Looks like we might see Murtagh again. Ronald D Moore has just done a q&a and let this slip...

Lassies of Lallybroch part 2.....SPOILERS
LonelyOversharer · 18/09/2017 09:23

First watch of ep2 done. Skived the school run so I could watch it in peace Blush

Beautifully done. Think we got away without the breastfeeding!!! Thing is, I want to binge watch it, I don't want to wait another week

Am sticking to my guess that Murtagh is at Ardsmuir and will take Innes' role.

Lessstressedhemum · 18/09/2017 11:01

I can't take the waiting Sad

I cried more this episode than the last one. Poor Jamie, he is wrapped in a cocoon of silence and misery. When he was crying with his eyes closed with Mary, the tears were dripping off my chin. Not a pretty sight. I know it's fictional, but he must have had to work really, really hard to try to hold onto even a little bit of himself. What a great job Sam is doing.

I could not have put up with all those awful 1940/50s men. The neighbour is horrendous and as for the men at the university Angry I would throw more than an ashtray at them! Thank goodness we appear to have got away without the creepy breastfeeding bit, I thought that they were quite brave showing Claire masturbating and then dictating the sex with Frank, it's not something you see very often. Also, Jamie was looking fine in her fantasies (hot flush emoticon).

madamefraser · 18/09/2017 13:14

Lessstressed me too sobbing tears rolling down face . They did all that beautifully...
I hope we see ❤️Murtugh again !

JuneFromBethesda · 18/09/2017 14:02

Hooray for Murtagh still being alive!!

Gosh your response to episode 2 makes me a bit nervous about what's to come lessstressed Sad

AngeloMysterioso · 18/09/2017 16:03

Loved Ep 2! I am starting to feel very sorry for Frank though. Poor bugger doesn't really stand a chance does he?

LonelyOversharer · 18/09/2017 17:32

I think Tobias is playing an absolute shit really very well!

It's like they've given him permission to cheat. Whereas in the books he's just a cheat. Will see how racist they make him. Agree about the 40/50's men, ugh. But then the women were conditioned to be little wifeys and to have no opinion.

LaurieFairyCake · 18/09/2017 18:03

Quick question - we've seen Clare and her daughter in the future - Clare doesn't know about the future does she? She only knows about the past?

Lessstressedhemum · 18/09/2017 18:06

Absolutely, in the books, he's just an adulterous, misogynistic, racist twunt. Tobias is playing him very sympathetically and they are writing him as much more of a victim than he actually is. Yes, it was hard for him, but then he is not a nice man.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 18/09/2017 18:22

Of course they had to make Frank sympathetic because firstly, why would there have been any dilemma about Clare going back to him in the first series and secondly, once she was back, why would she agree to getting back with Frank and not only that, staying with him.

It's easier to think of book and film as separate beasts. It was poor writing on Gabaldon's part to make Frank such a cliche (but no surprise there, really 🙄). I'm also pleased that it looks like they've tried to make Laoghaire more likeable (in S2) because otherwise WHY?! There are very few people in real life that are either hero or villain. Most people are a bit of both if you scratch the surface.

SeveredPixieBits · 18/09/2017 21:08

Ahhh, I've found my people!
I avoided this thread because I've only read to the end of Fiery Cross so far and I didn't want to see any spoilers, but I have no one to talk to about this IRL so I've cracked.
Was anyone else a bit disappointed with tonight's episode? Some bits of it were beautifully done, but I really felt like the whole sense of Jamie as a hermit, in the cave, was lost. It seemed like he was just popping in and out of Lallybroch all the time - no sense that he hadn't had any human contact for weeks and weeks at a time.
I agree that film-Frank is much more attractive than book-Frank. Tobias is a cracking actor, isn't he?
Verrrrry excited at the thought that Murtagh might appear, although I love Duncan and would be sad if he doesn't exist at all.
I can't believe we have to wait a whoel week for another look at Jamies bum installment.

gamerwidow · 18/09/2017 21:37

Yes not as good as last week. The individual performances were good and Jenny in particular was brilliant but something just didn't quite work. Maybe it was because the 6 years in exile were all a bit rushed.

gamerwidow · 18/09/2017 21:40

There wasn't the sense that he gave himself up because he could no longer bear the loneliness.

