadcast network. I'm not sure that this was a good thing.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 06/12/2016 09:29

I felt like I was watching a show, whereas with the original it felt like being a fly on the wall of a real place. Gawd I'm a sad case Xmas Grin

EternityNow · 06/12/2016 09:55

not a fan

Boynamedsue · 07/12/2016 20:06

Finding Kirk weirdly attractive which is very confusing Confused Can't really decide if I liked it or not! Emily and Paris amazing as always but the rest was a bit meh. Rory is awful. Jess is way too good for her.

Boynamedsue · 07/12/2016 20:50

Also (sorry) how did Luke and Lorelei never have a serious conversation about having kids? They'd have been late 30s/early 40s when they got together. It's a conversation you'd have!

Msqueen33 · 07/12/2016 21:08

Rory I did like in the original but found her quite stupid and entitled in this one. I also thought Sookie seemed odd. I thought Lorelei seemed really immature this time round. I enjoyed watching it but the characters hadn't developed much and it seemed all a bit about nothing really. Shame.

ClopySow · 07/12/2016 21:08

Oh god, i found myself confused by my attravtion to kirk too.

ClopySow · 07/12/2016 21:09

Attraction.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 08/12/2016 16:29

And Lorelai and Luke did talk about kids in original series. You'd think it would have come up again!!

MrsLouisTomlinson · 08/12/2016 16:42

Having lost my grandad this year many of the Richard bits were too close to home for me to enjoy properly (especially as my Grandma is SUCH an Emily!) but I really hope we see more GG. I was always team Logan and was so pleased to see him in the revival despite the circumstances. I always felt like he really loved Rory and she didn't want to tie herself down but he'd do anything for her.

EsmesBees · 08/12/2016 19:38

Well, except, it seems, leave his fiancée MrsLouis.

MrsLouisTomlinson · 08/12/2016 19:48

Well yes. I suppose there is that. But she didn't ask him too. I got the feeling that he would have done if he got the slightest inclination she was all in.

Which is only romantic in a rv show of course 😂

LoreleiGilmorethesecond · 09/12/2016 05:07

I loved it all, apart from that silly long winded musical. I watched it the day it was realised and still cringe at the thought of it.

I was glad her and Logan were still a thing but being the OW again...

Rory's voice was so different, and she wore a lot of baggy clothes which I found weird. Pregnant in RL?

The wedding was great, and I LOVED the Life and Death Brigade. I know they act all entitled etc but I think it's so sweet how they take care of Rory and treat her as one of the guys.

I guessed the ending when she spoke to her Dad, I imagine it would go completely full circle only Rory at the newspaper instead of the independence inn.

Has anyone heard any rumours of a permanent revival? I would love it!!

Graphista · 09/12/2016 11:38

Scott Paterson said in a live fb thing they're working toward hopefully more episodes. Matt czuchry said similar.

So maybe...Smile

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 09/12/2016 11:46

OoooohXmas Shock

qumquat · 09/12/2016 20:31

I really liked the Rory not doing very well storyline. I was a Rory, top marks at school, Cambridge etc and I've been an abject failure ever since so I really identified! My failure does not enable me to fly back and forth across the Atlantic on a whim while not having a job unfortunately. Aside from the money though I think she was a very believable early thirty something.

I hated the Life and Death Brigade. But then I hated them in the original as well. Entitled twats. It's interesting what a pp said about Rory being drawn to the life that Lorelai left. I'd never thought of it that way but it makes sense.

Emily was amazing and I loved all of the stuff between Emily and Lorelai.

AteRiri · 10/12/2016 20:57

Rory was amazing in season 1 and 2 of the original but she started going downhill. A Year In The Life's Rory is just an entitled brat.

Emily is brilliant.

And let us take a moment to thank Gilmore Girls for the amazing Paris Geller.

The boys became Hunk!!! Jess, Dean, and Logan. I think Luke looks older, but for someone almost 60, he looks good. Kirk looks a lot better now too.

Mrs Kim, Headmaster Charleston, and Lulu look the same. It's like the season 7 was just yesterday looking at them.
