Anyone else watching this madness?!

OP posts:
CurbsideProphet · 10/11/2016 22:27

I'm very dubious about the "matching process" that they have all taken so seriously. Were they not asked what characteristics/attributes they find attractive?!

The trainee counsellor Adam and Sara don't seem well matched - to me she did not look overly enamoured when she first saw him and even less so on honeymoon. He doesn't seem very good at reading body language or tone of voice, which is counselling 101.

Train manager Adam seems very easy going and likeable. Caroline has showed her sharper side when Adam didn't pre order breakfast. They could've just sat on the balcony and relaxed while they waited. Her reaction was perhaps a sign of what's to come.

Clark and Melissa seem very lovey dovey, but is it all just the endorphins from such a romantic experience?

I would like to know why Lucy and Steve were matched, as I felt like they just don't go together. On their wedding day he asked her about Game of Thrones, as he couldn't think of anything else to talk about. Maybe I'm projecting, but I just couldn't believe that he had NOTHING else to start a conversation about!

The80sweregreat · 11/11/2016 09:33

Steve seems hard work to me, I would imagine that lucie prefers someone much more outgoing and chatty. I felt a bit sorry for Adam the train manager, ok, so he forgot about breakfast, but men do forget things and I am sure he didn't do it on purpose! If she can get wound up that easily about that, I dread to think what she is like when its the big stuff! life is too short to have a tantrum over a bit of toast. Maybe that's just me though!

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 11/11/2016 09:43

I just keep thinking 'breathe Steve', he's so anxious, I really feel for him. I'm amazed he signed up at all. Those honeymoon destinations were the star of the show this week. Gorgeous.

FoofFighter · 11/11/2016 09:54

I've started watching the old US series too, very interesting!

Steve and Lucie, never in a million years, there's something with him, not sure what. Deeper than just being shy.

SirChenjin · 11/11/2016 10:07

Mental health problems as a result of losing his mum at a young age and seeing some horrible things as a soldier, I imagine. I think he seems like a really nice bloke - not 'hard work', just someone who has been through a lot.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 11/11/2016 11:04

Yes I was cringing when Lucie was asking him about Iraq and his mum, he looked so uncomfortable. It all seems a bit staged with them so far.

Rrross1ges · 11/11/2016 11:41

Yes I was cringing when Lucie was asking him about Iraq and his mum, he looked so uncomfortable

They've known each other for less than a week and she was expecting him to tell her stuff that he's buried deep and obviously feels very uncomfortable talking about. I think he'd be a real keeper if he could get over his nerves. I'm not sure about her though.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 11/11/2016 11:52

It was a conversation for off camera I thought. I'm still amazed at this whole concept, it's so interesting but again this week they haven't told us much about the matching process Hmm Maybe they just picked them out a hat Grin

BigSandyBalls2015 · 11/11/2016 12:20

Speaking to Adam like that, about something as trivial as breakfast, was eye opening - she's not a very nice person, yet he seems smitten. The poor bloke looked mortified, he should run.

DH said that is how I speak to him on occasion, but we've been together nearly 30 years Grin, not 3 days!

I've got a bit of a crush on Clark, but think he's a player. Quiet Steve is very likeable but needs to open up, not sure about Lucie, think she's disappointed in the match.

I like laddie Adam, but think he should have reigned it in a bit on his honeymoon, but maybe it's best he's himself.

EssentialHummus · 11/11/2016 12:48

Adam ("cross between David Brent and David Cameron" Grin) seems like a lovely, lovely bloke, and I'm worried she'll walk all over him. I'm also stroppy at times, but that level of reaction, so soon after meeting, over something so trivial... maybe the stress of the situation got to her.

The80sweregreat · 11/11/2016 14:56

Sorry, I didn't mean to 'diss' steve ( I do like him actually) but he must have realised that going onto a show like this and being chosen would involve opening up a bit. I suppose its hard as he doesn't know her at all and maybe doesn't want to say too much with the cameras about , but in that case the people running the tests in the first place should have mentioned that his new bride would be curious and want to ask questions! ( or shown him last years episodes!) It could also be editing , maybe he is more open off screen. Or he just isn't that keen on her.. who knows? still fascinating though - and they are all very brave.

MrsJamin · 11/11/2016 16:05

The real test of Adam and Caroline is how she copes with his ubergeekery, I mean his place was full of it! Not most women's idea of how you decorate. Lucie did seem to probe on very sensitive subjects, I'm not surprised he didn't want to talk about them. I'll be surprised if anyone makes it, really! Can't wait for the next episode.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/11/2016 16:34

I don't think she probed,I think it was a fair question and actually explained a lot of his behaviour. I thought she was very tactful and understanding.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/11/2016 16:39

I am still pretty shocked about the way Caroline spoke to David Cameron. Can you imagine if she was a bloke, we'd all be shouting LTB! Over something so trivial as ordering breakfast, it wasn't as if either of them had to go and forage for food up the mountain, it just required a phone call! Quite a worryng over reaction. To her credit she apologised.

MitzyLefrouf · 11/11/2016 16:41

I think Lucie was fine. Don't agree to marry a complete stranger on TV if you're a shy type who doesn't want to open up!

MitzyLefrouf · 11/11/2016 16:42

Agree re. Caroline. She acted like a total cow over the breakfast non-issue. It was as though she was trying to assert herself as the alpha in that relationship.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/11/2016 16:45

I imagine Lucie could be good to talk to wrt his mum especially as she has her own sense of liss wrt her mum.

I like her much more than their wedding episode.

MrsJamin · 11/11/2016 17:08

I guess. It's just weird she did it on camera- but then that's the point with them all, it's making them very vulnerable, the whole process. It's amazing how quickly they all got touchy feely with total strangers isn't it? Loads of social psychology going on.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/11/2016 17:12

The cameras would've been on practically the whole time just so they could edit enough for the episode. What we didn't see was the lead up to that conversation, he might've said "... When I lost my mum" and it's fair enough to then ask how he lost her.

MrsJamin · 11/11/2016 17:22

True. Perhaps considering they'd only known each other a few days, he wasn't ready to talk to her about it in more detail though.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 11/11/2016 18:37

I don't think it looks like any of them will make it... I get very confused between the two redhead! Next series they need to pick people who look different!

Mottled · 11/11/2016 18:55

Love this series but the matching process looks increasingly flawed.

Mel & Clarke - probably the best suited.

Adam & Caroline - She does not fancy him at all to my eyes. He is a nice bloke, maybe too nice and I can't imagine many women being happy with all the superhero tat in the house.

Adam & Sara - No spark, don't think they even like each other and have different goals and lifestyles and expectations from a relationship.

Lucie & Steve - Both looked disappointed with each other at the aisle. Not sure about this one as they are both hard to read, there is a chance that a relationship might develop. I find them the most interesting.

CurbsideProphet · 11/11/2016 19:07

I agree that Caroline seemed like she was trying to be the one "in charge". It was quite uncomfortable to watch, as she sounded very cold while he was trying to make light of it and not argue.

Dame yes it's highly likely that they have edited the conversation. I felt sorry for Lucy, as she seems keen for closeness, intimacy, and sharing, while Steve just seems very uncomfortable with her and the whole situation. He should have watched the first series to give him an indication of what he was getting into.

FoofFighter · 12/11/2016 15:18
