The Fall is back on RTE 1 in Sunday at 9.30
Jamie Dornan survives I think.
Looking forward to it.

Will Gillian Anderson still be wearing those lush silk blouses?
Anyone know where they are from?

I think we just have to suspend our disbelief at these things (lack of handcuffs etc). I know for a fact that if there was any hint of known violence or inappropriate behaviour towards women in a male hospital patient, there is no way a lone female nurse would be fussing treating him alone.

I think the hospital staff would treat him the same as anyone else actually. There might be a lot of gossiping in the staff room, but they're not going to show that I guess!

EmilyDickinson · 06/10/2016 22:32

I liked Stella's stairway speech to the female officer who killed Tyler (?) about her quick and decisive action saving lives and about the difficulty of being a woman in a patriarchal and paramilitary society. Stella makes a point of encouraging the women around her. Although she is portrayed as tough and fearless she also shows incredible empathy as well.

OlennasWimple · 06/10/2016 22:56

Surprised a journo hasn't managed to get into the hospital, actually, given how little there is to stop people wandering around...

OlennasWimple · 06/10/2016 22:58

Emily - I liked that speech too, and Stella's general helping other women climb the greasy pole too. She is one of the most well-rounded female characters in a major role that I can think of on TV right now. She isn't the classic female sympathetic person - you wouldn't seek her out for a shoulder to cry on, or send her to talk to children just because she is female, for example. But she isn't an ice-cold, hard-nosed bitch either

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/10/2016 23:03
  • Soooo slow
  • No way would nurse be in her own wth him after showing violence.
  • Stella's breathy voice is seriously pissing me off in this series.
  • Her body double in the pool was about 3 sizes bigger !
  • Why is everything so dark? Hospitals are never that dark. *Why did they operate in the dark?
Charley50 · 06/10/2016 23:26

I just cannot be dealing with Stella's voice. Does Gillian Anderson actually sound like that? So annoying. I find her so two dimensional. Does she never crack a joke? And she's alwAys getting changed. At least this episode it was only once but usually there's at least two scenes of her changing from one silk blouse to another. Who cares!
Also; so ridiculous that they have one tiny police officer outside the ward, that they are so very kind to Spector, and that the moment he regained consciousness they didn't restrain him in some way.
He is going to fake memory loss; that's why he only said he had a daughter, and as only she came to visit they can explore that more next episode.
And poor Rose Stagg. Of course she wanted to get the fuck out if there.. That ICU is the cellar in the horror film waiting to happen.

Cleebope · 06/10/2016 23:30

Yes Diazepam, I know someone really slim who was asked to body double for pool scene and she turned it down! Maybe they had to ask a slightly curvier model?.! Love this series so much, Jamie's dad, however, should stick t o his day job.

EverySongbirdSays · 07/10/2016 00:29

Fuck off Katie. That is all.

VashtaNerada · 07/10/2016 08:54

They're going to play out "is he faking his memory loss" all season I reckon, with Stella convinced he's faking but others believing him. FWIW I think it was genuine at first but his memory will come back and he'll deny it.
Agree it's nice to see her being so supportive of other women and interesting dynamic with another female in authority (when being interviewed).
Interesting comments about her voice, when she returned to X-Files she said how hard it was at first to re-find Scully's voice, and Scully does sound a bit Stella (albeit American!) in the first two episodes.

Brontebiscuits · 07/10/2016 10:26

I think you have it Vashta!

Brilliant series but find it really annoying how the son (Patrick?) is totally ignored! Totally off the point I know but I thought that in the other 2 series too! They should have just made Olivia an only child!

TheHiphopopotamus · 07/10/2016 13:45

Just got round to watching ep 2. It's still so slow it's actually painful, and agree with everyone else about that he wouldn't be left alone with the female nurse and no police presence.

I thought the bit where she was washing his hands interesting though, because that was kind of echoing what Spector did to his victims when he'd killed them.

Katie's an annoying eejit, isn't she. Only had one eye on the telly but I take it that it was acid she threw in her friends face?

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 07/10/2016 16:35

It was lemon juice, they showed her buying it earlier on. I'd say that was definite breaking of bail conditions and if she doesn't get recalled that will be a major plot hole.
And yes lots more journals in the lock up, I think they said that suggested more victims.
Can't wait for next week.

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 07/10/2016 16:36

And I think Gillian might actually be suffering from some kind of disorder with her vocal cords.

VashtaNerada · 07/10/2016 16:49

Agree about Spector's son. He was a key part of the first episode (where he speaks to Spector on the stairs) but has now pretty much vanished. Is the actor not available much maybe?

TheHiphopopotamus · 07/10/2016 17:07

Ah, right. Thanks room101

Wingedharpy · 07/10/2016 17:35

That has to be the quietest hospital in Europe!

EmilyDickinson · 07/10/2016 18:25

Oh good point about the washing TheHiphopopotamus!

OlennasWimple · 07/10/2016 20:25

I loved the interview scenes: it was Stella being interviewed by a Stella

Did Spector try to commit suicide by biting down on his tube??

Katie and her bloody nose ring can fuck off - I hope that she isn't a major part of the plot this season

There were nine journals, not sure how many sets of underwear in the suitcase: how many murders were there in the first two series that have been attributed to him?

Sally is annoying me now too - I know it's a bit of a shock, but she's so impassive. And wouldn't you have phoned the school and gone to see the head to discuss what is going on?

Why did Olivia need to phone Katie from a random staff only phone in the corridor? Surely she would have come across the article herself online?

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 07/10/2016 21:21

For those who've ever watched Homeland, Katie feels like she's going to be The Fall's Dana... And that's not a good thing.

TulipsInAJug · 07/10/2016 22:21

Katie's a great actress and her accent is one of the most authentic on the show... Shame her role is going nowhere, it lacks all credibility.

I agree Sally is annoying passive but I did find the most heart-wrenching scene the one where she sat and cried in the school principal's office.

Overall it's far too slow and boring really and I'm only watching because it's set in Belfast. I don't know if I can put myself through another series at this pace though. It's also so dark and creepy the whole time and that just feels tedious now. Maybe give it one more go.

atomicpanda · 07/10/2016 23:30

I think that Katie is building up to committing a serious crime. The lemon juice was practise.

Where are social services? Surely they would be involved with the children as they've been living with a serial killer.

Why didn't Spectre mention his son?
