I'd help Selasi with his piping bag any day.....Blush

ClockworkNightingale · 01/09/2016 16:44

Okay, I know this has been run into the ground, and Tom clearly just has one of those faces . . . but surely he looks just like Justin Trudeau? It can't just be me. Confused

StopLaughingDrRoss · 01/09/2016 16:44

Me too - happily watch him piping for an hour as well!

Davros · 01/09/2016 19:36

I'm not keen on Selasi, he comes across as grumpy. My faves are Candice, Rav and Ginger Boy (Tom?). Not saying one of them is going to win but I like them

Lookdownthesofa · 01/09/2016 20:12

Did everyone miss Paul saying to Val "your sister tastes lovely" Shock Grin

absolutelynotfabulous · 01/09/2016 20:20

Wasn't Val's sister a character in her gingerbread concoction?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 01/09/2016 20:39

Yep, beheaded by Paul. RIP Susan Sad

To a PP who asked how they pick the contestants:

I have a family member who applied, who is a great baker. Has done wedding cakes for friends etc etc. There was a massive application form, she had to give examples of lots if different things she'd baked for different occasions, in different categories (bread, pastry, cake, biscuits etc) as well as lots of more personal questions. Lots of photos also required.

Anyway, she never heard back. Which, given the low-seeming standard this year, seems a bit unfair! Though if course all the bakes she sent photos off weren't done under stress or time pressure so it's not really fair to compare.

I think Paul is off when he says "these are the 12 best amateur bakers in the country" because not all applicants are even seen or tasted. There is obviously a massive initial screening process based on profiling or wanting people with interesting back stories or certain profiles.

absolutelynotfabulous · 01/09/2016 21:21

mixety I think it's a bit rough that your relative didn't hear back. Just a thought-did she have to submit a photo of herself?

iklboo · 01/09/2016 22:21

Gah! I had Louise in the work's sweepstake. Now I have to bake something to take in. Thankfully NOT a showstopper. I had an idea she'd be out early when they barely spoke to or about her.

mixety · 01/09/2016 22:22

Yes, as well as photos of her bakes she had to include a recent photo of herself. She is far from hideous looking though!

5Foot5 · 01/09/2016 23:07

iklboo What a wonderful idea for a sweepstake!! Mind you there is only 7 people where I work and only 3 of us admit to watching GBBO so it would be a bit hard to arrange.

5Foot5 · 01/09/2016 23:12

Oh Val. I quite like her but bless her she really does remind me of granny pottering around the kitchen, getting distracted and finally producing dinner around 2 hours late having of course completely refused any help because she is used to being queen of her kitchen.

Oh God yes! I do like Val but you are so right, though with me it was my DM. She would be up dead early on Sunday to put the joint on for lunch and then spend all morning pottering around in a totally disorganized way preparing. If I offered to help I would be given the odd job here or there but nothing that could really hasten the process. Lunch would always be at least an hour later than advertised

JudyCoolibar · 01/09/2016 23:32

I liked Selasi for the way he helped Val when she was having a disaster with the second bake.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/09/2016 18:18

I like how you had to clarify which disastrous bake Selasi helped Val with Judy, seeing as practically all her bakes have been disaster-ridden!

absolutelynotfabulous · 02/09/2016 19:01

Val HAS to go next week, surely?

Raahh · 03/09/2016 13:17

catching up with Extra slice... I love Josh Widdiecombe , and Steph is very funny.

Her pronouncement that the purple yam and coconut Viennese whirls were 'minging' was great.

Louise looked much better with her hair down. And she made her ginger bread church again. All in one piece Grin.

yes Louise looked lovely on it, and her church scene was much better than her first attempt!

iklboo · 03/09/2016 15:35

I'm making coconut & strawberry flapjacks, toffee fudge flapjacks & peanut butter cookies. If any actually make it into work on Monday it will be a miracle.

SoupDragon · 07/09/2016 19:58

Bread week. Not my favourite week.

StopLaughingDrRoss · 07/09/2016 20:02

See - I like it. .. really challenging and separates them a bit!

fourquenelles · 07/09/2016 20:02

Settling in for bread week
