I don't think Claire does find Frank repellent especially later. it's just she is never able to forget Jamie and no matter how good Frank is he is never going to be able to compete with an idealised memory.
I've never understood the Frank hate, Claire is the love of his life but he is ground down by the years of never having that love requited no matter how hard he tries.

DryWhiteagainW · 13/09/2017 20:23

Yes I thought France was silly.......the Voyager new world part has silliness potential too, hope the writers sort it.

Yes, I do feel a teeny bit sorry for Frank.........

snozzlemaid · 13/09/2017 21:20

Ha ha. Love that some of you have watched it 4 times already. I've got some serious catching up to do. I've only seen it twice so far.
I think it must be a bit of both for Claire. She must see BJR every time she looks at Frank.

LonelyOversharer · 13/09/2017 21:49

Frank in the series is so much nicer than Frank in the books though. He is a nasty piece of cheating work, but thats all told from Claires hindsight kind of flashback memory, the series is sort of being played out real time, so I guess they've written him in better. I was expecting the Boston bits to be excruciating please no Frank breastfeeding, but I just know they've put it in but they were really good.

I just want the next episode now, please.

Oh, I watched the facebook thing linked above today, totally hilarious!

Lessstressedhemum · 13/09/2017 23:03

TV frank is much nicer than book frank. They are playing him much more sympathetically. Yes, it must have been really, really hard for him, but he is an adulterous, misogynistic racist in the book, who can't cope with his wife being intelligent, driven and ambitious. He just wants a wee wifie.
I think that he married a very young woman who was swept away by a much older, charming, experienced man. When Claire came back from the war, she had grown up and a lot of the gloss had worn off. She was a different woman with a different outlook. She was even more changed when she came back from culloden. Frank was always going to struggle with that, even if she had been able to move on from Jamie.

DryWhiteagainW · 14/09/2017 06:45

Good point Less. Can understand why he would have cheated and hit the bottle TBH. DG can be a bit crass with some of the characters, with most she's fantastic though Roger,Jamie . See I knew this was an intellectual thread.........any one rewind the bit when Jamie gets pulled up at Culloden by Murtagh to get full knee shot? Grin

madamefraser · 14/09/2017 08:00

Very much so Drywhite ! We should be grateful for any knee shots as we're not not to get many more I presume due to lack of kilt wearing !

Lessstressedhemum · 14/09/2017 09:44

Oh, yes.

I have watched that bit many times. Don't suppose there will be any more because of the Act of Proscription. Sad
I can understand why Frank was unfaithful, but I feel that he holds Claire to a different standard than the one he holds for himself. I also think that it must have been really hard for her. Even without factoring in Jamie, she would not have been happy being a traditional 40/50s housewife. Her experiences in the war saw to that. So, the marriage was set up to fail, really.

snozzlemaid · 14/09/2017 12:48

That was a great knee shot.

DryWhiteagainW · 14/09/2017 20:38

But it has to be said he does look fabulous in trews.........

Trying not to watch it again......the thing is, when you've binge wayptched it (season 1 for me) it's hard only having one a week.

Anyone fancy watching SH in his new comedy fil? Much as I like him and rate him as an actor I'm not sure.

Do you think SH and CB have committed long term? I know S4 is all set yippee Roger but we could have at least 8.

And does anyone know when the next ! "Bees", book is due out?

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 14/09/2017 20:57

Anyone fancy watching SH in his new comedy fil

Not for me, although I'd like to see it for the other leads. I've come to the conclusion that SH does nowt for me when he isn't playing Jamie.

As for them making some more after the next season, I read on one of the gossip sites that Caitriona was fed up of doing it and is looking to leave as soon as she can (obviously that might be total BS and depends on how much money they get offered, I guess).

Lessstressedhemum · 15/09/2017 00:08

Bees book might be out next year but probably not until 2019. It's like waiting for a George R R Martin book! I think Sam and Kate have committed to 7 seasons, at least according to HH, because someone asked this earlier today.

