was that a zipline on her dress last night? zippers weren't patented till about 10 years after she married Albert. hmmm. pedantic moment.

I like Albert, the more I learn about him the more I think hes the only decent royal ever. and Vic had her good moments too, sticking up for Albert and wanting to include him in things.

whats with miss watsit the maid? I missed the 1st few episodes. is the child hers or her cousins? (want to concentrate on the royal couple but this, I assume fictio,n bit intrigues me). is the chef creepy or genuinely in love with her?

ButteredToastAndStrawberryJam · 26/09/2016 18:14

I had a feeling it was the maids child but I could be wrong.
I agree, the chef does seem a bit creepy but we'll see, he wants a wife and likes her, he said he wants someone by his side when he starts up his own business.

raisedbyguineapigs · 26/09/2016 18:48

I was wondering whether the child was the maids. He does seem a bit creepy. It's such an obvious ' oh look we tricked you into thinking he's dodgy but he's not!' trope.

Clawdy · 26/09/2016 19:11

The trouble is the "downstairs " scenes are so boring. Can't remember any names, and don't really care about any of them. It's certainly not Downton.

FoxesOnSocks · 26/09/2016 20:02

I wondered why they chose Nancy as her ; given the time setting its all very Oliver Twist.

I actually like the bit downstairs, though I'm a sucker for a servant or pauper story!

raisedbyguineapigs · 26/09/2016 20:41

I'm finding the downstairs bit a bit dull and disjointed. It's like they haven't got the confidence to do a proper bit of social commentary so they have just shoehorned in some servants and alluded to some 'issues of the day'

QueenSpartacusOfTheAndals · 26/09/2016 21:16

The chef is Ben Kingsley's son!

QueenSpartacusOfTheAndals · 26/09/2016 21:17

And Miss Skerett is Laoghaire from Outlander!

raisedbyguineapigs · 26/09/2016 22:08

Oh yes! I can see it now! Take away the fake handlebar moustache and you can see it Smile

QueenSpartacusOfTheAndals · 26/09/2016 22:22

Here he is with his dad.

Yet another actor with a famous parent. So many of them.

Bestthingever · 26/09/2016 23:07

Can't believe he's Ben Kingsley's son. He's lovely Wink

ButteredToastAndStrawberryJam · 27/09/2016 07:21

Ernest has been sent home :(

" I always think Princess Anne looks very like Victoria"

I've always thought Beatrice.

In The Young Victoria she has her hair up in that fashion & is just how I imagine Victoria.

raisedbyguineapigs · 28/09/2016 11:11

Beatrice does look a lot like Victoria.

Clawdy · 29/09/2016 22:57

Beatrice's distinctive eyes are nothing like Victoria 's.

DiegeticMuch · 29/09/2016 23:47

I agree re Beatrice - she looks Hanoverian.

The downstairs scenes are hit-and-miss. Not sure about Barrow-lite. Eve Myles is underused.

raisedbyguineapigs · 30/09/2016 17:27

Princess Charlotte looks the image of Queen Liz too! Who'd have thought it Grin

raisedbyguineapigs · 02/10/2016 21:54

I dont quite understand the moaning about Albert being German? Surely it was about 100 years too late to be worrying about the Royal Family being 'too German'?

FoxesOnSocks · 03/10/2016 07:22

That was mentioned last night wasn't it 'we already are' in response to the giving out about Albert being German.

Did the Victoria and the train thing happen? (Her turning up I mean and getting on)

raisedbyguineapigs · 03/10/2016 11:29

I interpreted that as insinuating that Victoria was being overly influenced by Albert, but it could have been that the Royal Family are essentially German already!

BeckerLleytonNever · 03/10/2016 16:29

Im trying to enjoy it without getting pedantic about historical inaccuracies!

In Victorian times no one in polite society mentioned the word 'trousers', they were called 'the southern neccessity'', yet not only did Eve Myles character saytrousers but Vics maid called her a something pants!

Alberts turning from Ron Mael into looking like Charlie Chaplin!

BEn Kingleys son. he looks like a good looking version of his dad.

Liking Robert Peel, when he called the tories barnyard animals with the noise they were making.! someone should say at the the next PMQs!

raisedbyguineapigs · 03/10/2016 16:51

I'm quite liking looking up the proper history bits afterwards. I quite like food history, so I'm thinking of looking up the origins of the Ice Cream Bombe. I think I may find that it wasn't invented by a maid in Queen Victoria's household, but it might have been invented by a chef Grin

diddl · 03/10/2016 19:50

I'm confused.

I thought that V&A already had a child!