Dizzybintess · 18/09/2017 21:42

I M. Complete addict! I have watched ep 2 today and it was amazing x I wanted to cry with Sam when he was with the other woman.
I have started rewatching series 1 and I have watched 9 episodes in one day while doing my job from home xx

SeveredPixieBits · 18/09/2017 21:42

And I was cross that the whole "Leap o' the Cask" scene was completely meddled with.

SeveredPixieBits · 18/09/2017 21:44

Absolutely Gamer. He had nothing to lose because he wasn't really living at all.

Lessstressedhemum · 18/09/2017 21:44

A lot of Gabaldon 's characters are poorly written but, then, we don't read the books because they are works of great literature. He is a cliché amongst a world full of them. And, he gives us someone to focus our dislike on to deflect it from Claire, who is annoyingly selfish to say the least. I think Claire went back to him firstly because she promised Jamie that she would and, secondly, because of the stigma attached to being a single mum in the 40/50s. She would also have wanted stability for Brianna.

I agree it's better to treat the books and series as two separate entities. Saves too much disappointment when they differ. I thought Fergus was good this episode, wee soul.

Waytoogo · 18/09/2017 22:40

Just watched episode 2 and cried my eyes out - Jamie's tear when he kisses Mary, utterly heartbreaking and beautifully acted!

I found a LOT of Season 2 really tedious, so Season 3 so far is a pleasant surprise (as was the scene of Jamie's behind!). Can't wait for next week.

snozzlemaid · 18/09/2017 22:49

Just finished watching ep 2 as well.
Thought it was a fantastic episode. So much emotion. I lost count of the number of times I cried.
Really liked the scene with Mary in the cave. Jamie's pain was heartbreaking.
I'm going to try to only watch each episode once now and then have a big bingefest on them all when the season has ended.

DryWhiteagainW · 19/09/2017 07:48

Agree with everything said. Loved Fergus, looking forward to seeing grown up version. Cave scene was brilliant. Jenny w as great but seemed to have aged a bit too much in 6years. Very happy about Murtagh.

Lessstressedhemum · 19/09/2017 10:19

I was thinking that about Ian's hair, Dry. It seems to have gone very grey. Jenny, I expect, is worn down by having lots of kids quickly, and malnutrition was endemic in the Highlands in the aftermath of the rising. That coupled with the constant fear of the English and their constant roving about looking for folk to persecute would turn anyone's hair grey, so maybe that's what happened to Ian.

I thought Jamie's loneliness was shown quite well in the blanket of silence that surrounded him, that and the fact that they were always surprised when he turned up at Lallybroch. Poor Jamie, going from a mental prison to a physical oneSad

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 19/09/2017 10:53

I found a LOT of Season 2 really tedious

So did I. I've rewatched S1 loads of times and haven't bothered at all with S2, to the point where I'd been wondering if I'd fallen out of love with it. S3 is definitely reigniting my interest but we'll have to see how they handle the Geneva thing.

pixieg1rl · 19/09/2017 11:17

I'm annoyed that the Murtaugh stuff has been leaked (not on here, I saw it on twitter). I'd really like to watch something and get a genuine surprise.

The ageing in Lallybroch seems a bit selective, Jenny has no greys, Ian has quite a few, Rabbie NcNab has grown but Fergus hasn't much.

I like how they're playing Frank a little more sympathetically than in the books. It's being done to set up his later descent into bitterness I'm sure, but out of 2 of them he seems to be trying harder. I bet the twin beds were Claire's idea.

And great Jamie's bottom by the fire scene

DryWhiteagainW · 19/09/2017 20:38

Pixie Gergus looks ok to me, he's Taller than Jenny! In S2 was maybe 10ish, looks 16ish now. I love Fergus. So glad they used a real French actor....love his French/Scottish accent.

Silent Jamie is so sad. DH has been watching ish this season and annoyed me so much I had to tell him to get lost Grin. I explained that the attraction of Jamie is that he's normally such a lovely, garrulous, warm hearted man....he does broken v well....,..anyway from now on DH is banned from watching it Grin

DryWhiteagainW · 19/09/2017 20:42

And, although I'm desperate for them to get together again, I think J and C separate are heartbreaking and brilliantl
