Although I'm old enough to remember it first time round, I've just ploughed my way through all five series on sky box sets. I'd forgotten how good it was, I'm looking forward to watching the new series when it starts again in the autumn.

I found the ages of the children confusing. It was 20 years since CF started and Adam was born in the first episode. So why is he still a teenager in school uniform.

CF finished in 2003, 13 years ago, so Matthew should only be 13 but he is 15, and they said it was 14 years since Rachel died.

Am I overthinking this?!

Maybe it's not meant to be real time and just 16 years on?

So glad Helen Baxendale isn't in it anymore, she pretty much used to ruin it for me, I agree she's a terrible actress.
This series has started ok, hoping its winner as there's not much on worth watching at the moment!

The young man playing Matthew looks like a very young Jack Davenport.

Matthew is played by Cel Spelman, a CBBC presenter.

I think the casting of Matthew was superb, he really does look like a DS of Helen Baxendale!

I wondered if he would now move in with Karen, she seems to be his surrogate DM and he went straight to her when he needed support. if-not he can come here and i will be his surrogate mum!!

Matthew was born in 2001 in series 4 whilst they were in Australia at Pete & Jo's wedding. I only know this as I recently binge watched them & Matthew's details were on is incubator over invested

As for Adam I thought CF started 98/99 so he could be in higher education that still requires a uniform?!

If he was born in 2001 he could be like my son and only just 15 and in year 11 so would definitely be in uniform still.

I'm surprised so many people have commented on how much they've aged, as they've all been on TV fairly frequently over the last 13 years. In fact David looked years younger than his appearance in Downton when he didn't marry Lady Edith.

I almost didn't watch it in case it was a disappointment. So glad I did, I really enjoyed it. Although I find myself still wanting to punch David in the throat.