I wish it was Monday, having to wait a week is killing me. I quite fancy Sam's film, or maybe it's just him I fancy.

eeyoredebbie · 15/09/2017 21:57

Are there any S3 spoilers in that marital relation YouTube clip? Prob shouldnt be on this thread but I've not read the third book yet and trying to remain unspoiled for season three.

JuneFromBethesda · 15/09/2017 22:19

It's taken me all week to find time to watch this undisturbed (bloody kids) but it hasn't disappointed. The bleakness of Jamie's existence immediately after Culloden was so convincing Sad

I don't want to jinx it but I think this has the potential to be the best series yet. There was a lot of nonsense in Season 2 (mostly the French scenes), and in Season 1 we were just getting to know all the characters, but now we know them and we've been through so much with them all already, it's going to be amazing seeing Jamie & Claire finally back together again. I have complete faith in the writers/directors to get it right.

I keep seeing that promo shot of them on either side of the stone ... sob

JuneFromBethesda · 15/09/2017 22:22

No spoilers that I can recall eeyore Smile

eeyoredebbie · 16/09/2017 10:52

Thanks June

AKAmyself · 16/09/2017 12:06

Hello lassies! Only two days to wait till next episode.
I love reading everything you say and found myself nodding very hard about everything. I think the key to this show is they have excellent writers and excellent actors and that's why this works so well when it's relationship-based rather than plot driven (also the plot is ridonkulous right from the time travel part lol). Season 2 definitely lost its way in France but I thought the ending was v strong (all together now: "gawd you gave me a rare woman!!!!!").

I think the strongest performance remains Tobias's - the source material is crap in this respect, but he is making frank real and vulnerable and therefore it is credible that Claire loves him despite him not being the love of her life, and stays with him and tries to rebuild something of a family. I hope they skip the horrible breastfeeding scene but do show us them regaining some level of intimacy.

Now for Jamie on his own in Scotland, I've said many times those for me where the best bits of the whole series, and despite having sighted a pretty horrendous fake beard bit the trailer I am really excited. Also - John Gray!.

One part I am not looking forward to is all the silliness on the boats - very much fear it will go the way of the French period :(

Lessstressedhemum · 16/09/2017 12:38

Oh, the boats! The whole jumping overboard with some crates to keep afloat. It's all so ridiculous.
Jamie, on his own, though, is heartbreaking. That's a major part of why Voyager is my favourite. He struggles so much, takes on so many identities, but none of them are his own really. He is such strong character. This should be Sam's season, he can really get his teeth into it, if they can escape the stupid beardGrin

AKAmyself · 16/09/2017 13:38

lessstressed exactly that!!! Voyager is where he really becomes a man. He suffers lots, he sacrifices almost every thing, he has to dig really really deep into himself to hang on to his dignity and humanity. I might reread that section actually

DryWhiteagainW · 16/09/2017 16:58

Gosh I love this thread, thank god you're all back!

Had to have a few days off, and a lie down in a darkened room after near nervous breakdown at Courtney's comment about CB being a bit sick of playing Claire and possibly not doing further than S4 Shock....thanks Less I feel ok now Grin
Aka totally agree about Voyager and Lord John. Love the actor. He did an excellent job inA Pkace to Call Home and utterly gorgeous to boot. Ardsmuir and Helwater should be good.

I want to meet grown up Willie and Young Ian love his story.
I hope they leave out grizzly and unnecessary medical procedures syringe in Jocasta's eye, graphic epesiotamy to random woman and agree about jumping overboard!

pixieg1rl · 17/09/2017 13:42

I haven't had time to check in on the thread in detail, but can I check that the episodes go live on Amazon on the early hours of Monday rather than being there on a Sunday night?

FridgeCut · 17/09/2017 14:04

Yes, 5am Monday last week AFAIR.

pixieg1rl · 17/09/2017 14:16

Shame. I like having Outlander on a Sunday night. Having to make it through Monday is a PITA, and muting the hashtags on twitter

Lessstressedhemum · 17/09/2017 14:53

I wish it was Monday morning. I can't wait.

DryWhiteagainW · 17/09/2017 20:24

Agree, Sunday night so much better. I'm looking forward to it too.

I'm shocked at how long DG takes to write her books......mind you they're huge
